Yeah, I noticed that. Sometimes the thread fluctates between actual work and shitpost central. That's what happens when basically every other RP group on P2TM is dead or inactive.

I'm skimming the last couple pages for stuff for the "Upcoming" section.

Two RP suggestions and Benuty's RP that I keep forgetting to add to the OP.

It's a reference to the TV Show "Are you Afraid of the Dark?"

Which doesn't really make much sense considering I never watched the show.

Well the skill conversation doesn't make sense without context so here's my original idea.

Idea for a superhero RP. Yeah yeah lots of those. Dime a dozen. Only fantasy is more common at the moment. If there's one thing that sets it apart it's that the superheroes are kind of government agents. It's somewhat by DC's Suicide Squad and Marvel's Thunderbolts. It's also like Agents of SHIELD.

So in the backstory, people with great powers and abilities appeared on Earth decades ago. At first people were rightfully afraid of them, but against all better judgement they turned into superheroes. Campy 1950's superheroes. They had brightly colored spandex and everything. They spent their time leaving criminals tied up for the police, and also saving cats from trees and reading to sick children. The world came to love the heroes, who really were as ridiculously good as they seemed.

The government eventually came to believe however that society was too dependent on them, and that if anything happened to them there would be a societal collapse. The government thus decided to create a top secret project to artificially create superpowers and thus have government controlled superheroes to protect the country. The government experimented on the original heroes, which they allowed bros that they were, and eventually was able to create superpowers and give them to people. The new heroes weren't as powerful, but the project was largely a success.

Of course with the old heroes not going anywhere the government used its new heroes as black ops agents. It sent them on missions too dangerous for normal people. Eventually the missions became more and more questionable. The "superheroes" became death squads, and their missions became increasingly brutal as government officials realized how powerful their new weapons were. As a result the government decided to never reveal the existence of the government created heroes, as if word of their atrocities spread it could cause public outrage.

One government official realized how pointless this was, as the heroes were originally created to replace the spandex clad heroes in the event of their deaths. If their existence had to be kept from the public, then they wouldn't be able to reassure and protect the public if something happened to the original superheroes. Reminding his superiors of this he was given permission to create a special squad of heroes that could become public superheroes if the originals disappeared, fulfilling the project's original purpose. Secretly he despised the amoral actions of his colleagues, and he took great liberties in assembling his team.

One day the heroes really do mysteriously disappear. Not long after aliens/demons/alternate dimension people (working on it) attack. Turns out the original heroes were sent to Earth by the invaders to subvert humanity, but they broke free of their control and ended up as superheroes. Unfortunately the government accidentally copied the alien/demon/alternate dimension people mechanism of control when it was creating its own heroes based on the originals, and as a result all the government black ops teams join with the invaders. Society's last hope may rest with the newly assembled team, which is mysteriously immune to the control. Said team must fulfill its destiny as the replacements for the original heroes.

Just a few problems. The team was picked from individuals considered unfit for the black ops teams. In other words they're the superhero versions of failed Marines. They are largely cut off from a very strained government and are on their own. On top of having to deal with the largest threat humanity has ever faced, the heroes must be careful. People look to their actions for hope and inspiration. Are the new heroes to be respected? Loved? Feared? On top of this if the public ever learns the truth behind the government heroes it could turn against the government in a time where it's already heavily strained. It's not an easy task.

Not sure how popular a superhero RP where players are more like government agents than traditional superheroes would be, but it's worth a shot. The RP would be structured. It wouldn't be a wide open sandbox. Rather the players would go on missions. The plot and setting will change based on player action though.

Finally I'm considering adding gameplay to the RP. I don't think I'll go with a complex system involving rolls, but there may be stats and defined skills. Would players be interested in this or would a character RP focusing only on plot be better?

Thoughts?

I tend to develop interests in things where I will learn a lot about them and focus a lot on them. A few months ago I imagined all my RPs would be Star Wars but that doesn't sound as interesting now.

My RPs are rather different from each other at least. Infinites was in a radically different genre than Emergence and New Frontier.

Also I did that Assassin's Creed one remember?

Yeah but I made it all post-apocalyptic and Old Man Loganish.

I fell out of love with my own idea. Looking back I wonder why I wanted to make such a gritty story. If it doesn't seem gritty well it was going to get even worse.

Perhaps that Assassin's Creed's main reason why it failed because we used ancient period as the setting, or..?

Yes.

I think people were too spread out. Maybe it would have worked better with just one city, though that would have been more limiting.

I wish we had got Age of Villains to work, i liked that one.

To be honest it'll probably be the actual rendition of what I wanted to play out in GAU V1.

I think it would be cool to have a superhero RP where the characters are former villains that have reformed, perhaps involuntarily. Maybe their personalities were inverted. They now feel the uncontrollable urge to do good but maintain their villainous mannerisms, which turns them into horribly flawed heroes. Maybe it's all part of an evil plot. No idea how to set that up.

Can I get links to these? They sound interesting.

I suggested an idea like that earlier in my rp group, the idea was called Once We Were Villains.

V1 is dead as fried chicken, so is V2 and 2.?. V3 is still going, but from the way it looks, it might die out soon.
