Intro:
Magic is a special and rare art, practiced by the few with the natural gift to use it. It is either a scared miracle, an science, or perhaps a bit of both depending on how you look at it. However true magic, regardless of its source, is learnt and earned rather than simply given to you. It takes considerable training and effort to fully comprehend and control the magic within oneself. It takes a certain person to completely master their magic. Especially in this modern era where magic is so widely known yet so poorly understood.

That was why the Advanced Mage Academy was set up. To find those with the most potential for great magic and train them. The AMA only accepts students from the individual branch schools that teach unique schools of magic.

The AMA also makes a point of training and finding those few students who manage to manifest a familiar. These beings are spiritual in nature, and form a contract with specific individuals of their choosing. It was once a garentee that great things would come of a wizard, though since Familiars have become more common it’s not a surefire sign of success.

Though not many get into the academy, it's often the case that only time an patience will improve their magical powers. However magicians also gain power much quicker through fighting monsters, though this is an incredibly dangerous thing to attempt as monsters can be exceptionally deadly and the more you improve the more dangerous monsters you would have to fight, something no one would even attempt without a familiar. This is why the Monster Hunter Club was established, taking promising students and putting them on a fast track to success or death and also ridding the world of a few monsters at the same time. It's been accused of being a slaughterhouse, but few can argue with it's results.

Image
0: Completely unable to use this sort of magic. You might be aware of it, but you’re not able to actually use it (Note that all magic applications within your school and source are automatically 1)
1-4: You are able to use this magic on a very small scale, almost not noticeable in it’s effects. For example, with fire magic you would be able to light a match and you are able to sustain fires for about 1-4 seconds. For healing you would be able to repair a small cut with some time, and with Telekinesis you would be able to move a small baseball with a little force. With Divination you would be able to predict small details or vague statements.
6-8: You’re able to use this magic on a slightly larger scale, though this is still basically street magic.
Fire: You would be able to create a small ball of flame which you can sustain for half a minute. You would be able to gain a slight resistance to fire too.
Healing: You would be able to repair a large cut in about a day.
Telekinisis: You can now lift the weight of a bowling ball.
Raising Undead: You can now animate a small animal, like a rat or a bird.
9-12 This is where things start to get a little interesting. Not only are you more skilled in this magic, but you’re beginning to find more ways to use it. Still this is rather weak for even student mages.
Fire: You can now use fire to create smoke. You can now also create a larger ball of fire (The size of a beachball), cause wood to spontaneously combust and you are now highly resistant to heat and fire.
Healing: You can now reduce the pain an individual takes. You can repair bones (Though it takes several days) and heal cuts faster (Now down to about 5 hours)
Telekinesis: You may now pick up things about the weight of two chairs.
Metaleokenisis: At this point, you should be able to warp and bend metal a little with considerable difficulty. You are also able to lift four chairs worth of metal
13-16: This is about the average level for most magic students. The bare minimum one needs to achieve for any advanced magic school. Much less the Academy, which needs three magics at least in this range.
Fire: You can now set fire to an area of roughly 5 feet, in radius, around you. You can conjure fireballs that create 3 feet explosions. You can also now control ash.
Healing: You can now use your healing ability at range, you’re able to repair bones in a day, able to heal large cuts in an half hour. You’re able to numb pain to the point where even very deep wounds cause little pain.
Telekinisis: You’re now able to lift the weight of four large tables.
Earth Manipulation: You should be able to lift the weight of a large boulder.
17-20: Above average for magic students and the bare minimum for the academy, this is just average for most adult mages however, a testament to the high expectations of the academy. This is quite the jump however.
Fire: You are now able to conjure constructs of flame. You are able to summon tiny elementals and have the destructive capability to blow up a house.
Healing: You are now able to heal most cuts in a matter of minutes. Broken bones in an hour tops. You are able to completely numb pain and even affect the adrenalin production of the body. However you can still only heal one person at a time.
Teleknisis: You can now lift cars with your powers. You’re able to crush brick with concentrated telekinetic force too.
Fae Condtion: You are now faster than the average cat and have their reflexes too.
21-25: Fairly bellow average by academy standards, but still rather above average for most.
Fire: You’re able to summon small elementals. You are completely immune to your own fire and resistant to the flames of others. You can now blow up a small building.
Healing: Most surface cuts now heal in a second, while larger and deeper cuts heal in five. Broken bones can now take about twenty minutes to heal and you can now heal two people at the same time at half efficiency.
Telekinesis: You can now lift a truck with your powers.
Sanguine combat: Your own blood now regenerates quickly, and you can now drain the blood of living animals remotely.
26-30: Average for Academy students, though still rather unimpressive. Though you have now left the mages first ring, which is impressive.
Fire: You are now able to blow up two small buildings with your fire. It now has the intensity and heat to melt through metal.
Healing: You can now heal four at a time at half efficiency and two at full. You can also now start curing diseases with your healing.
Telekinesis: You can now pick up the mass of a house and toss it.
Spirit communication: You may now talk to spirits who have died in the last hundred years. The older a spirit is the more powerful it will be. Spirits of half your level will help you fight and spirits of your level can give passive help such as advice and suggestions.
31-34: Slightly above average for Academy students,
Fire: You can now blow up a large building. Your flames can punch through tank armour and your elementals are now large in size
healing: You can now heal a group of ten at full capacity, and twenty at half.
Telekinesis: You can now pick up things the mass of two houses
Illusions: You can now craft very convincing illusions which even manage to fool senses other than sight.
35-38: Above Average for Academy students,
Fire: Your fire can now Blow up a very large area. Your flames can also now
Healing: You can now heal someone with fatal wounds to the point where they can fight again at full capacity in two minutes. You can heal forty people at once of lesser wounds.
Telekinesis: You can now pick up something with a little more than the the weight of a small building
39-42: The level of the high achievers in the Academy
Fire: You can now blow up A whole city block. Your elementals are simply huge, about the size of most buildings.
Healing: You can now heal someone with fatal wounds to the point where they can fight again at full capacity in thirty seconds (Although certain conditions you may have trouble with, like petrifaction, poison, and other such things). You can heal a hundred people at once of lesser wounds.
Telekinesis: You can now pick up the weight of two small buildings. You can also focus your telekinesis into kinetic blasts now.
43-46: The level it takes to actually get noticed among the thousands of students of the academy,
47-50: Minimum level for a teacher and the level of most demons.
51-54: Average level for a guildmage.
55-60: Average level for a teacher
60-65: Above average for a teacher
66-70: High ranking guild members
71-78: Guildmaster level magic
79-85: The Level of the current headmaster and several teachers at the academy
86-94: Nearing Archmage level magic
95-100: Archmage Level magic, the current magic record for a student at the Advanced Magic Academy is 100
100-120: The level of the big three of magic (The Leaders of the three most influential guilds)
121-150: The level of the Mage kings of yore.
151-180: Demon Dukes and Duchesses
181-200: The level of the most powerful mage currently alive.
201-300: Demon Princes and Princesses are at this level, as well as most of the individuals of the Fae Court
301-400: The level of the archdemons of the abyss and the four horsemen, as well as the Kami and multiple other entities.
401-500: The level of truly legendary mages, Merlin for example,
500-1000: Not much is know about beings with this level of magic. Though it’s best to stay away from them.

Familiars:
Familiars are part reality and part myth. Given flesh and form by our magic and our will, they take the form of our greatest legends. They apear to be, for all intents and purposes, almost reincarnations of those legends.

Must be someone who has died or from myth. You can make this person up or use a famous figure from history, or even Myth. They will fight for you in battle, usually following their masters orders.

So this isn't completely finished yet. I could use help in expanding the world a tad, getting up a manual of monsters, fleshing out the mechanics, finishing the stats. Plus some specifics on the monster hunter club need to be added.

Plus I want magical school ideas. I want more magic schools to be available to the players, even more than we have now.

Feel free to post any suggestions. Once we feel this is more complete, I'll transform it into an OOC and get the IC rolling.

150 for all magic and 34 per skill.
180 with 38 being the limit
While for a teacher, it would be 65 per skill and 300 in total.

Familiars:
Second year: 30 limit and 6 for each attribute
Third Year: 34 limit and 7 for each attribute
Teacher: 60 limit with 9 per attribute

How exactly do magic sources and magic schools differ and interact? Like, do magic sources power your magic or something?

Magic sources are both the source of your power and your view on magic (So if you used devine magic, you would take a religious view on your magic, if you thought it was metaphysics you would view it as science and with arcane you would view it as... well magic (It's own entity with its own rules). Really schools are really the type of magic you were brought up learning.

They may interact later down the line and unlock some sort of power based on both choices, but so far they're somewhat separate.

Alright, some of these schools seem like they would need particular sources though, like say druidism, oracle teachings and shamanism are religious beliefs for example. Are their going to be restrictions like that?

Not necessarily. The schools of magic aren't religious organisations, and tend not to indoctrinate people into their beliefs (most of the time...) They just really teach you how to use magic.

For example, you could view druidism through the lens of science, seeing that nature is needed for life and therefore valuable. Or you could have a biologists appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.

Really if you can justify picking a metaphysical oracle than it will work.

Well, you would have to spend no points on any other magic, and there will be caps on the amount of points you can spend on each skill at the start.

Though, from there, whenever I give you points you could just sink most of them into summoning.

Edit: Charm can I have magic cards? like Card captor style? that'd be sweet.
