The Portuguese government denies all allegations involved with the possible annexation of the country of Guinea. Portugal authorized the operation to overthrow the dictator in charge of the country. Not only has the dictator shown complete neglect for his people. We have never expressed interest in annexing Guinea, and we will pull out once a democratic system is in place. When the war with the corrupt Guinean government is over, we will unite Portuguese Guinea, and Guinea. To form the Republic of Guinea. An independent nation under Portuguese protection.
Guinea Campaign, March 6th
The Portuguese forces were now joined by Guinean dissident fighters in the area. They were inspired by the fact that the Portuguese promised their country democracy, and the Portuguese also promised to overthrow the dictator of Guinea. Pretty soon the Portuguese started getting massive support from the civilians who started actively sabotaging the already weak Guinean army logistic network. The Portuguese continued their lightning fast advance through Guinea. The ethnic Portuguese forces however have started withdrawing, and they are being replaced by ethnic Guinean forces. The Portuguese continued their assault at a rapid pace. Demanding capitulation from the Guinean government.

While our respective nations may not get along too well, I believe we have common enemy in Portugal. I would like to propose a full blockade of the Portuguese mainland. I will be supplying Guinea with weapons and training, so that they may repulse the Portuguese imperialists. I hope you will see the logic in this proposal.

Guinea:
The Italian Air Force has begun to air drop supplies to the Guinean Armed Forces, to help them resist the Portuguese Empire. Italian generals have also begun to train Guinean troops on how to beat back the Portuguese. Italy has stated that if Portugal does not pull out of Morocco and Guinea, Italy will blockade Portugal, and possibly declare war.

Unknown Location, Sicily:
Sitting on a tall platform on the test site was Italy's first atomic bomb, ready to be tested. The button was clicked, and everyone braced for the explosion. After 5 minutes, nothing happened. The scientists got up, wondering what went wrong. Then, the bomb exploded, vaporizing the platform and turning the ground to glass and ash. The wind created by the explosion rushed towards the scientists, safe behind reinforced glass. The scientists stood stunned for a moment, before cheering and whooping. Italy had entered the Nuclear Arms Race.

Celebrations are currently going on all over the country for the recent liberation of Murcia. Families that have been separated for years are finally being reunited as the Spanish Army replace the South African Guard at the "border". But even in these happy times work need to be done. After 24 hours of Murcia being in Spanish control a new security measure has been put in place called the "Murcia Protocol".

February 10th, 1960, The British Crown Colony of Hong Kong

The British local government in Hong Kong had become increasingly distressed by the increasing aggression by The People's Republic of China towards Hong Kong and the whole of The British Commonwealth. Due to repeated communiques from China to Britain, threatwning Britain to give up Hong Kong: the British had become concerned that China would attempt to invade Hong Kong.

Governor of Hong Kong, Robert Black sent a request to Her Majesty's Government that Hong Kong receive additional naval, air and ground military support in order to curb any Chinese aggression against Hong Kong.

Within the day, the British government responded; authorising the immediate stationing of an additional 25,000 troops, along with an aircraft carrier and numerous frigates, destroyers corvettes and other ships, as well as some fighter jets and bombers.

Before these reinforcements could arrive, British naval fleets were stationed to defend Hong Kong and block the entry of all Chinese vessels into British territorial waters.

One Week Later

The military reinforcements had arrived from across The Commonwealth to defend Hong Kong. The naval vessels formed a "wall" around Hong Kong, and commercial vessels had to go through naval checkpoints to reach Hong Kong. Fighter jets flew overhead, often very close to the border with China; in order to show the strength of Britain.

Hopefully these measures, although costly: would be enough to curb the expansionist tendencies of the illegitimate government in China.

[The Peoples East Africa]

On the South African-Swaziland border, troops were gathered for an invasion. Swaziland for years had being ruled by an absolute monarchy, and it was time the country was liberated. Tanks, artillery, and several thousand soldiers were silently moved near the border. Warplanes were fuelled and ready to go at nearby military runways.

At 9.00 a.m., on March 6th, the invasion began. Bomber planes, escorted by the Bf-109s Portugal had provided, crossed the border and began bombing several places. Major cities and military outposts were the main targets. Once they had softened up the enemy, Panzer tanks rolled in, followed by infantry. The city of Big Bend fell within minutes. It seemed like the population abandoned the city, and ran inland. Nhlangano, one of the biggest cities in the country, was a major target. It took several hours of fighting, and a few destroyed tanks, but eventually the city fell.

The most celebrated conquest of the day, was the small city of Ngwenya. This city was just under 8 miles from the capital city of Mbabane. Artillery was set up here, and begin shelling the city. It's estimated that the city, and country, will fall in less than 1 week.


After surrendering Murcia to Fascist Spain, the few troops in the area were put on boats and shipped out. They weren't returning to South Africa however. They were being dropped off instead in the new province of African Sahara. Here they were to assist in setting up the government, and deterring any possible invasion. Invasion was unlikely though, as Portugal was seizing a lot of land in the area.

Today, after negotiations that stretched for weeks on end: the British and Portuguese governments have agreed to give Macau to Britain in exchange for British Guinea joining Portuguese Guinea. With this historic agreement, the Portuguese will pay the British an additional $100,000,000 for Portuguese Guinea. Britain shall administer Macau with Hong Kong, and the government has assured that Macau's distinct culture shall be preserved under British rule. This agreemenr was signed by Her Majesty Queen Elizaberh II, Antonio Salazar and Macau's governor Jaime Silverio Marques.

This newly-signed agreement shall go into effect on the 1st of May 1960, and British and Portuguese colonial officials are vacating British Guinea and Macau, respectively, as we speak.

The Portuguese government has ordered that all military personnel stay within Macau for a multitude of reasons. Mainly due to the fact that there is a blockade outside of the colony, and that it would be impossible to get out. The 5000 Portuguese personnel were reminded of their victory over the Dutch invaders under much worse than they are currently. The Portuguese garrison now is stuck in Macau due to the Chinese blockade.
Continental Portugal
The Portuguese distrustful of the new Spanish buildup near the border has deployed their best units including the 3 divisions who were recently used in Morocco. The Portuguese also ordered that the tank destroyers be deployed along the border, and the Portuguese also started establishing a defensive line. The air force is put on high alert, and warned about any possible Spanish aggression towards the Portuguese mainland. The Portuguese Iberia class aircraft carriers became concentrated along the north of Portugal, and the south where the strait of Gibraltar is. The Portuguese ordered more Tempestade tanks to be produced, and given to the army alongwith the fixed Vento-Divino jet fighter to combat the growing Spanish presence in the area. The Portuguese have threatened that any attack on the Portuguese mainland will be retaliated.
Guinea Campaign, March 10th
The lightning speed of the Portuguese troops have culminated in the siege of Conarkry, and the capture of most of Guinea's coastline. The Portuguese navy however was withdrawn to the mainland to defend against possible invasion, and blockade that was threatened by the Italians. The remainder of the Guinea task forces was redeployed near the strait of Gibraltar to defend Portugal against Italian blockades. 3 of the 5 Iberia class aircraft carriers were deployed there, and airbases were quickly built in Morocco. Artillery is also deployed to the south pillar of Hercules, no hostile ship can possibly pass the Portuguese deployment of forces. The Portuguese had orders to fire upon any ships that were flying the Italian flag, and appeared to be of hostile intention.

Guinea Campaign
The Portuguese troops continue their rapid advance through the country of Guinea. The Portuguese army has ordered the advance into the interior. An ethnic Guinean citizen of Portugal has also been appointed the governor of Portuguese Guinea in light of his contributions in the invasion of Guinea. To seize Conakry the Portuguese used a ruse to draw the Guineans into battle. The Portuguese put a deceptively weak force into the area. They were ordered to put on tater red uniforms and appear in a system of disorganization. While in reality they were some of the best trained and armed troops that the empire can muster. To further the appearance of a weak unit the Portuguese made sure that the unit also was made up of Africans only. The Guinean army overconfident of their ability to defeat the Portuguese force launched an attack with the main body of their army to try to defeat the Portuguese force and raise the poor morale of the Guinean army.
The Guineans attacked head on to the in reality well prepared Portuguese positions. The Guineans came in waves trying to dislodge the Portuguese from their stronghold. However, every assault was repulsed with massive casualties inflicted to the Guinean army. The Guinean army tried to seize the Portuguese stronghold 10 times in a single day. However, each assault was repulsed with hundreds of casualties inflicted on the Guinean army at the end, for a minimal amount of Portuguese losses. The Portuguese forces had orders then to take the city of Conakry from the Guineans. The invasion was joined by the Guinean opposition who were eager to overthrow the dictator. The Portuguese forces with support from their Guinean opposition later launched an assault on the battered bulk of the Guinean army. The Portuguese entered the city on March 15th, giving the Portuguese complete access to the Guinean coast. The Portuguese than ordered complete capitulation of the Guinean government, and absorption into Portuguese Guinea.

Formation of the Flechas(deviation from IRL)
Due to growing concern of a revolt from the colonies the Portuguese decided the best thing to do was to form a specialized counterinsurgency group made of the best of the best. The troops received very good pay comparable to the high ranking white collar worker. Anybody may join the Flechas no matter of race, or background, and they were drafted from all around the empire(expect Macau for obvious reasons). The training was on the toughest in the world. When volunteers arrived at Sao Fome, the Flecha's training camp, on an isolated island of the Azores they were given a taste of the hardships they would have to endure. On reaching the base (which was a 25-kilometre run away from the drop-off point) they saw only a few straw huts and the blackened embers of a dying fire. There was no food issued. The objective of the training at this point was to narrow the list of potential recruits by starving, exhausting and antagonizing them.
The selection course had a total duration of 17 days. From dawn to 7 am, recruits were put through a strength-sapping fitness programme. After they had completed this, they trained in basic combat skills. They were also required to traverse a particularly nasty assault course several times in the course of the training program. The course was designed to overcome their fear of heights. When darkness fell, they began night training. In the first five days of the course, no food was issued, while for the rest of the period only rotten animals were allowed. At the end of training, they had to carry out an endurance march of 100 kilometres. Each volunteer was laden with 30 kilograms of rocks in his packs. These rocks were painted red, to ensure that they could not be discharged and replaced at the end.
The final stage of this march was a speed march, and had to be completed in two-and-a-half hours. For those who survived these days there was a week of leave; they were then taken to a special camp for the dark phase of their training. At this camp, they learned to act and talk like the enemy. The base was built and set out as a genuine rebel camp, and the instructors were on hand to turn the recruits into fully-fledged members of the enemy groups. In this phase recruits were taught to break with habits such as shaving, rising at regular times, smoking and drinking and to adopt a guerrilla lifestyle. The recruits were in the field on patrol with the Flecha only a week after the completion of their training.

He was not sure what to expect, as although Khrushchev had accepted his reforms, the people of Hungary would not want any agreements that could threaten their new liberties.

3rd of February 1960, South African Parliament, Cape Town, South Africa

British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan had gone on a weeklong tour of Commonwealth colonies and realms of Africa. From Lagos in Nigeria, to Ghana, to Salisbury in Southern Rhodesia, to Johannesburg, Durban, and finally Cape Town in South Africa. To conclude his trip, he was scheduled to make a speech at The South African Parliament. South Africa was a shining example of how independence could turn out for independent African nations, of which there were few (Ghana, South Africa, Algeria, Ethiopia, Zaire, Congo, etc.)

MacMillan was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Malan shortly after his speech. Malan requested to read a copy of hia speech prior to MacMillan reading it, instead MacMillan gave him a brief synopsis of the speech:

"Nothing much. My speech will just affirm the close bond between South Africa and Britain."

But Harold MacMillan had lied. The speech was much more than that. Aside from the crowd of MPs gathered in Parliament to hear MacMillan's speech, large crowds of thousands of South Africans- Whites, Blacks, Coloureds and Asians had gathered to hear the speech. Black South African nationalist groups such as The African National Congress (ANC) were in attendance. Even a young important ANC member named Nelson Mandela was in the audience.

As MacMillan stepped up to the podium, he was visibly nervous. He was afraid to say what he was about to say, but he knew that he had to say it. It had to be done. The will of the peoples of Africa needed to be respected and listened to.

So, Harold thus began his historic speech:

It is, as I have said, a special privilege for me to be here in 1960 when you are celebrating what I might call the golden wedding of the Union. At such a time it is natural and right that you should pause to take stock of your position, to look back at what you have achieved, to look forward to what lies ahead. In the fifty years of their nationhood the people of South Africa have built a strong economy founded upon a healthy agriculture and thriving and resilient industries.

No one could fail to be impressed with the immense material progress which has been achieved. That all this has been accomplished in so short a time is a striking testimony to the skill, energy and initiative of your people. We in Britain are proud of the contribution we have made to this remarkable achievement. Much of it has been financed by British capital.

As I've travelled around the Union I have found everywhere, as I expected, a deep preoccupation with what is happening in the rest of the African continent. I understand and sympathise with your interests in these events and your anxiety about them.

Ever since the break up of the Roman empire one of the constant facts of political life in Europe has been the emergence of independent nations. They have come into existence over the centuries in different forms, different kinds of government, but all have been inspired by a deep, keen feeling of nationalism, which has grown as the nations have grown.

In the twentieth century, and especially since the end of the war, the processes which gave birth to the nation states of Europe have been repeated all over the world. We have seen the awakening of national consciousness in peoples who have for centuries lived in dependence upon some other power. Fifteen years ago this movement spread through Asia. Many countries there, of different races and civilisations, pressed their claim to an independent national life.

Today the same thing is happening in Africa, and the most striking of all the impressions I have formed since I left London a month ago is of the strength of this African national consciousness. In different places it takes different forms, but it is happening everywhere.

The wind of change is blowing through this continent, and whether we like it or not, this growth of national consciousness is a political fact. We must all accept it as a fact, and our national policies must take account of it.

Well you understand this better than anyone, you are sprung from Europe, the home of nationalism, here in Africa you have yourselves created a free nation. A new nation. Indeed in the history of our times yours will be recorded as the first of the African nationalists. This tide of national consciousness which is now rising in Africa, is a fact, for which both you and we, and the other nations of the western world are ultimately responsible.

For its causes are to be found in the achievements of western civilisation, in the pushing forwards of the frontiers of knowledge, the applying of science to the service of human needs, in the expanding of food production, in the speeding and multiplying of the means of communication, and perhaps above all and more than anything else in the spread of education.

As I have said, the growth of national consciousness in Africa is a political fact, and we must accept it as such. That means, I would judge, that we've got to come to terms with it. I sincerely believe that if we cannot do so we may imperil the precarious balance between the East and West on which the peace of the world depends.

The world today is divided into three main groups. First there are what we call the Western Powers. You in South Africa and we in Britain belong to this group, together with our friends and allies in other parts of the Commonwealth. In the United States of America and in Europe we call it the Free World. Secondly there are the Communists – Russia and her satellites in Europe and China whose population will rise by the end of the next ten years to the staggering total of 800 million. Thirdly, there are those parts of the world whose people are at present uncommitted either to Communism or to our Western ideas. In this context we think first of Asia and then of Africa.

As I see it the great issue in this second half of the twentieth century is whether the uncommitted peoples of Asia and Africa will swing to the East or to the West. Will they be drawn into the Communist camp? Or will the great experiments in self-government that are now being made in Asia and Africa, especially within the Commonwealth, prove so successful, and by their example so compelling, that the balance will come down in favour of freedom and order and justice? The struggle is joined, and it is a struggle for the minds of men. What is now on trial is much more than our military strength or our diplomatic and administrative skill. It is our way of life. The uncommitted nations want to see before they choose."

British Prime Minister Harold MacMillan walked away from the podium. His speach had garnered immense applause and even cheering from many of the people gathered outside of parliament to hear his historic speech. However, inside of Parliament the response had been drastically different. The faces of many of the men who had come to hear the speech were crimson red and they appeared to quite angry at what the Prime Minister had said. Some of the MPs, especially those of British stock (descent) felt betrayed by the British government.

MacMillan would allow South African Prime Minister Hendrik Malan the opportunity to have a response to the audience in the form of a speech. Once Malan was finished with his speech, Malan and MacMillan would then have a private meeting to discuss improving British-South African relations, Inter-Commonwealth relations, the rise of nationalism and communism in Africa and around the world, and Britain assisting the South African military and diamond mining industries.

Copenhagen, The British Mandate of Denmark

After the newly-independent government of Denmark collapsed due to Soviet-back uprisings across the nation; the British and their allies restored order in the country by creating a democratic interim government which deposed the rogue unelected previous government.

After weekslong preparations for a referendum on Denmark's future status, 92% of the Danish people voted in the referendum and the results were:

●Should Denmark become independent?- 30
●Should Denmark join Sweden-Norway-Finland to become a united Scandinavia?- 52%
●Should Denmark stay British?- 13%
●Should Denmark join The United Socialist Soviet Republics of Russia?- 3%
●Should Denmark join West Germany? 2%
●Should Denmark join East Germany -1%

Due to the results of the referendum, the Scandinavian and British governments deliberated for weeks and finally reached a settlement on the transfer of Danish sovereignty to Scandinavia from Britain.

After the Danish people voted for Scandinavian unification, the process for integration with the rest of Scandinavia began; excluding Iceland which is to remain British at this time. Around 2,500 British and Commonwealth troops will remain across the newly-integrated Denmark. British government officials should leave by 1st of July 1960. Scandinavian government officials shall take their place after that date. Denmark will officially become part of Scandinavia on 1st January 1961, after Britain sells Denmark to Scandinavia for a symbolic £1 plus the costs of all British investment in Denmark. Until then, Denmark shall remain under British sovereignty but Scandinavian administration in a condominium government.

So finally, after 13 years of Britain administering Denmark, Denmark shall see a new change that it's people have hoped for for years, unification with Scandinavia. Now all Fenno-Scandinavian nations excluding Iceland shall be one nation. The British government did not rule out the chance of Iceland later joining Scandinavia, however.

So today ushers in a new era for Denmark, for Scandinavia, and Europe as a whole. A new era of peace, stability and democracy.

[The Peoples East Africa]

Hendrik Malan was among those who clapped for the Prime Minister's speech. As he walked up to the podium, he got out the speech his professional speechwriter had prepared. He cleared his throat, and began.

The tendency in Africa for nations to become independent, and at the same time to do justice to all, does not only mean being just to the black man of Africa, but also to be just to the white man of Africa.

We call ourselves European, but actually we represent the white men of Africa. They are the people not only in the Union but through major portions of Africa who brought civilisation here, who made the present developments of black nationalists possible. By bringing them education, by showing them this way of life, by bringing in industrial development, by bringing in the ideals which western civilisation has developed itself.

And the white man came to Africa, perhaps to trade, in some cases, perhaps to bring the gospel; has remained to stay. And particularly we in this southern most portion of Africa, have such a stake here that this is our only motherland, we have no where else to go. We set up a country bare, and the Bantu came in this country and settled certain portions for themselves, and it is in line with the thinking of Africa, to grant those fullest rights which we also with you admit all people should have and believe providing those rights for those people in the fullest degree in that part of southern Africa which their forefathers found for themselves and settled in. But similarly, we believe in balance, we believe in allowing exactly those same full opportunities to remain within the grasp of the white man who has made all this possible. As long as I am Prime Minister, I will make sure these opportunities are available to all!

He stepped down to a mix of applause, and looks of uncertainty among his fellow politicians. Ignoring them, he walked to his British counterpart.
