How about he allows those he conquered to keep their lands? That what was usually done unless the conquered lord happened to be on the really bad side of the guy who just conquered him. For instance, historically when Wessex conquered Sussex the king of Sussex kept most of his lands and was made the equivalent of a duke.

I don't. I only said Constitutional Monarchy because I couldn't think of any other term that describes a monarchy where the king's powers are limited.

@Irish Why dont you just murder the entirety of the nobility and install a new one in their place that is the same culture and religion as you? It's probably the most tried and true methods of post-conquest government in the dark age and the medieval age for a reason, they lose their leaders of men and suddenly the army is following the orders of someone else, really changes the peasants perspective on things...

No I knew about Romano-Gallic culture, just didn't think the Celtic influence was very strong by the 5th century. Plus I'm generally hard-pressed to consider them Celtic, at least fully, (same goes for Romano-British culture) due to, well, it being Rome and whatnot.

It's entirely relevant, prior to Caesar's invasion, there were probably very few if any Latins, Celts and Germans spread out and formed many kingdoms in plenty of territory, Latins did not.
