New Earth: Lost Hope(OOC-Worldbuilding, Open)

Postby Australian Antarctica » Thu May 28, 2015 3:50 pm

Backstory

The Year is 2040, or somewhere near that, in Earth years. The thing is, this isn't Earth. This is a new planet, discovered only 24 years ago by an American satellite. It was shown to have a similar, if not exact same, atmospheric make up. It appeared completely desolate, minus the flora and fauna that resembled earth's Scientist's were baffled and began tests to determine if it was fit for life and found that it was. An international task force of 2,000 men, women, and children was created in 2020 and sent to colonize the planet. Great breakthroughs in science allowed them to arrive within a couple months. By 2030, it had grown to a size of 500,000. That's right, 500,000 Humans, starting anew. On a new planet with little to no supplies. It took years, but by 2035, 12 large Cities and numerous other smaller towns were built. The planet was divided into 12 sectors, named after each city. Then, in 2037, war broke out on earth. Supply lines were cut and all communications were lost with their home. New Earth descended into anarchy shortly thereafter, with the different sectors forming their own 'nations' and trying to regain some sense of control.

Information

New Earth

New Earth is a planet in a neighboring solar system with an environment extremely similar to ours. It is roughly the size of the moon(3,700 Km) with many of the same elements, though with a far less amount. Oil is fairly hard to come by and water is somewhat scarce. A large portion of the planet is desert, and even has large swaths of tundra at the two poles.

Sectors/Cities
My Idea is that they are based off of real locations, at least in their naming and populace.

The first Sector to be founded, New Washington quickly became the unofficial capitol of New Earth. Populated almost entirely by Americans, it is also the largest of the Sectors. Naturally, the capitol and largest city is New Washington, with several other smaller towns dotting the surrounding countryside. Grasslands and Forests make up the majority of the Sector, with several lakes and rivers throughout. This makes it abundant in several resources.

Weapons
Just PMT, no FT. Need someone with good weapon knowledge and who is also creative.
Vehicles
^Ditto^
Resources
Kinda already mentioned, still need help

Well one of my resource consumption Rp's didn't do so well since everyone was going at different speeds, making resource consumption confusing, so what about like turn consumption? Like once everyone has played their turns (Or missed it for people who are unavailable) that's how much they've consumed, say each person consumes 2 units of food a weak, and 3 water, building cities/towns costs building resources (going into specifics would probably be a bit trouble some, so let's just say Building Supplies instead of wood, brick, stone, metal, etc) That being said, we'd need to have things in large scale.

So is this going to be a nation RP?

Also, the twelve sectors should have names reflecting the twelve strongest nations on Earth (since those nations are most likely to colonize another planet) and maybe even have multiple cities per earth country.

Hey OP. Tagging to assist in world building.

If you'd like references before letting me on site, would totally understand, let me know so I can drop names and links in your inbox.

Also, I'm pretty independent when left to my own devices. So I'll need a list of do's and dont's, as well a list of your expectations, so that I know how far I can go into the world building. We can do this over TG or in the OOC, which ever you prefer. Let me know your choice soon though.

Pretty much standard rules, don't change the story I've written so far, unless you have very good reasoning behind it, and don't be a jerk to others. That is all.

Tagging for help, since this could be very interesting. So judging by your story, the initial colonization effort of 500K formed the foundations of this world? The sectors would probably have a more or less homogeneous culture, then, correct?

I can certainly help with resources & the cities if you wish.

You are correct. I'd probably have the largest Sector be either China, Russia, or the US or UK.

Wondering if an armored vehicle based loosely off of the StuG series of tank destroyers/assault guns be all right. Looking for input.

For weapons, I was thinking of having some of the poorer Sectors use just modern weapons(M4s, M16s, AKMs, Etc.) but for the wealthier ones, they use futuristic weapons, like the XM8 series ish.

I don't think they would resort to older AK series weapons. Perhaps maybe AK-74Ms or AN-94s and the more expensive AEK-971 or AK-12.

True, AKs are not my specialty, that's my friend's department.

Is it fine for there to be a German city? I'd like to RP as it.
