Government Info
Government Type: Right-wing Multi-Party Republic with military influence.
Brief Explanation of Government: The government is officially a multi-party republic, but this was largely ignored by the Kuomintang who formed a de facto single-party state until the Constitutional Convention. This lead to the establishment of a real democratic government, but it still angered the Communists. Seeing continued corruption and petty disputes among his staffer, Chiang suspended the constitution and led a series of government purges that eliminated much of the corruption but forever isolated the Western warlords. Now it is immediately following the purges, and it remains to be seen of Chiang will hold by the earlier promises of democratization.

The elite, usually coming from rich aristocrats, military officers, and ex-warlords has been declining in exclusivity following Chiang's purges.

Brief Description of your Economy: While in theory a capitalist mixed-market, the government has been continually seizing more and more property. The Second Sino-Japanese War forced the government to take over a plethora of industries and finance sectors to fight the war. Now, Chiang has been liberalizing the economy to bring in foreign investment and reduce corruption. Some industries are still government controlled, while a worrying infusion of government and corporation is being created elsewhere.
Goals:History: Following the fall of Japan, the ROC and PRC immediately resumed hostilities in the civil war. As the conflict was mostly left to isolated territory in the north, the rest of mainland China was allowed peace to mourn and grieve over the many dead. As the conflict in the north continued, Chiang recognized mainland needed protection to recover from the war. Following this, he retreated from Manchuria and Mongolia, letting the Communists take over, in order to pacify the population in the mainland and Taiwan. The western warlords nominally accepted ROC authority but in reality still ruled their provinces as petty fiefdoms.
- Unification of China
- Westernization
- Industrialization
- Democratization
As time went on, the government control of the economy led to increased corruption and formation of an oligarchy. The repression and ineptitude spread the popularity of Communism and put the entirety of China at risk to red incursion. To try and seek conciliation with the Communists, a Constitutional Convention was called. It established an official civilian government, including control over the military, while also allowing multiple parties to form. Angry at the prospect of losing popularity among the masses, the Communists rejected this and resumed the civil war. With no recourse, Chiang, who was elected President, suspended the Constitution and began mass purges of corrupt officials. The Western warlords declared independence, but Chiang ignored them and focused on clearing out the ruling elite in the ROC. Now, with all his enemies purged as well as the corrupt officers, Chiang stands at the forefront of a new China where his vision is absolute.
