Yes, now that I think about it, you are right. No Fall of Constantinople would probably mean no Renaissance, but as Oscal said, nothing is perfect, and certain paradoxes are allowed.

I thought you were still rolling through dealing with Trammel, and isn't such an attack very dangerous to yourself than anybody else you still have traitors roaming around, this could be your own Manzikert

Honestly though I think we should make a big mega timeline of where we diverge from RL and then try and join the dots up so we have something coherent, if nothing else it would be fun!

I probably still have some traitors, but I can't just keep my troops on the border forever. Sometimes, in order to win, you have to take a risk.

Still, I am facing pirates. On land. The Invasion isn't dangerous to me, since in the case of an defeat, the troops will just fall back to the fortified border. The forces implicated aren't large enough for this to be a Manzikert, and luckily, I'm not on the danger of losing Asia Minor any time soon.

If the pirates will defeat six legions, winning three battles, one with each group, I should just abandon the idea of an Invasion. But that won't happen. I have a small secret weapon, of course.

I have been doing some analysis over the week, and I do not believe that I am going to be able to continue the activity. This week was an example of this: I am mentally incapable of reading (#see.Novacom XDDDDDDD) everyone's posts. It isn't really everyone else as much as I cannot find the time to spend 1~2 hours a day for the activity that I need to maintain this RP.

Helghan gave me a good idea, though: why don't we stop here, and when I have the ability to, bring back up "1855 - Alternative Divergence" ? If everyone are willing, we could continue off here as SOON as everyone else is free ^^
