In case anyone wonders about the 'Faraway Lands' DLC, basically 'Sakurai' refers to a land formed like Japan, while 'Antarbane' (Yet to be mentioned) is a land similar to Tych, but more centered around Francia, Charlemange and his Paladins.

Will our characters get a chance to visit these lands? Survive the incoming plots first, then we shall see. ;)

Yet another question. I know that we have magic, demons and so on, but do necromancers exist?

Maybe they do, but Necromancy, as confirmed by Raktio, is highly condemned as it defiles the soul, disrupts the natural order, and is the main school of which the Dark Mage uses, sacrificing entire communities.

So we can consider them extremely rare, as most would be hunted down by the Veil Guard, to prevent the rise of another Dark Mage from such foul arts.

Alright, I like it. Could I make my character be a necromancer? He would be very careful about using his dark powers though, especially in order not to be killed, working for money.

If that is the case, can your character link up with Karso's proposed Vampire Twins, and I'll pass you a so-called 'Death Knight' (Just an undead fighter with some life-leeching spells [Melee only]). Remember that survival for such a team is never confirmed, they will be hunted on sight by those seeking them, as well as many other perils.

You might have to come up with your own storyline, and sync with Karso. I would like to draw something for ya but am currently tied down by a couple of projects, mainly with this RP :D

Also, will need consent from Raktio, him being the Magic Coordinator ;)

Would Ronaar's Arrow be interested in joining such a party ? xD

I'm thinking that he would be an Odrysian. His city was attacked by some mercenaries, and his family was killed. He was taken by those mercenaries, and lived with them for a while, learning how to survive and kill. He eventually escaped, and was taken in by an old dark mage, who thought him everything he knew. After becoming a dark mage, he would have tried to hide his powers, occasionally killing for money.

By the way Seprena has a Sakurain formal kimono, and doesn't Z-man uses Japanese styled combat? If so we should probable link some lore.

Now onto the topic of those last four posts, first of it would be just a rogue mage. Rather than having a city attacked, it would be more sense to have a large bandit group attack a small village. This would also present you with an opportunity to flee when they're attacked by law keepers (the templar knights, the merchant assassins or the monter hunters), you take your chance to flee, and end up in the care of your teacher who's taken up living in the middle if nowhere since he or she doesn't want to be pestered by the Magi Council or anybody else while working on improving unsavory practices (which the Magi Counil already approvals of in the depths under Dueryas on the condition that no live humans are involved), and noting your exceptional power take you in. Also you'd have to be a very back country village because mages do a five year rotation of hunting for new mages (or be less than eight at the time).

Necromancy (which doesn't corrupt the soul and defile the natural order, just is perceived as to do so) has two arts, making undead, and soul theft. Making undead is fairly simple, you stick a little magic into a corpse and suddenly you've got a zombie under your command, but sentient undead tend to be much trickier since they have to be freshly dead as to not have lost their soul power (which also means making mages into sentient undead is slightly easier since they take a little longer to fade away). This art was developed some time back, and there's at least a few monstrosities (some held and some on the loose) which were made in its development. The other art is soul theft, much like how the demons do it, but it doesn't work for anything but straight up sucking out soul energy from other beings. It is instantaneous and will kill the victims. I haven't made anything beyond the one spell that the Dark Mage used, which requires already being a powerful Sorcerer to pull off.

Most regular necromancers won't know how to do soul leaching stuff since that's first off very high order magic (particularly on lqrge scale), and second off the Dark Mage was only able to get a hold of such stuff through intensive research in Dueryas (which the particular tome containing the said spell is under council lock, key and magic). That being said, being at least a high end wizard using necromancy (bringing back the dead type stuff part) amongst other things is fine by me.

Another arcane practice you might be interested in is also having transformation magic. Transformation magic is one of commonly darker practices since one of the branches (and precursor to necromancy) is transforming humans and creatures into monsters (also heavily used by the Dark Mage, though the Magi Council did their best to cover it up since they were also quite guilty of using it though out history on subjects for various reasons), and as long as done properly the subject will survive in its new form. Combined use of both of those arts would result in you being able to make better undead servants.

However as Kanilion pointed out, if you're discovered to be practicing either of those outside of the dungeons beneath Dueryas (mage school & city. What happens in Dueryas, stays in Dueryas), than you're going to be hounded by the Veil Guards (not knights, they don't have very much honor or chivalry, and are more of monster hunting rangers with magical equipment) day and night and they don't usually play fair considering what they have to deal with.

Also with most undead (the North skeletons are a unique case), they don't naturally accumulate magic, though this genuinely won't affect them, but for magic users this gives of a bland type of presence to a mage using their mage sense.

And another idea I just got, mages all have a sense which they can detect and 'read' magic with, typically it's going to be through sight, but for some it's hearing or smell, and the Vashnil family (one of the few mage lineages, and the historically most powerful) have the unique trait of just simply sensing it rather than channeling it though one of their senses. Sight would be the most refined, and giving the mage the ability to better analyses the magic, but is limited by the direction they're looking, but walls don't stop magic vision. Hearing is all around, but genuinely directionally fussy, however they have the advantage of being able to detect magic being casted easily and with plenty of training can even detect what is being casted. Sniffer mages also have a 360 sense, but they can't really sense anything unless it's passed through where they're standing, however what makes them useful is that they can track magic and mages (making them highly valued by the Veil Guards).
Broadside dead ahead!

Alright. So, my character was living with his family in a small remote village. That village was eventually attacked by bandits, who executed his family. They were followed by law keepers, who didn't only kill the bandits, they also killed the rest of the villagers after accusing them of helping the bandits. My character escaped, and was eventually found by a dark mage who was living hidden somewhere. Noticing my character's power, the dark mage takes him as his disciple. My character starts to learn dark magic, being initially drawn towards necromancy( he would have initially wanted to revive his family, until realizing that it's impossible). He also learns transformation magic and some other dark magic.
After some time, as he progressed through learning magic, he is sent by his master to other certain people, from which he learns how to fight with weapons, how to kill, and other things like that. After some time, he finally finishes his training, and starts to work for different people, mostly for money, but he mostly wants to find the persons who killed his family and kill them in horrible ways. He would be pretty cautious about using his powers though.

Regarding this, I would have two more questions.
1. Are dark mages forced to use only dark magic or can they also use normal magic?
2. Would my character be hunted if he is discovered practicing these types of black magic, or will he be hunted just because he practiced them sometimes in the past?

@Tracian

In theory any mage can do any magic so long as they have the power and the will, and they're not necessarily dark mages, just rogue mages since there's plenty of magic users who don't have any affiliation with the Magi Council, or learned at the Mage School and then left to go make a living else where with their powers under control.

Character application
Character Name: Alexander Vemid
Age: 19
Male or female?: Male
Appearance:
Image
Alexander is tall but rather slim young man, with a pale, white skin, raven black hair, and red eyes.

Brief background:
Alexander was born in a small, remote Odrysian village, as the son and second child of a former Odrysian officer and his wife. Even if the village as pretty isolated, Alexander had a happy childhood. Until one night, when a group of bandits attacked the down, killing, pillaging and stealing. They were followed a few hours later by a group of law keeping nights, but it was too late. Everyone in the village, including his family, were already dead. His older sister sacrificed herself so that he could escape. He ran away, far away, until he was found by a rogue mage, hidden deep in the wilderness, in the middle of nowhere. The mage took care of him, and noticing his exceptional magic power, took him in as his disciple.
There, Alexander learned magic, improving his power, and being pretty attracted to the dark arts of necromancy and transformation his master was working on, hidden from the world. For many years, he learned, trying to get ready for his revenge. After finishing his magic training, he started to travel from city to city, learning from different friends of his master how to fight and kill with weapons, how to hide, how to search for things, and many more. Eventually, he started to work as an assassin and mercenary, killing without mercy for money.

Profession:(Rogue) mage, assassin, mercenary, spy
Are they loyal to any specific house : No, Alexander is loyal to whoever pays more.
Do you study magic? : Yes, Alexander is studying magic, especially dark magic, in secret.
Can you read or are you illiterate?: Yes, Alexander can read.

Cant find a life-person to replace Haruna's anime looks, but the most decent one I can find, if an IRL is needed...
- Changes, assume Hair is Charcoal, looks silver in the moonlight.

Image

Notes - A formal attire for warmer climates, Haruna usually forgoes the arm sleeves, unless in occasions with acquaintances(Dinner with Mitz and foreign representatives). Clothing has accessories and patterns. Multi-layered top and skirt combo.

Haruna's usual wear. Vulnerable to cold winds, but has leggings to deflect the chilling parts. A three piece set of a folded Top, a Belt and a Skirt.

Training outfit when practicing swordsmanship or archery. A simple top which does not restrict much mobility, as well as a long skirt and a muneate to protect the chest from bowstrings, also acts as a rough chestpiece. Also used during her shrine duties. Substitutes her skirt for pants when working in the forges

Usually worn during formal ceremonies, occasions, or formal wear in colder climates.

(No hair accessories except her golden hairband.)

A suit of medium armour which takes five minutes to put on unassisted, consists of strapped-on pieces of armour focused on the upper half of the body. Allows a martial fighter to carry a varied loadout. Haruna carries a longbow and 30 arrows, two Katanas and two daggers with her.

Ignore all the steampunk stuff, only the pants, apron and top.

All of Haruna's suits and weapon scabbards are modified to suit each other. Haruna could be armed with a hidden knife anytime, or carry a katana or two openly, with the scabbards securely strapped to her waist.
