But to play devil's advocate, when the Church of England was established, it led to long-term religious violence. England kept flipping between Protestantism and Catholicism, and the Puritans and Presbyterians both tried to seize power. Then as a grand finale, England had a civil war between 1642 and 1651. In short, English history is littered with massacres.
So I guess Russia can RP its religion as homogeneous or chaotic, if he/she wants to.
The ROC, or the Patriarchate of the Russians and all Eastern Slavs, isn't headed by a foreigner. It's just that overall, the Russian Patriarch is subordinated to the Ecumenical Patriarch, a situation that exists ever since 1453.
