Would you allow a Spartan-III Headhunter to join the crew? I can play them quite well. Incase you don't know of the Headhunter program, it's basically similar to the Spartan-II Black and Grey Teams. ONI finds exceptional Spartan-III's, takes them out of the rank and file, and puts them into guerrilla/black operation scenarios. Very badass.

Oh yes... speaking of chain of command. Spartans are under the Navy Spec Ops divisions so the III we have wouldn't be a sergeant he would be a Petty Officer Second Class. Not sure how picky we are so thought I would bring it up.

He stowed away on the last civilian ship to leave reach after his family left him behind to witness the destruction of their home, friends and family at the hands of the Covenant. He ran to the nearest village and found it was the same way. So he gathered enough food and gear to make it to one of the evacuation points. He was picked up outside of New Alexandria by UNSC Marines after two days of hiking and hiding from Covenant Patrols. Upon entering New Alexandria the squad that rescued him was ambushed by Hunters and Michael barely escaped. He made it to one of the life boats that was going off world and stowed away in the cargo bay before it lifted off. He was found midflight and managed to evade 4 of the crew members before getting grabbed by Dr. Halsey. After that he was enrolled in the Spartan Program. He barely survived the augmentation process and was about to be declared dead when he grabbed the doctor and said "I'm not dead yet you bastard."

He was picked up outside of Gladsheim by UNSC Marines after two days of hiking and hiding from Covenant Patrols. Upon entering Gladsheim the squad that rescued him was ambushed by Hunters and Michael barely escaped. He made it to one of the life boats that was going off world and stowed away in the cargo bay before it lifted off. He was found midflight and managed to evade 4 of the crew members before getting grabbed by the ship captain. He spent the next 13 years planet hopping before enlisting with the UNSC. He demonstrated an unusual knack for hacking into comms and control systems and while in basic, "accidentally" hacked into a secure ONI Comms frequency. Two days later, he was taken away by ONI and "volunteered" to act as a counter intelligence officer and provide an extra set of hands when dealing with encrypted devices used by the Covenant and Insurrectionists.

He was diagnosed with posttraumatic vocal disarticulation after a mission went badly and all of his teammates were KIA. Joel was born in 2527 on Jericho VII, and eight years later barely escaped the glassing of the planet. His immediate family perished during the initial invasion and he only survived due to the timely intervention of a Spartan, Grace-093, who had become separated from Red Team during their mission to plant a Nuke on the planet. Grace found the young boy crouched, crying, in a small crater next to the charred remains of his family. He had minor burns running down the right side of his body and had many cuts and scrapes. The boy tried to run from the spartan when she first approached, believing her to be another covenant species. Grace easily caught up to the fleeing Joel and picked him up. She managed to calm the child down by removing her helmet and proving that she was human, just like him. Grace carried Joel back to her team and finished the mission.

Joel was separated from his rescuer and sent to an orphanage. The caretakers grew increasingly worried at his tales and stories from the battle. Many of the children had lost family during the war, but most had not actually seen it. The other children enjoyed his tales of the Spartans who had saved him and killed millions of Covenant. Sadly Joel had grown very cynical, despite his very young age. From the age of four he had convinced the entire wing that they were all meat for the grinder and would be thrown at the covenant once they were old enough. If only he had known how right he really was.

ONI had taken an interest in the boy, as his knowledge of the Spartan's existence made him a semi-threat to the secrecy of the project. Section Three abducted the thirteen year old and contemplated their options. They decided that the boy would make a good agent, if trained, and began preparing him for schooling at a nearby ODST academy. The Administrators at the Academy were uneasy about training a boy of his age, but ONI 'convinced' them that this was the best course of action. The instructors were not any kinder to the boy than they were to any other recruit, if anything they were harsher and more violent. He frequently went to sleep nursing bruises and deep lacerations. For two years he trained alongside the ODSTs, growing bigger, stronger, and tougher. Section three believed that he was trained well enough and transferred him out of the Academy. ONI set him up with several other Agents on a black op behind Covenant Lines, it did not go well. Their mission was to plant a Tactical Nuke in an ancient ruin that the covenant were excavating. There was supposed to be several high ranking elites and even a few prophets there at the site and ONI wanted them gone. The team had discovered no covenant on the approach to the site, and found nothing but plasma burns and alien blood at the central excavation area. While the rest of his team set up the nuke, Joel moved to a concealed location to watch over the team with his rifle. He saw something move in the shadows and fired at it, assuming it was a camouflaged Elite. He was wrong.

The object exploded with a mess of puss and small, spore-like creatures. Mutated creatures began emerging from the shadows and doorways, converging upon Joel's team. His friends fired into the horde emptying magazine after magazine, but only a handful of the creatures fell. Joel's rifle seemed to have less effect than the automatics that his team was using. He watched, helpless, as his team was torn apart by these creatures. He saw the tiny spore creatures attach themselves to the remains of his comrades, and he watched as they rose from pools of their own blood and turn to him. Joel ran, he ran fast and far. By the time the evac shuttle arrived and airlifted him away, Joel had gone completely silent. He had destroyed his helmet's recorder and he only stared as he pressed the detonator, nuking the excavation site and the creatures with it.

Joel was emotionally scarred from the events of his mission, leaving him unable to speak. He was sent to an ONI medical hospital for treatment of his condition, where he remained for the next three years. ONI decided that they had gotten all that they could out of this asset, and assigned him to the UNSC Memento Mori in hopes that he would be able to do a little bit more in the war; or die.
