Skappola wrote:Petur Ingason. We're a cybersecurity and cybernetics company with plans to set up massive virtual worlds in which people can *upload* their minds to - under the full control of Voransky-Sung, of course. Here's the app:

Corporation Name: Voransky-Sung Corp.
HQ Location: (Officially) San Jose, California (Unofficially) Venice
Primary Source(s) of Revenue: Search Engines & Browsers (Ad Revenue), Cybersecurity, Computer OS & Other Software Sales, Data-center Operation, (Lesser Source) Pre-order Mind Uploading.
Size (Regional, National, or Multinational): Multinational
History and General Description: Voransky-Sung was co-founded in 2056 San Jose by the former Stanford professor Alek Voransky and his close friend and Hong Kong Institute of Technology University professor, Lai-Ying Sung. A small startup based around the newly created Vorsung search engine and web browser, the company grew very quickly early on. The Vorsung search engine was the only search engine at the time able to completely circumvent both Chinese and American surveillance and censorship. Voransky had previously served in the American NSA, and Sung served in a secretive branch of the Chinese Military which dealt with cyber-attacks and surveillance. Usage soon exploded within China, which was aggressively cracking down on "perverse and disloyal content." As a result, the US government began to aid the company in its dealings, expanding it substantially. Soon after, as civil unrest began growing in the US, the government began a secretive mass-censorship campaign. The Vorsung search engine soon exploded in popularity in the US - the government quietly withdrawing aid.

As many new developed nations began similar censorship programs, Voransky-Sung corp now found itself in an open war with the world's governments. During this period, the company began a period of rapid staff expansion and diversification of investments. Now controlling its own massive datacenters, Voransky-Sung recognized the danger of keeping such a large amount of dangerous information in the now-hostile US. The company, looking for a place to move, found an unlikely ally in the newly independent state of Venice, which was offering to allow construction of floating data-centers around the island. To minimize scandal, the company maintains an "official" headquarters in San Jose - which primarily serves as a recruiting center at this point.

Faction: Uploaders - The new CEO, Petur Ingason, is a major supporter of the Uploaders - as was Voransky before him. The company is simultaneously developing a practical implementation of both full virtual uploading and the Voransky process. Biological Ioading is lower-priority, but is expected to be relatively simple once the Voransky process is fully developed.
Subgroup (Optional): N/A, Voransky-Sung has a number of packages for offer.

Great. One last question. What procedure is required for the HIVE mind upgrade?

The HIVE runs off of a special cybernetic implant which both allows the user to directly share thoughts or even merge minds to some extent and subtly changes the brain of the participant over time to be more adjusted to life in the HIVE mind. The actual implant is relatively cheap compared to other implants, since its primarily communication-oriented, but it's still in very experimental stages. Because of this, and the fact that many governments openly oppose the implant, it's difficult to get a hold of unless you manufacture them yourself or, at least, have a good supplier.

You wouldn't have comic book zombies, obviously. They'd just function like regular human beings/soldiers/slightly-insane cult members. Also - remember that you don't yet have the full technology for regeneration. For now, you'd be more of a fanatical cult.

Why would the Greater German Regime support a random terrorist group in China?

Actually.... you never did answer my question

Just going off Mao's revolution, he had around 84,000 troops during the Long March. Because China's population was so much lower in the 1930s, is around 150,000 decent? You'll be expanding throughout the RP, of course.

In our neutral studies*, 9 out of 10 doctors agree: Voransky-Sung has the best and safest neuro-integrated products around! Do you want to get the inferior cybernetics, or do you want to get the best?

*Voransky-Sung Corporation does not hold "neutral" to mean "lacking in bias," but instead refers to the definition, "a neutral color or shade, especially light gray or beige." Any and all scientists in referenced Voransky-Sung Corporation study are to be wearing light gray or beige at all times.

My "obsession" drifts via Wikipedia links.

So last month it was the First Czechoslovak Republic.

Huh... so technically, the way to discern Hivemind from others (cyber or not) is to simply put them into a location where telecommunication signals cannot reach. That's a very convenient way to discover where rats of hivemind is... although in Korea, anyone who is not part of Danwol Group and yet uses cyber implants are generally frowned upon by general masses.

No, exactly my point. If you make an individual who is part of hivemind and isolate him/her by putting him/her in a heavy-metal containment and shoot disrupting signals at it, you can effectively sever connection of an individual of hivemind from the rest. If done so, then the individual would be standing helpless or in the state of panic as he/she is no longer connected to hivemind.

That... very effective way to figure out who is who. I like it.

Now mind you, no matter what you say you cannot get into Invatium's head honchos. They are freakishly zealous about being a biological. It isn't as much as a counter for you as much as it is a lore for them. They are biological supremacists (they have to be: all Koreans are racist at something), and anyone with decent clearance would have to have their cybernetic implants removed. And if anyone wishes to be in on the highest level decision making and highest level research, they would need to have never touched a cybernetic implants. Mind you, biological tinkering and making your brain capacity better is always an option that no one really cares whether you have done so or not ^^

... although... Danwol Group (which is SECOND strongest faction in Korea follow Inovatium) is biological uploaders, and their upper-level corporate executives always have some kind of cybernetic implants to connect them into a cybersphere. Of course, there are ways to be able to upload yourself into cyberspace without using implants (a practice common in Korean gaming industry in this timeline if I could say so myself), but I would see that the efficiency of constant connection would be appealing to uploaders like Danwol.

That's the beauty of brain implants! You can't see them from the outside. Unless you have like a USB port or something.

Other than that, the HIVE does not need " willing" recruits. Just people they dope into getting alone...
