Another thing is that the issue is that with noir its more of a broad thematic element more than anything when it comes to actual writing. A simple detective story could be classed as it or even a RP with a seedy world could be considered noir. Its too common to see the limited noir RP's done on this site sticking to the genre archetype way too close and produce RP's set in the 1920s to 1950's and don't really expand on anything other than that, making everything very samey and uninteresting. Seen one seen them all type of thing.

In my opinion, setting is key for something like that, it gives the player more to work with when it comes to formulating their characters. Which can be difficult when its just set in some real world city with nothing put into it. Applying the thematic elements with a more rock solid genre such as cyberpunk, which has a lot of the staples of the noir setting with a solidly build world would make for a much more interesting setting. Even a neo-noir RP with a solidly build up world with seedy gangs and corruption would be much better, but that might just be because I dislike the era in terms of writing.

I feel like you are poking fun at my proposed Film Noir rp, lol.

On another note, i had an idea for an rp inspired by Sin City, it would be episodal. Each episode would follow a varying group of characters. some would be new, others would be recurring ones, there would be a chance for the characters to die. i may set it in a version of Cross Timber, Pennsylvania. (Which is a fictional city i made for a noir rp i never did, but i am using it in my current rp.)

think is, the term is so broad that even my Rp about purgatory would fit in it, even though the time is more victorian, than 1920s. I specifically made sure to not label it as noir.

Superhero RPs are rare. No one ever joins those.

Makes sense. There hasn't been a superhero movie since Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. Just like Mel Gibson had to hide his name in his projects though after Hollywood decided it hated him, I feel like some movie directors are sneaking superhero stuff into movies. For example Captain America: Civil War is supposedly a documentary about Native American involvement in the American Civil War, but if you look closely you'll notice that the main character has a lot in common with Captain America, a comic book character that last appeared in 1954.
