"I hefted the SAW, "All I got is this, and I don't feel like bum rushing with a glaive, so your gonna have to sit tight." I glanced over to find Mother still malfunctioning, I frowned. I turned to the tree line and started taking potshots at anything that moved, and although I didn't know it at the time, the lack of light and the fires fucked with my vision, and I sent a burst straight at Alice.
Something that felt a lot like a huge hammer blow suddenly cleaned Alice's legs out from under her and she went crashing down in the dirt. She snarled something unintelligible, staggered to her feet, or tried to, before ending up fla on her face again. Then the pain set in, like someone had jammed a hot poker through her left calf. She gave a sob, then flicked on the radio, "I'm hit!" she gasped, "I'm..." she let it go, there were still bullets whizzing around. It was hard to focus, but she managed to put up a weak shield, extending in a low dome about a foot above her body. It would deflect stray bullets, but she doubted she could hold it against a concerted attack.
Why was she the one who always got shot, slammed against the floor, thrown down an elevator shaft, crushed under rubble...? She doubted there were many other meta-humans who had sustained quite so many debilitating injuries in the last five years. It really wasn't fair. She gave another sob, pulled out her cellphone. The mystery caller probably wasn't still on the line, though she didn't think to check, she just jammed the phone to her head, "Thank you for the assist stranger, but I've messed up..."
There was a snapping, crunching sound of something large pushing through the undergrowth - Shane. A bullet pinged off his shoulder, then he dropped down next to Alice, "Drop the shield Watcher, I'm getting you out of here."
Some distance away, Zara had been listening to what was going on through her radio, as well as watching Atlas, mostly in case he missed someone outflanking them. It never hurt to have a second pair of eyes. Her eyes widened as she put two and two together, "Allah be merciful... Atlas... I think that was you."
There was no accusation in her tone... if anything she sounded sympathetic. Zara had been around long enough to realize that, no matter how experienced a team was, blue-on-blue incidents happened.
Atlas
I frowned, "Shit." My radio chimed on, "Triglav, It's ball ammo so it'll just be a small tunnel, Just keep pressure on the wound." I fired another burst at another hostile, the the belt ended then. I was out of ammo, I looked down to find Mr. Tinman's sidearm, an HK45, I expected a laser pistol of sorts. I snatched it up despite his attempts to stop me, and began pulling ammo off his form, "Where is the wound located?"
Anathema
The thing is I honestly didn't do anything like that, you talked to me once and said, 'tell them to calm down a bit.' but that was probably a mistake, you know how many universes there are with you in them, things may have gotten jumbled a bit, hell you may be from a differing universe from the ones I nerfed.
