If you're looking to start out with his work, get Revelation Space, or House of Suns. They capture the essence of his writing style beautifully. Or get Blue Remembered Earth, it's one of his more recent works and is brilliant.

If you like a noir/Hard Science Fiction Space Opera cross-over you should go for Century Rain, it's a piece of artwork.

I don't particularly think the comatose Idea would work out too well. It would reflect badly on his strength, where-as a simple non-involvement on his part would explore his character a little better, as it is to some degree the way he is. If there is nothing in it for him, then he has no recent to take part in it. Even his 'helping' of those that don't want to fight is simply happening because it is necessary for his plan to work.

Well if you want to make Aigil you should be in the front lines. But I don't think Lis actually goes onto front lines.

As long as I know Aigil is not greedy. In one of the episodes(Where they go to 85 Level Boss and where Heathcliff vs Krito happens) Kirito actually says that Aigil used all(or most) of his money to help levelling people up. I don't know about Lis though
