Army: 250,000: active ~100,000: reserve / The quality of the Balkan Armed Forces (BAF) weapons is slightly behind compared to major powers like Germany and Great Britain but that is made up with the soldiers training. Roughly 200,000 are highly trained (3 years of military training) and are part of the Βουνού Βαλκανίων Πεζικού (Balkan Mountain Infantry). They are well known for their Guerrilla Tactics and their light infantry movements.
Navy: ~2,000 personal / The Balkan Navy is underfunded due to their access to open waters freely. Their are only a few above water warships (~20) but they only secure the coast their real power is again is in their light movement tactics. The only part of the fleet that gets good funding is their Submarine Fleet (~35).
Air Force: ~200 personal / No military only experimental. No aircraft, but slowly edging that way...slowly
Economic Strength: The Balkan's economy is moderate-moderate high. Most of the old Byzantine banks were in European Constantinople and other major Balkan banks. Due to the large sum of old gold held in Balkan Banks, the Balkans are able to keep a healthy economy.
Infrastructure: Buildings are quite good due to Greek and Byzantine methods. Railroad connects the country, but roads are still in poor contain.
Scientific Research and Development: Work on aircraft (nonmilitary reasons), an automobile for every family, and newer roads are high on the to-do list.
Primary Goals: Basically to stay in this world. We are content about were we are, so I guess only to try to make some allies.
History: In 1840 Astro-Hungary's democratic revolution finally reached into the Byzantine Empire. By 1857 most of the Byzantium's Balkan territories were up in arms demanding a change. In 1858 a revolution was declared and the Balkans declared themselves independent from the Byzantine Empire. Due to the economic importance of the Balkans and it's modernization compared to the rest of the Byzantine Empire they were able to hold the Byzantine Empire off long enough to breaker for peace. In 1860 the Byzantine Empire and the new United Federation of Balkans parted ways, the Byzantine Empire then fell apart by 1870 the Byzantine Empire lost the rest of it's claims and was finally destroyed. In 1874 the United Federation the Balkans changed their capital from Constantinople to Sofia. Since 1875 the United Federation the Balkans has been reaching out to see if any other countries what to be allies.

It would be very hard to defend. Far off the main land, I'm sure the navy is also busy in the Caribbean. There's really no value to it anyway, other than pacific outpost, but they already have the Aleutians.

Army: Size~60,000 to 75,000 active personal. Groups of irregular hired warriors have been a part of Ottoman counterinsurgency forces (Which was a very big force because of rebblions in the middle east and the civil war during byzantine times in the balkans). Mercenary groups were made up of Kurdish and Arab cavalry formed by Ottomans in the 1890s.

Organization: Army commands were replaced by “army inspectorates” of which the main responsibility was training and mobilization. The army was to be composed of three parts: regular army (nizamiye), reserve army (redif) and the home guard (müstahfız). The corps was established in the 1890s. Reserve divisions were to be combined into reserve corps and they were to be given artillery units. The strengths of the Ottoman army were at the highest points of its rank structure. At the bottom end, its rank were tough and capable of great feats of endurance, and were famous throughout Europe for their tenacity, but unlike the British or the Germans, the Ottomans had no long service corps of professional non-commissioned officers, which created the weakest point. (both size and a description of its quality, organisation & structure, etc)
Navy: The Ottoman Navy has 21 battleships and 173 other types of warships, ranking as the fourth largest navy in the world after the British, German, and the French navies. However, numbers were the only thing going for them and the Ottoman navy was very poorly trained and as the Sultan said: "Out of our 21 battleships; only 7 are up to date with Europe, and out of our 173 warships; only 50 of them have well equipped crews and only 43 of them are in great condition." Due to government lack of attention to the navy compared to the air force and army, the navy organization is mostly decided upon by naval commanders and ranking up does not need skill, only alot of bribes. Air Force: 100 pilots and 80 airplanes (not all for warfare) (This will largely depend on the economic and industrial capability of your nation. So at the start of the RP, really only major powers will have moderately large and modern air forces for a while)
Economic Strength: Due to the lost of Balkan lands, the Ottoman Economy suffered strongly during the 1880s and early 1890s. Due to this hardship, it gave rebels another reason to rebel and the Sultan was displaced, with loyal armies fighting for him in Syria causing massive damages in Syrian towns. However, thankfully, the 2 cities of Aleppo and Damascus were not badly hurt by the fighting and repairs were carried out and finished in a matter of years, plus new factories. The Ottoman Empire is currently in the process of building factories in Iraq and north Arabia while giving cities like Aleppo, Alexandria, and other cities mainly in the East funds to develop factories and ports. Out of 10, the economy of the ottoman empire is a 6 or 7. (briefly describe how wealthy your nation is)
Infrastructure: The capital, Ankara, Damascus, Cairo, and Baghdad are all on European terms and even outclass cities such Lyon, Munich, and challenge the wealth of Rome and Madrid. The roads in and around these cities are in great condition with national roads such as from Baghdad to Cairo or Damascus to Aleppo are in good repair and you would rarely find faults in these roads. However, these cities and a few are all the Ottomans could be proud of, with many small towns and cities have poor roads and such and lack even a real road, having to use instead a dirt path. (briefly describe the quality of your nations infrastructure)
Scientific Research and Development: Hardly anything noteworthy, since this aspect does not get much funds. Only the development of better ways (and cheaper) to get oil and how to process it gets whatever funds actually go to the aspect. (briefly describe the state of scientific R&D in your nation)

History: Once the Balkans left the Byzantine Empire, the Sultan locked the Navy inside the Golden Horn and left the army generals no power to command the armies, thus leaving them powerless and their only real job was their title. Having enough, a general named Muhammad revolted and gathered armies from Egypt and Turkey and marched to the capital. Fearing his life, the sultan retreated to Syria where he raised a loyal army and went on to Baghdad, where he heard reports of loyal Iraqi men. However, these rumors were false and he was captured near Baghdad while his army was trapped in Aleppo due to the navy blockading it (once he took over the capital, Muhammad freed the navy) and well equipped Turkish and Egyptian armies on land. It surrendered 2 weeks later and the Ottoman Empire was united under Sultan Muhammad the II. He ordered for economic reform and declared that from now on, the Ottoman Empire must focus on 2 aspects to make them great; the army and oil. (From point of deviation from actual history)

But most European wars of the time took place in the colonies, not Europe. That's why the world wars were so catastrophic.

Even then, most European wars fizzled out before they became true conflicts. Eventually, one nation backed down to let the other enter, or two nations would reach an agreement, either together or through the Concert of Europe. This system of 'one guy will back down eventually' is what made the July Crisis of 1914 spiral out of control. Neither Austria nor Russia had the privilege of being able to back down. Both empires were on their way to the gutter, slowly moving to the guillotine where they would, in time, lose their heads. If either nation backed down in that conflict, their time as a Great Power would be over. So, they steamed along, further and further down the path until there was no other way on but war.

I hope this system gets a bit of light in this RP. Most conflicts didn't end in war, and no nation really wanted war. They banged their chest until the other one surrendered. Usually, Britain won. This crisis system should be adhered to by a lot of our powers.
