I said that Scotland and Sweden formed an alliance so you could reclaim Skane and Norway? While I got The Faeroe Islands, and the Orkneys?

I recall discussing that an alliance was in the works, not that one currently existed.



Also . . Skane has been Swedish for well over a century even OTL, and Norway was acquired in the Great Northern War. The Orkneys have also been Scottish for centuries I believe.

Ahh, hmm. That does conflict rather badly with my history, unfortunately. The Shetlands I know were annexed peacefully to Scotland in the 14th or 15th century. You would not have had to fight a war to gain them.

Here is a Google Doc Map for the War of the First Coalition.

The players for France, Piedmont-Swiss, Austria, and Russia will be expected to place down their armies and shit on here. France is all blue and shit because they will be absorbing lands, so their annexations/occupations will be similarly marked.

Capitals of each nation are marked in order to create the layer for each player, and colors have also been distributed. This map is used mainly to ensure that players know what is going on. Sights of major battles may be marked just for reference.

Brief Description of your Economy: The Mexican economy is booming thanks to recent discoveries of Gold and precious minerals to the south. The free-market policies that have been employed are attracting numerous outsiders into Mexico. Down the social ladder, however, and things have not changed so much since after the Revolution. Poverty is rampant, and the sanitary conditions in the slums outside Mexico city, which itself is rapidly expanding due to employment in the new-fangled 'factories' funded by the King, are at best awful. The majority of exports are of Gold, Cocoa, Grain, Coal, Timbre and an assortment of Metals and Gems; the latter in small quantitiy.

History: The United States of Mexico is a collection of 16 states. The 14 that fought for independence against Spain are collectively called the 'People's land', while the 2 new colonies are called Kalifornia and Xavierland (New Mexico). The struggle took 4 years, started when a known inteletual Salvador Valdez returned from France after the French Revolution and under the his guidance, engaged in a long and bloody battle for independence. The final bastion of Spanish defence, Mexico City, was besieged for 2 years, while other cities capitulated, promised that if they do join the revolution, they would be guaranteed a seat in the Parliament. By 1784, the Mexicans managed to repel the 'dirty little spaniards' from Mexican shores, and within a week of gaining independence, the 14 Provinces got together and agreed to the formation of the 'United States of Mexico', led by Prime Minister Valdez. The monarchs were the former Governors of Mexico City, and Valdez allowed them to slip onto the throne left by the Spanish Viceroy, knowing that they'd have less power on the throne than when they were governors.

With the smooth establishment of the United States, the government had to cement itself from the threat of a possible Spanish/French invasion. A rapid establishment of the Federal Army, haphazzardly trained and equiped in weeks. And yet it would seem, that it did not happen. The military was slowly built and trained back up, and thanks to the exports of Gold, infrastructure that effectively belonged to the 5th century were replaced. The upper end of society prospered, enjoying what the Europeans had enjoyed for years.

The poor, however, got the shorter, more dirtier end of the stick. The living conditions were appaling, and slaved upon the plantations of the rich for measly earnings. They had to set something right, and on the 1st of January of 1790, more than 230,000 labourers from the surrounding countryside gathered inside Mexico City and demanded their right to free land. It would've been a much easier choice for the Prime Minister to have called in military assistance, but a large portion of the Federal Army had been sent to Kalifornia and Xavierland to protect the colonists. The local militia refused to open fire on their fellow people and, after hours of deliberation and calls by the top bougoise to deny the workers, the Prime Minister accepted the people's demand for land to work on.

Thousand acre properties were neatly divided among people into small areas, where the farmers could plant anything they wanted to, which was mostly tobacco thanks to the European demand. That wasn't to say that the Capitalists lost everything. The Prime Minister redistributed unused state lands among them and, thanks to the arrival of the factory, were able to essentially print money.

Those factories and the rich were few and far between, however, and the huge majority of people were contented with tending to their flock and sowing seeds under the brutally hot sun. Last year, Valdez had ordered, with overwhelming support from the parliament, that conscription was to be enacted, where one male above the age of 17 from each family was to join the Military for 3 years, as a member of the District Citizen Militia. This was in lieu of plans for an invasion of Central America. With Spain tied up dealing with rebellions, and Napoleon poised to take Europe by storm, it seemed the perfect opportunity to add another state to the United States.

@Byzantine app, I think you've got quite a lot of cannon. I count 1,150. I'd suggesting lowering it, maybe near the 400-500 area?

@Piedmont Swiss, that link you posted still has you having 10,000,000 people and Glitter mentioned something about how the bicarmel Republic is a bit too modern for a Government type.
