Iron and Steel

"Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principles which direct them."-Napoleon Bonaparte; First Emperor of France

"The 19th Century brought forth the first global conflict in human history, the Great War. From 1810 to 1817, the great empires of Europe fought across the globe in a massive conflict that claimed more than five million souls. At the end of the war, empires were dethroned, new nations were born, and some nations disappeared forever, such as Austria which was absorbed into Germany and the new Kingdom of Hungary. Italy was divided once more with the creation of the Papal State in the southern regions of the peninsula, and France made attempts to reestablish a global empire once more. The Russian Empire collapsed to become the new Confederation of Socialist States as the Socialist movement also spread to the United States. In the meantime the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Netherlands dissolved along with the Anglo-Dutch-German Alliance as Germany and Britain nabbed up the Netherlands colonies. Yet with the new world shaped in such a manner, who knows what shall happen in the 20th Century. One only knows it shall come through the forces of Iron and Steel."

Well as you can probably guess, this is a 20th Century, aka 1900's, AH RP. Well it is a continuation from the original Iron and Steel which was a 19th Century AH. So we will start in the year 1900, with the tech level of 1910 though some tech in specific will be allowed early if a vote is taken and the outcome is largely in favor. So let's take history by the reigns and take it for a spin eh.

19th Century Alternate Events in 1st Iron and Steel

The Great War was the first major global military conflict in modern human history, which occurred between May 17th, 1810 (French Invasion of Anglo-Dutch Belgium) and September 1st, 1817 (General Armistice). It brought conflict amongst all Europe's great Empire's and lead to the collapse of some nations. The two sides of the Great War were the Quadruple Alliance (First French Empire, Kingdom of Italy, Austrian Empire, and the Kingdom of Belgium) and the Grand Coalition (United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Netherlands, German Empire, Grand Duchy of Courland, and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth). The Russian Empire was a temporary member of the Quadruple Alliance prior to Belgian independence but signed separate Armistice treaties with the Grand Coalition following declarations of war by both Germany and Courland after the Russian invasion of Poland-Lithuania. After the collapse of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the immediate aftermath of the Russian invasion, Germany partitioned Poland itself to create the largely autonomous Duchy of Warsaw whilst Courland partitioned Lithuania to create the United Baltic Kingdom. The war ended in a draw between the great powers but the balance of power was forever changed in the world.

Rules:

Now, in this domain, I am King, Emperor, President, Consul, Premier etc. thus my word is law here! Only I make the laws, though the CO-OP's can issue edicts of their own after talking with me about them before I decide whether to add it as a rule.

1. ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL I TOLERATE ANY FLAMING OR DISRESPECT OF ANY PLAYER! I WILL NOT STAND IT! We are all here to have fun right? So no spoiling it with foul play. If there is any act of flaming, the flamer will be suspended from the IC and OOC and the Mods will be informed.

2. No Godmodding. I am unanimous on this point. Same goes for Metagaming.

3. No wielding OP like control unless you are OP, which you cant be cause that's me, or you are a CO-OP.

4. No one liners in the IC when its up.

5. Have fun. That is an order.

6. As to time in the IC. Four IC Pages equals One Month. Though specific Battles or events will be in a sort of separate Real Time. Everything else will still proceed with the Four Page equals one month ruling but specific events will just be separate from that but nations can still interact in other areas whilst that event is going on.

Proud advocate that Europe stands stronger together than divided. The EU may be flawed in some areas but the idea of a united Europa can only bring good fortune to Europe and the world. For more than two thousand years, Europe was home to conflicts inspired by coveting one another's territory and resources, even making the continent the home to some of the world's most destructive and costly conflicts. But the idea was all wrong in their minds. Their idea was to bring this territory or that under their flag and spread influence on the continent. The idea they should all have been thinking was that the goal should be to bring the continent under one unified flag.

The Paektu line is a long line of trenches, forts, and bunkers protecting the Korean peninsula. Streching across the Yalu River, Paektu Mountain Ranges, and the Tumen River, it is manned and its garrison continuously drilled. In case of an invasion force, will manage to break through Manchuria and reach the old Korean-Chinese border, bridges that span the rivers are rigged to blow, making the Paektu Mountian Range the only land route into the heart of the Korean Empire.

Navy:
The navy much like the army, is well trained and well equipment and also holds exercises every month. The Korean navy did not dwell far from its old tactic of long range engagements, preferring long range bombardments and maneuvering. Battle squadrons are built for long range engagements while destroyer squadrons use their armaments to torpedo enemy dreadnoughts and cruisers. Submarines are used to ambush unaware fleets, either harassing them, or hunting down heavily damaged ships in the midst of battle.

Economic Strength: The Korean peninsula and Inner Manchuria is heavily industrial, and one of the most productive in the world. Steel production is strong and Korean goods are everywhere in Asia, especially automobiles and textiles. The shipbuilding and naval industry is strong as well.
Infrastructure: Roads are well maintained and the railway is efficient and regularly upgraded. Roads specifically for automobiles connect the major cities in the Korean Empire.
Scientific Research and Development: Korean military research focuses on tank and airplane improvements and developing a viable radar system. Radio improvements are also researched to make it more portable and strong in terms of connection. The Korean civilian populace research biology, chemistry, and physics, which is a popular subject among Korean students. Telecommunications and electronics is also a rapidly growing center in research by the private sector.
Primary Goals: Fortify its position as a major pacific power
History:
(After previous RP)
After the Great War which started in 1810, Korea underwent a period of expansion until 1830. Taking Russian land and conquering Japan as well as fortifying Korea's hold over Sulawesi and the Philippines, Korea learned valuable lessons from the conquests. The invasion of Japan was initially a disaster as Korean organization made relaying orders difficult and overloaded officers. Korean Hwa'cha proved ineffective against a modern army and were phased out in favor of more artillery pieces, military reform concerning organization and tactics soon followed and Japan was eventually conquered and its royal family put under house arrest. Korea rapidly expanded and upgraded its infrastructure for all of its territory, fostering economic growth and. For the next seventy years, Korea focused on improving its technology and economy. Korea is unopposed in several industries in Asia and its military is one of the strongest, if not the strongest in the Pacific.

Full Nation Name: El Magnífico Real Imperio de Iberia (The Grand Royal Empire of Iberia)
Short Nation Name: El Imperio de Iberia (The Empire of Iberia)
National Flag:
Image
Territory: Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Venezeula
Colonies: ^Stated above
Client States: None
Official Language(s): Spanish, Portuguese, English, French
Form of Government: Absolute Monarchy
Head of State: Francisco Elraz II
Head of Government: Francisco Elraz II
Capital City: Madrid
Population: 50,000,000
Ethnicities: Spanish (60%), Portuguese (20%), English (5%), French (10%), Turkish (5%)
Religion: Roman Catholic
Army: 500,000 Active, 1,000,000 Reserve.
I will explain it all in the spoiler-
There are multiple armies on the continents, 300,000(+600,000 Reserve) being in Spain and Portugal(That is known as the Ejército Real española del Continente, or Spanish Royal Army of the Mainland). There are 100,000(+400,000 Reserve) in the army of America (Ejército de América, literally Army of America).
Quality

The army of the mainland and America were up to date with european equiptment, as well as armored vehicles and planes.
Uniforms
The Treyse Armored Vehicle
Oranization

Armies were organized as 50,000 men under command of a Brigadier, in those 50,000 men will be regiments of 2,000 men. 6 Regiments are specialized regiments, divided between Calvary and artillery. Meaning there is 3,000 Cavalry and 3,000 Artillerist (Artillerists are their crew and their guards). The armies in North America regiments have 1 (This will increase to ten in 1939).

General Command

The Emperor is at head of the army with the rank "Comandante Imperial en Jefe del Ejército español", or Imperial Commander in Chief of the Spanish Army. Following is the leading General with the rank of Field Marshal General, with the title of "Imperial Alto Comandante del Ejército" or Imperial High Commander of the Army. The Imperial High Commander is Jozef Hinder, a Polish officer that rose through the ranks as a bright commander in the war of Portuguese Suppression. There are currently 20 Lieutenant Generals, 30 Major Generals, and 50 Brigadiers.

Navy: Well-
Quality

The Atlantic Mediterranean Fleets, and Indian Fleet are strong and able to compete against others secondary powers, and in some cases a few great powers. But if it went to war with say Britain or France our navy will be crushed. Each fleet has 2 Dreadnoughts, 4 Ironclads, 5 Cruisers, 10 First Rates, and 12 Second Rates. Thats just now. It will improve. The others merely have 1 Dreadnought, 2 Ironclads, 2 Cruisers, 5 First Rates, and 6 Second Rates.
Organization

I stated that above

Admiralty

The Admiralty is led by Espana Lord Admiral James Hernadez. There are 10 Admirals in it.

Air Force: 10 Experimental Planes.
Economic Strength: Due to our colonies in America, we can trade from multiple continents and gain a revenue from that. But due to the mass military and trying to improve it, it is taking nearly 10,000,000 Spanish peseta. As well, our currency is currently exiting out of inflation, and our unemployment rate has lowered signifigantly after we opened millions government jobs and offices in the colonies and in Iberia. Farming has been a major factor in our economy, industrialization is soon to fix that.
Infrastructure: Buildings in Urban and Rural in the Mainland are up to date with European standards, with stone roads. But in America, about 15% of the buildings are up to date, the others crudely built. Dirt roads are in Brazil and the rest of south america while some roads in North America have stone roads.
Scientific Research and Development: Currently focusing on improving the Armored cars in the military and working on planes, it is trying to catch up with europe. It isn't good enough to be compared against major nations in Europe but is good enough to demand and get results.
Primary Goals: Industrialization of the Colonies, forming a more unified nation, slight interests in gaining a small trading colony in Asia.
History: The Formation of Iberia began in a union of Spain and Portugal to help control their fragile Colonies. As you can today, it did not work well. Losing the Jewel Colony of Mexico, constant fighting against geurilla forces in South America resulted in the loss of Colombia and Argentina. Industrialization of the nation and her colonies began in 1850, which some what achieved their purpose. Much of the North Amazon Forest was cut down for resources used to remake houses in the colonies, and with all of this being done, it opened thousands of jobs for civilians to occupy.

In 1896 a insurgent force of 10,000 men occupied Lisbon. At the time, Major Jozef Hinder had a reserve force of 5,000 men inside the city of Lisbon, which occupied 20 buildings seperating them all into 250 seperate forces. They used artillery from the capital building to make it look like they were firing on the insurgents to lure them in, which resulted in them doing so. They entered the the capital square which the 20 government buildings were being secretely garrisoned, which then resulted in them firing on the insurgents. Jozef ordered that after every shot fired another man take his spot to fire, then so forth and so forth. The force was cut down to 4,200 men before retreating. 1,200 men then abandoned the insurgent army, 560 being captured by local police. The rest of the insurgent army attempted to leave the city but was caught outside by a army of 20,000 men already marching in. a Small battle occurred which resulted in 2,100 of them being killed, the rest injured and captured. All the officers were hanged. 200 civilians were killed in the battles.

Major Jozef Hinder was promoted to Colonel General in the following year and awarded the Medal of Sovereignty and Medal of Espana, both the highest military medals that have ever been achieved by a lower ranking General. He was then sent to deal with minor rebellions which could have blossomed into major revolts in South America. He was awarded being Commander of the Army in 1900. As well, in 1897 Portugal was fully annexed into the Spanish kingdom forming the Empire of Iberia

RP Example: I do believe I do not need one, as I said, they are all old and outdated.

Head of Government: Same
Capital City: Amsterdam
Population: 30 million
Ethnicities: Dutch, Malay, African, Malagasy, Arab, Chinese, German
Religion: The official religion is Lutheranism, as it is the King's religion, however there are many unpersecuted Catholics, especially in the Netherland's south.
Army: Royal Legermacht
Dutch Army: 106,700 active duty, 44,400 in reserve.
Colonial Army of Malaya and Borneo: 120,100 active duty, 25,000 in reserve.
Solomon Settlements Militia: 2,000 active duty, 3,000 in reserve.
The Colonial Army of Madagascar and Comoros: 20,000 active duty, 13,000 in reserve.
Dutch African Army: 86,050 active duty, 24,500 in reserve.
Army of Suriname: 23,000 active duty, 17,000 in reserve.
Total: 335,850 active duty, 126,900 in reserve.
The Dutch Army is an all Dutch fighting force to defend the homeland, under the King's directive. The colonial forces are under the control of Crown Princes and their respective colonial government, made up of both Dutch settlers and locals. Both Colonial forces and the Dutch Army receive the same training and equipment. The military is highly professional, efficient, and small, with the government hiring German officers for training, and the military being equipt with the finest German armaments available. The Army is also looking into armored vehicles, and has built 65 experimental ones so far.
All officers are required three years of school in the Rotterdam Army Academy, or one of their campuses in Drappenburg, Dutch West Africa, Kuching, Borneo, and Paramaribo, Suriname.
Navy: Royal Zeevloot
Total: 12,000 men active duty, 13,000 in reserve, with a large merchant fleet to call on for sailors during wartime.
The Navy has 8 dreadnaughts, 23 cruisers, 15 light destroyers, 15 heavy destroyers, 18 ironclads, 4 submarines, plus an array of small escort ships and a very large merchant fleet and ship building infrastructure, which helps during wartime, and has allowed for the Navy to have so many high quality ships despite its size. Most if the ships are German designed and Dutch built, to ensure that they are of the highest quality.
It is in Dutch blood to be an expert seafarer. That is why the Dutch navy, despite its size is top notch both in equipment and training. All officers are required to have at least five years merchant experience plus one year at the Royal Naval School of Amsterdam or the Royal Naval School of Singapore, or four years at the Naval School and one in the merchant fleet. Most members if the Zeevloot are veterans of the merchant fleet, so most sailors are already sea hardened.
Air Force: Royal Luchtmacht
Total: 2,000 Active Duty, 1,000 In Reserve
26 Tyral Class Recon Aircraft
16 Anneke Class Bombers
28 Betje Class Fighters
9 Gerolt Class Cargo/Transport Crafts (In development)
All officers receive four years training at the internationally acclaimed Drachten Air Academy. Pilots also receive four years training, learning to fly the crafts in all sorts of environments and combat situations, as well as radio and signaling knowledge. All planes are Dutch designed and Dutch built, and technology used for military purposes is beginning to be used to pioneer the technology of air shipping for cargo and people.
Economic Strength:
The Dutch economy in the Netherlands is mostly shipping and industrial based. It is a fully industrialized nation, specializing in textiles, ship building, and maritime products. The same applies for coastal Borneo and Dutch Malaya, where cheap labor is used to produce even more goods. However, most colonies are used for shipbuilding and other raw material extraction, as well as cash crop farming in the form of Cacao, tea, and coffee. Rubber is also farmed, and Bauxite and iron are mined, all for industrial use. Oil is harvested in Dutch Africa and Borneo.
Infrastructure: Almost all roads in the homeland are stone, with proper European, urban, architecture. An intricate canal system connects Holland, a large rail system connecting the whole homeland. Most roads in Suriname are dirt, with only stone and proper architecure/urban planning in the small cities. In Dutch Africa, there is a highway and rail system, but most roads are dirt, with proper urban planning mostly in cities. Borneo has a highway system, but is mostly dirt roads on the interior especially. There is a railway through the island and around its circumference. Dutch Malaya has a north-south highway and rail system, and is very much European in the cities, especially in New Limburg(Kuala Lumpur) and Singapore.
Scientific Research and Development: Mostly maritime and industrial focused, with a growing research in air travel and air shipping.
Primary Goals: Colonial expansion, Cooperation with the British and Germans, to take back Belgium(or at least split it in half), military growth
History: When the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Netherlands dissolved in 1817, the Netherlands was mostly without colonial possessions, and a weak economy and republic. The republic was mostly at the will of the many companies that were based in the Netherlands. However, after the republic managed to work out a deal, getting Suriname, there was a wave of nationalism. The republic was disbanded, the royal family reinstated. The renewed nation began to re-build its industrial base, focusing in textiles and fine good manufacturing, as well as shipbuilding and shipping. A huge merchant fleet was created, and soon after, a military boom with the help of the German's occurred. The government almost eliminated corporate taxation, creating another economic boom, and the corporate colonization of the Solomon Islands, Borneo, and Malaya. These colonies were soon nationalized, however the New Dutch East India Company still operates within them, harvesting cash crops and raw materials. Soon after, Dutch Africa was colonized. Now, the monarchy is using tax money to keep the economy at its maximum output through intense economic planning. The military is working closely with the Germans. While still viewing themselves as the sister nation of both Germany and Great Britain, the Dutch have grown closer to the Germans economically and militarily.

Full Nation Name: Republic of Hungary
Short Nation Name: Hungary, Greater Hungary
National Flag:
Image

Territory:
The brownish-red territory in Central Europe
Colonies: Hungarian Somaliland, Hungarian East Africa
Client States: N/A
Official Language(s): Hungarian, German
Form of Government: Parliamentary republic
Head of State: President Georgy Baráth
Head of Government: Prime Minister Ferenc Kemény
Capital City: Budapest
Population: 17.5 million
Ethnicities: Magyar (Hungarian), Romanians, Ruthenians, Serbs, Croats, German
Religion: The government is officially secular on all matters pertaining to religion, and the Church holds virtually no power in Hungary; separation of Church and State is heavily stressed. However, Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion, followed by various denominations of Protestantism and a large Jewish minority.
Army: The Hungarian Army, once disorganized, poorly trained and equipped, was heavily reformed and received a major overhaul. The Army adopted the Prussian model, and with the help of Germany, modernized and trained the army. Currently, the Hungarian Army stands at around 200,000 active and 150,000 reserve, making a total of 350,000 men. However, the Hungarian Army can mobilize up to 800,000 men at a time, which is significantly smaller than nations like Germany and France, who can mobilize millions of men. Having been formerly trained and helped by German officers and generals, the Army largely resembles Germany's in some aspects, although it has its differences. One of its weaknesses are its numbers, which can't be too high due to Hungary's rather small population in comparison with the other Great Powers. However, this is made up in training, and the Army also includes an elite 15,000-strong force called the Honvéd (National Defense) Guard which is considered the best of Hungary's troops. The President is the Commander-in-chief of the military.
Navy: With Hungary's independence in 1848, the Hungarian Navy largely consisted of the Austrian Empire's former navy; the government was largely focused on organizing and trying to keep the Republic together in the early years of fledging Republic, and the Navy was largely ignored, with the most focus being put towards the Army. However, in the late 60s and early 70s as Hungary began to industrialize thanks to the help of its allies, several prominent people within Hungary began advocating for the expansion and reform of its navy. While it is still a rather formidable force, containing 2 capital-class dreadnoughts and a handful of pre-dreadnoughts, as well as dozens of other ships, the Hungarian Navy is given less priority than the army. Currently, the Navy consists of 10,000 active personnel and around 20,000 reserve, making up a total of 30,000 men.
Air Force: The Hungarian Aviation Troops, or Air Force, is the weakest branch out of the 3; consisting of only 500 pilots, it has around ~100 aircraft, with only around half the number being actually operable. The Aviation troops also has a handful of reconnaissance balloons. Several attempts have been made to try to expand the number of squadrons currently within the aviation troops, but have failed.
Economic Strength: Despite having industrialized, Hungary still remains a large food producer and exporter to the rest of Europe; with a stable and strong economy that has steadily been growing since the country's industrialization in the mid-1800s, its economy is still smaller compared to nations like Germany, France and Britain. Budapest has become an administrative, economic, political, trade and cultural hub in Hungary, and other major cities continue to flourish. However, despite this, there are disparities when it comes to different parts of Hungary; the western and central parts of the Republic are typically more economically developed then those in the other parts of the Empire. Its major trading partners are Germany, followed by the United Kingdom, the Balkan Federation, and Poland.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of Hungary is rather well developed, mainly in the central parts of the Republic. Most of Hungary's cities are connected by rail and the country itself has over 6,000 km of railways. Most of them are nationalized; roads in Hungary are usually well maintained when they connect urban areas, but are of significantly poorer quality in the countryside. In addition to this, the western parts of the Republic are typically more developed than the other parts. Hungary also has horse-drawn tramcars in most of its cities, and has developed its ports significantly. The country has over 2,500 telegraph offices, and the first telephone exchange occurred in Budapest in 1881. With this, the country is more interconnected than ever before, although it faces problems in bringing up the quality of roads and infrastructure in the less-developed parts of Hungary up to scratch.
Scientific Research and Development: Hungary's science R&D lags behind that of the other European nations; however, it is still not something to be ignored and a number of scientific institutions, academies, and schools have been opened up throughout Hungary throughout the 1800s. Research and development for the military is largely funded by the government, but the same is not true for research in civilian fields without potential military applications, and it is usually left up to donations or the individual/group's own wealth to help research and develop that.
Primary Goals:
-Continue the gradual process of Magyarization
-Continue growing and expanding the economy
-Crush/suppress ethnic uprisings and revolts
-Continue developing Hungary
History:
As the waves of revolutions swept through Europe in the year of 1848, many countries in Europe were occupied by their own liberal insurrections and rebellions, and Austria was no exception. Hungary had been fighting for reforms for decades, and Austrian Chancellor Metternich was overthrown in March 13 by a rebellion who protested the old order of monarchies and conservatism in Europe. Austria's Italian territories began to revolt, and in March 15 radicals presented their demands in the 12 points to the government, who accepted, afraid of the potential consequences if they refused and the speed at which events were occurring and developing within the Empire. The Emperor passed a series of reforms, abolishing serfdom and organizing the forces in Hungary into a National Guard, which was required to swear allegiance to the government based in Buda. However, the new government was not without problems, and the Austrian govenment regarded the government in Hungary and the reforms (of which were known as the April Laws) as temporary measures. In June, an uprising in Serbia, followed by an invasion from the South by Croatian Count Jellacic, and a rebellion in Romania in September. The Hungarians had not fully organized their military, and this all proved very very problematic for the government.

Jellacic's forces were repelled in the Battle of Pákodz, and the Hungarian Army, consisting of former National Guardsmen, conscripted civilians, and former Imperial units, moved into Austria to assist Viennese revolutionaries. The invasion was repulsed, and the Austrians, counting on Russian support, attempted to invade Hungary. The Hungarian leadership knew that their army would not be able to stop an Imperial invasion, and contacted both German and American diplomats and leaders in an attempt to discourage Austria from an invasion, or at least delay them while the Hungarians were able to regroup and gather their armies. Attempts to mediate a peace failed, and the Austrians launched an invasion of Hungary; Germany declared support for Hungary and moved in against Austria. No Russian support came, and they were preoccupied with their own problems. In the ensuing Treaty of Berlin, the once mighty Austrian Empire was dissolved, with Austria being controlled by Germany, the Kingdom of Hungary becoming independent, and Bohemia-Moravia formed as a joint German-Hungarian client state. The new, fledging Republic under Lajos Kossuth now sought to unify the divided nation, which, in its early years, threatened to tear itself apart from ethnic tensions. Count Jellacic, with the odds against him, still tried to fight against Hungarian rule, while a revolt in Transylvania lead to the occupying Hungarian forces being attacked by mobs. In 1849, a series of minority rights and laws passed the Hungarian Parliament, with Kossuth hoping it could placate the restless minorities; while it did serve to ease ethnic tensions, the rebellions still went on.

By 1850, a reorganized Hungarian army, with German assistance, crushed the revolt in Transylvania, but it would not be until 1851 when Count Jellacic was defeated and Croatia-Slavonia found itself under Hungarian domination. With the rebellions quelled, the nation could finally focus on rebuilding; Kossuth sought to finally industrialize Hungary, which, before then, remained a largely agricultural nation. Placing high protection tariffs on the small Hungarian industrial sector, he started the process of industrialization in the 1850s along with German aid. In addition to this, the near-dictator powers granted by the Parliament were no longer needed after Kossuth organized his own government, and this meant he could no longer easily push through his agenda through Parliament, who was responsible for passing laws in the country. A growing opposition as well as criticism of Kossuth lead to him being forced out of offie, although his successors largely continued his policies. Hungary began to lean towards the German camp, as they had helped Hungary against their enemy, Austria, as well as assisted with the development of Hungary and the quelling of the various revolts staged by Hungary's restless ethnic minorities. However, seeking to increase the Magyar population, the government started to encourage reproduction among the Magyars, rather than outright trying to assimilate the minorities into Hungary. The government also continued to waver between outright Magyarization and half-hearted concessions and promises of autonomy to the minorities.

As Hungary began industrializing and experiencing widespread economic growth and development, the government's focus shifted towards the military, and bringing it up to scratch with the other Great Powers. During the 1860s, Hungary sent military observers to the Civil War, as well as adopting a strict system of discipline and training for the Hungarian military, to compensate for its numerical inferiority. Railroads, roads, and Hungary's infrastructure were all extensively developed, as the need to transport military troops became apparent to the government. By 1870 Hungary had fully industrialized in most of its cities, and now had a modern army to top it off; several ethnic revolts and uprisings were easily crushed, leading to a popular belief that widespread resistance was useless. Around this time, Hungary had already began to strengthen relations with Poland and Denmark-Norway, who would soon become its allies. In addition, the nation found itself at odds with nations like the Papal State, France, and Russia, none of them who were on particularly friendly terms with its main ally, Germany. Very friendly relations were developed with America, who sympathized with the revolutionaries in the Hungarian War of Independence, and a number of Hungarian leaders toured and met with American leaders during the 60s and 70s, including Kossuth. In addition, a number of prominent Hungarian statesmen advocated for the expansion of the navy, which was in abysmal condition, despite the reforms and modernization of the army. Efforts to build up a navy would end by the late 1880s and early 1890s, and in 1882 the Quadruple Alliance was signed between Hungary , Denmark-Norway, Germany, and Poland. It was designed to be a military alliance, bearing a remarkable resemblance to OTL's Triple Alliance. Since then, Hungary has mainly focused on continuing to grow the economy, develop infrastructure in poor regions, and continue to keep up with the militaries and technologies of the other Great Powers.
