So I am wondering, what could be a "happy ending" for each of your characters?

For Gabriel, it would might be to have someone who loves him for who he really is, to finish his great philosophical treatise (probably after experiencing some spectacular adventures), and maybe to actually get to attempt whatever social experiments he came up with for his dream "free republic" project.

Another possible ending I had in mind for Gabriel is that he is scapegoated for something in some kind of court intrigue and is assassinated by someone he previously trusted.

Maybe this will work. He can make some kind of heroic sacrifice that results in him suffering a slow and painful death at the hands of an assassin, but will have proven to himself that he is a good fairy tale prince despite his differences from the others.
