The eternally flowing hourglass was designed by some of the inventors in the nation as to serve as a gift to the state of Badassistanian, commissioned by the Khan to symbolize their continued prosperity.

The ships quickly sink, with what's left of them making a desperate retreat for shore. Those that make it alert the land forces (not too many of them) to prepare to fight, and to prepare to die.

The villagers to the west surrender. There is still a good deal of discontent and resistance towards the strangers however.
