It's generally been a disconnected plot that isn't shown in the show. We normally try to keep the canon characters at a distance, but generally things like having the dance, going to Forever Fall Forest, Grimm Attacks, and assignments are unavoidable as well as interesting to spice things up.

My own personal headcanon when ORB and I did a mini arc with Leonard and his brother in a flashback of his tells that it is at least duo missions.
Plus, if I was in such a world, I'd prefer having someone have my back instead of having my back, my non existent sides and my front by myself.
