Extremely limited deployment, only Victoria and Wharland has one, they're gigantic, impractical and not very powerful. Catapults and Trebuchets are far more common.

I would add that, for battles that the players can't agree on, the belligerents lay out their battle plans/relevant info and the community takes a vote based. At the least a third party could help resolve disputes.

I'd like to get going on our Battle at Brinehold. There's 5,000 infantrymen guarding 500 mounted knights (of high skill) and one million bushels of various food items. There's maybe 15,000-20,000 people within Brinehold, considering the number of peasants and soldiers. How many barbarians are nearby (in raided villages, attacking the walls, etc.)? Keep in mind, 1 infantrymen is worth about 2-3 barbarians in single combat skill, and the mounted knights are worth 10-20. But they'll have to continue to escort the food, so they'll be at a slight disadvantage there. The battle should be short and relatively uneventful, as we'll arrive in the middle of the night and drop off the food quietly, then the infantrymen will return to Wharland. The knights will remain.

I'd like to get going on our Battle at Brinehold. There's 5,000 infantrymen guarding 500 mounted knights (of high skill) and one million bushels of various food items. There's maybe 15,000-20,000 people within Brinehold, considering the number of peasants and soldiers. How many barbarians are nearby (in raided villages, attacking the walls, etc.)? Keep in mind, 1 infantrymen is worth about 2-3 barbarians in single combat skill, and the mounted knights are worth 10-20. But they'll have to continue to escort the food, so they'll be at a slight disadvantage there. The battle should be short and relatively uneventful, as we'll arrive in the middle of the night and drop off the food quietly, then the infantrymen will return to Wharland. The knights will remain.

Sorry for the delay, had some stuff to do last night. So some considerations for Brinehold; the area immediately surrounding the city for a couple of miles is full of swamps and marshes, which makes it a great place to be ambushed. Not a ton of area to maneuver off the main roads. It's currently being patrolled by siltstrider rangers but they are stretched very thin from fighting barbarian incursions, and are patrolling the swamps in groups of 20 to 30. I'm sure the barbarians will notice a great big supply caravan marching straight for the city and will start trying to pick off men going back and forth through the roads. If the Whalish make it inside with at least most of the supplies, the Caelish might want to try to attack at the following dawn or beforehand while the city is still relatively weakened by starvation and disease. That's up to The Nuclear Fist, of course.

Here's the best map I could pull for a Brinewall representation. The only real difference is that there isn't a complete moat around the city, just the river at its back. The farmland between the outer and inner walls would be covered in pitch and set aflame in the event that an invader pierced the first wall, but that would risk burning the whole city down, not to mention destroy the only way Brinewall has to make its own food.

There's no reason to suggest that a single knight was worth twenty barbarians. Barbarians weren't trained soldiers yes, but they weren't that bad.

There are about forty thousand barbarians near Brinehold, led by Angus the Cael. Angus is wanting to end the siege of Brinehold as quickly and bloodlessly as possible, so he can move against other fronts. A few dozen warbands are being sent to flush any enemies out of the swamps and act as a scouting force for enemy units and supply caravans. The main force, under Angus, is has massed and is about five hours' ride from Brinehold proper, having spent the better part of several weeks raping and pillaging the countryside for supplies and loot.

A force of five thousand cavalry will be traveling ahead of the main warband to scout ahead and destroy any supply caravans and isolated enemy units. The warband will arrive in full force with about three thousand peasants taken captive and marched in front of the warband. Angus will send a messenger to deliver his terms. If they aren't met, the peasants will be slaughtered in front of the gates. Alongside Angus are two small catapults, which will be used to fling to corpses and rocks over the wall. Once the slaughtering has been done, the assault will begin.
