EARTHQUEST
A Turn-based Alien Invasion RP

Introduction

So are you an outcast from some intergalactic empire? Found yourself on the lowest, unclean caste of a crazy cargo cult? Want to make a quick buck or claim major fame and glory among your well-to-do friends? Well, guess what!? World conquest is for you! Sure... you can just be like the billions of other losers pretending to be 'pioneers' rotting away in uninhabited rocks or gas giants; but imagine a life of action, adventure, and wiping/enslaving/eating a pack of primitive inhabitants on a richly laden planet! But where're you going to find one so far out in the Milky Way?

Image

Bingo! Third rock from that bright yellow sun! It looks green and blue, full of water and carbon to harvest and sell on the intergalactic market, plenty of unique lifeforms for all those zookeepers and nature nerds who like to study on animals. Best of all, there appears to be some pink bipedal creatures possessing some form of intelligence. Wonder what you could do with them?... In any case, what're you waiting for!? Hop on in to your massive big-ass spaceship and start carving out your place in the sun! What's the worst that could happen?.

Synopsis

You are a contestant in the latest season of one of the universe's most popular and watched reality holovision shows ever, PlanetQuest, the famed game show which throws would-be invaders into the life of a world conqueror, subjugating natives in a remote planet for a chance to call the shots at your own spot in the universe. Owned by the indomitable holovision network and corporate nation-state, ArcCorp, PlanetQuest is hosted by an Eccentric Cat-Like figureand CEO of ArcCorp, [NAME REDACTED]. With minimal resources and weapons at your disposal and your hilarious exploits watched by billions across the galaxy, your group will be thrown to a long-abandoned resort planet in the one of the most backward fringes of the galaxy, Gaia (Earth). But no group of contestants have ever won on PlanetQuest before, and the bets heavily weighed on your spectacular failure. Can you beat the odds and claim your place in the sun against a pack of primitive apes, or will your hastily mangled bodies be broadcast to the perverse enjoyment of thousands of worlds? You decide...

  • Take control of a member of a group of alien adventurers seeking to become warlords of their own part of the universe.
  • Manage a small base and army (either robots or fellow adventurers) established on the planet and build it up as a frightening horde to conquer Earth
  • Engage in diplomacy with both alien and human factions in an attempt to obtain meagre resources, support and subterfuge.
  • Fight amongst yourselves for the top spot of Generalissimo
  • Do whatever the hell you want in your ill-gotten lands (so long as you don't anger the Mod-Gods) -
    • Build a religion or personality cult your human subjects
    • Clear the land for colonists
    • Enslave humans for labor or pleasure (if you're that huge a sexual deviant)
    • Eat them (they taste like space chicken... I think...)

Gameplay

The RP will play out similar to the Original PlanetQuest thread, with a few changes. The RP will be turn-based, where players argue for the group to make choices depending on the resource cost and possible outcomes they desire for each turn, which tentatively spans a month. The aim for the group as the whole is obviously to take over Earth, but keep in mind that there can be only one head, and if you're ambitious enough, you can - and should - plot to take control of your motley band with your fellow conspirators, and watch your back for anyone wanting to bump you off. If you're less keen on being the warlord of the planet, you can just place your lot with whoever seems likely to become the head in the end. It's entirely up to you.

Outcomes for both conquest events and player-initiated plots will be determined by RNG rolls by the OP (unless you can suggest a better system), playing as the Gamemaster, which will be RPed out. IC reactions are optional, but recommended (which can play to your advantage in bumping off players you don't want). Charisma actions are the only exceptions to RNG rolls, which only affects non-boss NPCs. Convincing player characters and boss NPCs, on the other hand, requires language skills, in the form of your post.

Traits

Traits determine the probability of a certain individual action turning out successful, as well other miscellaneous abilities such as damage, carrying capacity and negotiation with non-boss characters. Note that these traits are effectively disabled against player characters and boss NPCs under the control of the OP, and would require writing skills to advance your character's aims.
  • Strength (STR) - How powerful is your punch/bite/kick. Boosts melee damage and carrying capacity
  • Toughness (TGH)- How much you can stand poison/disease/fatigue/bruising. Increase survivability. Less prone to illness.
  • Dexterity (DEX) - How fast you are. Boosts speed and dodge chance.
  • Intelligence (INT) - Can you into smart? Boosts research rate and more dialogue choices. Boosts ranged Damage
  • Charisma (CHR) - How well can you speak to NPCs (and players)? Relations bonus with factions and more dialogue choices.

Inventory

  • Weapons - Effects only take place when in combat. Bonuses granted will be removed against enemies of a different type than what the weapon is designed for. Costs will remain in combat regardless of opponent.
    • Melee (boosts STR vs Infantry)
      • Light - Daggers, knives (+1 STR), suitable for DEX and INT users.
      • Medium - Short Swords, Single Axe (+2 or +3 STR, -1 DEX)
      • Heavy - Long Swords, Polearms, Hammer (+3 or +4 STR; -1 TGH, -2 DEX)
    • Ranged (boosts INT vs Infantry)
      • Short Range - Pistols (+1 INT)
      • Medium Range - Carbines, SMG (+2 INT), Assault Rifles (+3 INT, -1 DEX)
      • Long Range - Sniper Rifles (+5 INT, -1 TGH, -3 DEX; bonus reduced to +1 INT vs light vehicles)
      • Machine Guns - SAW (+4 INT, -2 TGH, -2 DEX, bonus reduced to +1 INT vs light vehicles) or GPMG (+6 INT, -3 TGH, -4 DEX, bonus reduced to +1 INT vs light vehicles)
    • Rocket Weapons (boost INT vs vehicles, depending on type)
      • Anti Tank - RPG, Recoiless Rifles (+4 or +5 INT against ground vehicles, -2 TGH, -2 DEX, bonus reduced to +1 INT for air vehicles)
      • Anti Air - Stinger (+4 INT or +5 against air vehicles, -2 TGH, -2 DEX, bonus reduced to +1 INT for ground vehicles)

Actions

Individual Actions
Individual actions are performed by your characters and may be done multiple times, depending on the situation. Your stats would determine the probability of success, as well as the degree of success an action achieves. Be warned, that your probably of success will be lowered due to the stats of your opponents, depending on their actions, so choose wisely.

Shiori, armed with a titanium blade (light melee weapon), is being attacked by a slime (all stats are 0). What will you do?
  • [ ] - Attack head on (melee) - Chance: 16% (STR - 2 x 1 = 16%)
  • [ ] - Dodge around it for a hit (melee) - Chance: 5.33 + 16 + 18.67 = 40% (STR - 16/3 = 5.33%, DEX - 48/3 = 16%, INT - 56/3 = 18.667%)
  • [ ] - Block - Chance: 32% (TGH - 32% chance of damage reduction)
  • [ ] - Try to flee (instinct or tactics) - Chance: 48% or 56% (DEX - 48% or DEX - 48/2 = 24%, INT - 56/2 = 28%)

*NOTE: 1 Point is equal to a 8% boost in chances. Making 100% success rates completely impossible. Sorry Min Maxers. Also, equipment will provide various stat boosts depending on their design.

Faction Actions
Faction actions are performed at the beginning of each turn, and would determine the overall success of your mission. For a faction action to be performed, a consensus among those who responded after the choices are presented must be reached among the group regarding the action. This is determined by a majority vote, in which players may argue for their chosen course of action. If no consensus is reached for an extended period of time, the OP reserves the right to step in and mediate, which may or may not result in the worst course of action possible.

[quote]So here it is... Gaia, Terra or whatever that host called it. Now then... Where to start our new base?

  • [ ] - That icy wilderness up north seems remote enough. Also, that glowing red light down there beckons me... I feel... jolly... (North Pole)
  • [ ] - Let's try that messy green mass in the middle of nowhere. Seems very undeveloped. We might even be able to find natives primitive enough to manipulate. (Central America)
  • [ ] - I want those small patches of dirt in all that H2O! (Pacific)
  • [ ] - Screw hiding! We will go boldly and demand their immediate surrender! Or... ask nicely... (Europe)
  • [ ] - Hmm... Maybe we should try somewhere else... (Suggest a different location)

Most choices will cost money, materials and/or fuel, so be careful when agreeing on a choice.

Research and Miscellaneous Options
Research and miscellaneous options are faction decisions as well, but you can perform more than one research and miscellaneous option at one time. However, you will need a consensus from everyone on what to do before I post the results. You pick a person to work on the research or the action (if required) and if there is a time cost to it, that base cost will be reduced based on that character's stats as highlighted. Getting more people to work on the action will further reduce the time cost by summing up the stats of the researchers, but it will not reduce money or matter expenses.

You may also refuse to do any of the options and just go for the main action (what to do in the turn itself), but being inactive has its own costs.

(credits to Esternial for the update)
Faction Types

  1. Organic
Rather than rely on technology, these aliens primarily employ their own innate abilities to give them an edge in combat. They are often more adaptable than others and utilize Biomass to produce new spawn or organic structures.
  2. Technological
A very broad term ranging from grey aliens wielding advanced plasma blasters to brains encased deep in sheets of armor or simply remote-controlled robotic minions. These aliens do not adapt, and thus do not require Biomass and instead use Materials to construct units and buildings

Resources

Being dirt poor, your group will start out with very minimal resources, with a set number of credits to purchase mercenary or advanced weapons, as well as earthly resources such as fuel and metals.
  1. Biomass (Organic only)
Acquired from pretty much all forms of organic life, it is used by Organic Alien Factions to create new units or buildings.
  2. Materials (Technological only)
Different metals and other materials gathered from human structures, etc. and used by Technological Alien Factions to create new units or buildings.
  3. Fuel
    Charcoal, hydrocarbons, uranium cells, ...
Used by both factions to power buildings, war machines/creatures (reflected in building costs).
  4. Money
Credits: Intergalactic moolah. Use it to buy hi-tech stuff, purchase off-world materials or hire thugs you can't access on Earth (at least early on). Also used for research on alien tech.
Bullions: Shiny precious metals that humans seem oddly attracted to. You won't know how valuable they are initially, but when you do, be sure to use them to buy off native merchants for materials or hire local mercenaries (and maybe bribe politicians in a choice or two).
Can only be used for research on human tech, if you have the relevant local brains on your side.

Technology

At the start of the RP, your group will begin with only the most basic infantry and weapons to begin your takeover of Earth. As such, you will need to your way up the technology ladder to upgrade your military capabilities, spending credits to fund research on alien research. In addition, given the vast distances between Earth and any weapons depot open for purchase, you may also spend bullions on more mundane human weapons like a cannon or a rifle. While likely not as strong or flashy as alien technology, it would help even the odds in your favour at a more reasonable cost.

Factions

More information will be available as the IC progress... Note that until a specific human faction is discovered, a player's character cannot express knowledge of it. Such action is liable for a warning by the OP, which may result in his or her expulsion from the RP. All alien factions are assumed to be 'discovered' and may be interacted from the start of the RP.

Aliens

ArcCorp

  • CEO: 'Boss'
  • Important Characters: Neko-mé (Host of PlanetQuest), Lilith (Security Director)
The brains behind the hit game show PlanetQuest, ArcCorp is famed for its creation and subsequent monopoly over the interstellar holovision industry. Known for its ruthless hostile takeovers of debt-ridden planets to fund the universe's ever-growing lust for mindless entertainment, ArcCorp's current headquarters in Alpha Centauri has often come under constant protests and riots by activists berating its draconian practices. PlanetQuest, in particular, is a serious issue of contention, as sentient rights advocates lambast its trivialization of conflict and suffering for the viewing pleasure of its unsavoury audience. Despite this, ArcCorp continues its programming of bloodletting media without fail, pushing PlanetQuest to its tenth season with Earth as its newest target.

Friends of the Stars

  • Leader: TBA
    Important Characters: TBA
Animal-loving hippies with a fanatical belief in the rights of primitive intelligent species, Friends of the Stars is a strong lobby in the interstellar community in the dismantling of ArcCorp's menu of gladiatorial-style entertainment. Vocal about the media giant's use of rare, endangered animal species, bottom-rung members of society, and other unwitting participants in its gruesome feature of blood sport, Friends of the Stars have, of late, even resorted to eco-terrorism to get their way, disrupting live shows with bombings, shootings and civil disobedience. Of all the shows blacklisted by the group, PlanetQuest lies right on top for its despicable depiction of war as entertainment and its horrific consequences to its unwitting populations. To that end, they would even aid natives in boosting their technology in surviving against ArcCorp's contingent of 'stage clowns' (you), and attempting to coerce the contestants to revolt against the cameras. For now, however, ArcCorp's legal team had firmly pinned down the Friends of the Stars as a terrorist cell, with proceedings due to be finalized during PlanetQuest's tenth season. But it would not be likely that these hippies would give up trying to wreck your dream of world conquest. Perhaps killing a few of them might convince the host to throw you a bone or two...

Applications

Players may only field one character at any point of time. If a character has died in the course of the IC, his player is not allowed to send another. He may still participate in discussion in the RP, post side stories, or control human factions if the OP allows, but he would no longer be allowed to reenter EarthQuest as an alien contestant.

G-Tech Corporation
as
Garasove Mas'ameral
Character Information
Name: Garasov Mas'ameral
Age: 712 Rotations of age is Garasov; in local years of the planet Earth, he possesses approximately one thousand three hundred and twenty nine millenia of existence as one of the Choir.
Species: Singer
Appearance: In a curious case of parallel evolution, the Precursors from who the Singers are derived strongly resemble the humans of this world. Garasov's most favored physical form is that of his pre-Upload body, shown here.

Statistics Description
Speciality (e.g. Navigation, Research, Ship/Mech/Plane Piloting): Mass Coordination and Fabrication
Basic Statistics
  • Strength: 2/10
  • Toughness: 5/10
  • Dexterity: 2/10
  • Intelligence: 10/10
  • Charisma: 6/10
Items (up to three):
- Flowmetal Composition: Garasov is composed, in his entirety, of a demiplanar material known as flowmetal. Given time, he can and will repair damage to his person, and convert surrounding baryonic matter to his uses.
- Distributive Psyche: The Singer, as all of his race do, possesses no central nervous system. Indeed, his mind exists merely as a ghost-in-the-machine of his flowmetal body, and as such can expand, subdivide, or contract as the dictates of the flowmetal latticeworks make necessary.
- Cognatus: With Garasov, in a large sphere the size of a ripe Psarmelon of silvery metal, Garasov bears the mind of his former vessel, the Blacknight. Though it no longer possesses the untrammeled cognitive capabilities of the Fist it once operated, the Blacknight is a staunch ally of his, and their friendship means he salvaged her when the vessel itself was lost.

Physical Description (Optional)
Height: Variable. Stands about two point one central meters, as the intergalactic community measures them.
Weight: Surprisingly light for his volume, he masses in at a mere seventy two kilograms.
Likes: Tasty matter, fine alcoholic beverages, carbon-based lifeforms with his tea. Plays a mean sitar, enjoys fiddling in front of fires, preferably infernos. Has a streak of melancholy and brutality.
Dislikes: Wishy-washy races, individuals who do not live up to their potential, MASCAR, those who do not understand the proper value of vestments.
Personality: He needs a hat, and by tarnation, this new world had better have one. Quiet in general, preferring to keep his own counsel, but a rather boisterous drinker when he chooses to absorb the booze. Goal-driven, and innovative, Garasov believes every situation has a favorable outcome; in his mind no-win scenarios do not exist. He looks forward to forging a new life on this world, and once he hacks out a tolerable personal fief, looks forward to finally composition his opus. Nine times out of ten, Garasov believes in attaining via guile what can be taken by force; he also casually worships the deity of the Choir, the All-Sire, but isn't nearly as fanatical as most of his brethren, due to more time spent in the field.

History
Bios:
Garasov was once a respected commander and admiral within the Choir Tenebris', heading the West Arm Home Fleet aboard his flagship, the Blacknight. During his time he saw the suppression of eighty two potential interstellar flareups, the Seeding of one hundred and fourteen worlds, and the erasure of seven races of Potentials that had been deemed beyond bringing to the Light. Many of his expeditions saw him travel deep in to the recesses of the void with only a half dozen other Singers for company for many rotations of the Prime, and thus he grew farther and farther apart from what could be considered orthodox thought upon Holy Riva. Eventually his heretical ideas, such as individual power and a nominal instead of realized power for the Cardinals, brought him in to direct conflict with the Grand Choir, but through several popular speeches he escaped censure. Thence he was assigned by the Praternum Techsina, by his enemies within it, to catalog the formation of Planetary System X13J-7782-a:1, which was just in its infancy. Under the supposition that this was a routine Survey, the Blacknight approached the star, after which point a hidden sigma device was detonated, sparking the collapse of the nascent stellar furnace in to a singularity. With the Drives for the Blacknight unable to activated due to the mass signature, Garasov took only a small Eye and fled with the gestalt of his proud vessel, escaping the trap even as the one-time pride of the West Arm Home Fleet succumbed to the gravitational stresses. He fled, knowing not who to trust after such an incident, eventually making his way across most of the galaxy, here, to where EarthQuest was being held.

Additional Information (Optional): - Garasov changes form frequently; I'll try to ensure I furnish a full description when necessary.

XNGEC-1
Character Information (Compulsory)
Name: XNGEC-1 (Experimental Next-Generation Enforcer Commander), likes to be called Jester or the Black Scythe.
Age: 22
Species (must not be full Homo Sapien): Genetically engineered, no exact species
Appearance (picture link is preferred): The Black Death. Jester's organic body is physically integrated with cybernetics, nanotechnology, and muscle enhancers to make the best out of his already impressive strength-wise body. Jester under his protective armored suit doesn't really have exposed skin, as even more protective removable armor plating was put over his skin to ensure the maximum protection from attacks.

Statistics Description (25 points to dispense, will be automatically assigned if blank)
Speciality (e.g. Navigation, Research, Ship/Mech/Plane Piloting): Military strategy and tactics, overall commanding
Basic Statistics
Strength: /10, 5/10
Toughness: /10, 5/10
Dexterity: /10, 3/10
Intelligence: /10, 8/10
Charisma: /10, 4/10
Items (up to three):

Medical foam, more commonly known as Medifoam, is an all-purpose medical salve combining an anesthetic and clotting agent used by paramedics, the military, and doctors It heals various wounds and ailments, instantly sealing injuries against infection and allowing for rapid healing by having the gel grip tight to flesh until subjected to a frequency of ultrasound. It is sealable against liquids - most notably blood - as well as contaminants and gases.

The DG-3 Electricity Flamethrower, known as the Lightning Gun, is a flamethrower that uses electricity in the form of an arced projectile like napalm flamethrowers to kill droves of enemies at one time. The weapon was banned from sale indefinitely following the Red Scythe's indiscriminate murdering of civilians on Tyranus with the devastating gun.

The Psyche-Strategy device is a unique device invented by the Finance Guild for use by General Jester and his Enforcers. The device is intended to maximize tactical and strategic level coordination and effectiveness by enabling the user to remotely provide a boost to fighting ferocity and effectiveness to troops on the frontline.

Physical Description (Optional)
Height: 6'1
Weight: 150 pounds
Likes: The smell of napalm, indiscriminate destruction, war
Dislikes: Peace, cuddly-looking animals and people, cats or cat-like people
Personality: Jester is quite the warmonger. This is to be expected, as he was practically raised and bred for war, to serve in the Finance Guild's Enforcers. However, he is quite humorous and intelligent, making him more of a strategist or tactician than a front-line soldier.

History (Compulsory)
Bios: XEC-1 was born in a test tube genetics facility in a planet somewhere not where anybody would be liable to look for anything. A large and influential business organization/government, the Finance Guild, funded the effort to create him so he could become the future leader of the Finance Guild's armed forces. Jester's childhood was very tough, being trained night and day for combat and leadership, not even getting the chance to make friends and socialize. Cooped up in a small room and a training facility all day didn't really prepare you for contact with the outside world. Despite his misgivings about involuntarily being held prisoner, Jester grew up to be a skilled military leader, fighter, and shrewd businessman, and left the facility for good when he was 19.

It was at this time that XEC-1 was put in command of a small invasion force attempting to "persuade" the government of the planet Tyranus to pay up in taxes. The planetary government resisted fiercely, making progress slow. Immediately after he arrived to take control of things, a genocide was enacted on the planet's population, killing hundreds of millions of people, under XEC's orders. The Guild's leadership paid no mind if it meant they'd get their money in the end and gave him a free hand to do whatever he wanted in his campaign.

The cities of Tyranus were leveled to the ground and the survivors mercilessly executed, people rounded up into camps, killed, and then put into mass graves. By the time Tyranus surrendered to the Guild and agreed to sign a heavily one=sided contract, 753 million people were reported killed by Guild forces and trillions of dollars of damage inflicted on the planet. Jester was feared by both his own men and his enemies and known as the "Black Scythe" or "Butcher of Tyranus". As a reward for his 'valiant service' on Tyranus, he was put in command of the Finance Guild's Enforcer Corps. Even more death and destruction was put on planets that couldn't pay up, all done by the hands of the Red Scythe. With the ascension of new leadership in the Guild and an interstellar investigation on the Guild's war crimes, the Red Scythe was listed as a war criminal, totaling nearly 2.8 billion people killed and countless more wounded or missing at the hands of his Enforcers.

Jester fled from his post when he heard the news and hid for months before finally arriving on the game show PlanetQuest.

Additional Information (Optional): - Jester likes cream pie. One time, he threw a cream pie into a person's face then crushed the same person's head with the pan. Already dislikes the plant person the plant people sent to the show.

  • Dexterity: 1/10
  • Intelligence: 8/10
  • Charisma: 1/10

His personal fighter

Height: 7ft 11inch
Weight: 28 stones
Likes: Adventure, discovery, music, isolation, pain, suffering, politeness, other Harmony and learning
Dislikes: Lack of adventure, silence (few things don't have a song, he hates these things), idiocy, lack of manners, those who mock the Harmony, jewellers
Personality: Very bland and seemingly without any personality but show him something new or others being harmed and he'll cheer right up this little sadist will. Can be related to Hannibal in how he treats others and sees himself compared to them though he does recognise his weak points and seeks to improve upon them whilst simultaneously trying to outwit his opponents.

History (Compulsory)
Bios: A very young Harmony, he is seeking the greatest rhythms and songs of pains and suffering in the universe along with a large amount of knowledge which will surely come with it. Like all Harmony he was named for his song and likely shares his name with several hundred others of his kind and is by far not the first to venture out alone to seek out songs similar to his nor will he be the first to cause the suffering his song drives him to find. His mother was a very polite and strict Harmony who gave him a very strict upbringing which gave him his hatred of rude people whom he breaks down slowly, much to his satisfaction though he may spare them should they prove useful to him in his quest.

His hatred of jewellers goes back a hundred and fifty seven years to when he visited a primitive world. He fell asleep in a cave near a city unknowing that a local jeweller frequented the cave for jewels, the jeweller stumbled upon his arm and took it back to the city to show it to the other jewellers. By the time he had awoken many people had seen his arm, many of them were planning to steal it, in addition to this the jeweller was beginning to chip away pieces of the arm for jewellery and never noticed the floating crystalline being which was at the window glowing a furious red, nor did he notice the spikes shooting from the arm until it was too late. The man was slowly broken apart until nothing remained and the arm was repaired to its former state, to the bafflement of local authorities everything made of metal or jewels was missing from the building along with the owner and not a trace having been left of a thief having been there. They did not have to wait long though as Penance had placed a shard in a local iron ore vein and within a week the crystal had spread through every ore vein in the area and was even moving towards the city. His vengeance was stopped by the arrival of several Harmony who only permitted him to consume the city and not the planet as he had originally planned but as he produced a small army to take the city to be absorbed he gained an enjoyment of command which made him want to find something that would let him do that again on a larger scale.

  • Toughness: 2/10
  • Dexterity: 4/10
  • Intelligence: 9/10
  • Charisma: 2/10

- Luminary Force: By merit of her racial genetics, Mera can manipulate matter around her. She has the ability to control light, generate heat and sound, and manipulate matter on an atomic level. Her powers are driven by her emotions. When experiencing intense fear, sorrow, anger, or embarrassment her energy reaches out and interacts with whatever is within a 50 foot radius. When focused, it can extend for miles. In dark places her hair glows, and she can use the light generated by her hair as a source of power.
Mera can draw light from a physical source to use as energy. Or, alternatively, as a weapon.
Though possessing this great power, she has almost no idea of how to properly use and control it.
But she is afraid of using her powers, out of fear of hurting others again.
(Side note, lightbulbs and eardrums beware. There's a 95% chance that you will get fucked up when around her.)

- A sword and shield, both with elegant patterns

Physical Description (Optional)
Height: 5'5
Weight: 120 lbs
Likes: Reading, art, bright areas, wide open spaces, peace and quiet, sleeping, puzzles
Dislikes: Fighting, dark places, uneccessary cruelty, loud noises, rude people, using her powers
Personality:
Mera was always a quiet and modest girl. Overshadowed by her more athletic and boisterous twin sister, she has learned how to merge into the backdrop. A lover of poems and fine art, Mera has chosen to study art and literature instead of training and improving her powers.
She is naturally kindhearted and understanding, and enjoys playful banter. She also enjoys stormy weather and stargazing, having a keen interest in outer space. Meta also seems to be good at mathematics, though it does not interest her in the slightest.

Mera avidly avoids conflict and is afraid of putting herself in the spotlight. She is a sufferer of mild social anxiety, and prefers to stay on the sidelines and away from crowds of people. Mera is lacking in self-confidence, due to years of bullying and torment by her peers. She strives to overcome her fears, though has found it harder than she previously thought. Though initially timid, she has an underlying strength that she has yet to fully realize. She can accomplish her goals when driven by intense emotion.

History (Compulsory)
Bios:
Mera was born into a wealthy Luminos family. Her parents, being the king and queen of a prosperous nation, were able to provide Mera and her twin sister with many luxuries.

Since childhood, Mera's twin sister Peja had been the closest of friends. Being the most physically strong of the two, Peja would always stick up for her timid sister. However as the years passed, the true differences between them began to show. Peja excelled in sports and fighting, garnering praise and admiration from her family. Mera, on the other hand, was an extraordinary failure at physical endeavors, earning Mera disdain and disappointment from her parents, who had hoped for her to bring prowess and honor to them. Mera had failed to honor her family's tradition of proving their strength and joining the elite knighthood. During her late childhood, Mera experienced trauma that would have a lasting effect on her. An emotional outburst caused Mera to inadvertently harm those she cared about, and turned her into a pariah. Since then, she has vowed to never use her powers.

At some point in her teenage years, Peja signed up for PlanetQuest, desiring the glory and wealth it would surely bring. However life rarely plays fair. A revolution burned through Mera's home country, disposing of the elites. The rich were massacred en masse. A rigged explosion killed Peja, leaving Mera an only child. But her grief did not end there. The new government, a totalitarian socialist military dictatorship, oppressed the former elites, including Mera's family. Her parents were sentenced to execution, and it appeared the young girl was doomed to die in the same way. However, a change of plans interrupted Mera's dark fate. As a cruelly creative death sentence, Mera was signed up for PlanetQuest. They reasoned, "As the rich kings would send off the children of the poor to die in their petty wars, so too will the government of the people send off the child of the king and queen to suffer a similar fate. This spoiled brat will know what it is like, to die unjustly by the sword".

The new government relished in the idea. This young girl would surely die! Unable to change her future, Mera was whisked off to join the numerous other contestants of the famously cruel game of PlanetQuest.

Additional Information (Optional): -
Mera is a Luminos, a race of beings bestowed with odd but extraordinary abilities. They can manipulate light, sound and matter at an atomic level. The most powerful individuals can create atomic explosions 1000x greater than the Hiroshima bomb. Thus, Mera is potentially very powerful (but of course not that powerful. She can't make atomic explosions or anything of the like). The only thing limiting Mera is her own self. And of course lack of any substantial training and discipline.

Their race is spread thin through out the universe by this cultural quest and they are an uncommon sight through out the universe, however not extinct. There is one major quirk about the Kitsune race. While they live for around 130 Years, their bodies do not show signs of aging after the age of 17, giving them child-like bodies for the remainder of their life. This trait has caused for some confusion involving Kitsune dying of old age while looking reasonably young, causing the illusion of an extreamly short lifespan.

He particularly loved his former job, which gave him free reign to 'toy' with others at his fancy. However, the more he dwelled on, the more he started to feel a bit empty inside, lacking a real purpose in his life and in need of a personal goal.

And that's when it dawned on him... Memes are a life purpose.

Steadily, he became endeared with the idea of spreading culture to the lifeless world. That meant the spread of memes, both as a species and as an idea. His radical beliefs convinced him to desert resign from the agency to take to the stars, plying his trade as a freelancer as he sought a way to create more memes. Eventually, he obtained for himself a curious cyborg host in his latest jump, as well as a strange tesseract-shaped device that kept demanding money from him. Both, he extolled, had memetic potential, and he hoped that his participation in PlanetQuest would finally earn him followers in the truth of memes, and have fun with it at the same time.

G-Tech Corporation wrote:Character Information

Species Name: Memes
Scientific Name (Optional): Memetic psionic entities (or "transient schizophrenia", depending on the group's beliefs on the matter)

Homeworld/Origin: Many independent homeworlds. Any species with psychic potential can potentially birth a meme.

Distribution: Spread extremely thin to the point that not everyone knows about them and are sometimes erroneously written off as a myth or a generic mental illness, but potentially anywhere there's advanced life that's interacted with species with psionic potential. There is also a nation consisting almost entirely of meme-possessed individuals which only owns and dominates a single system, but it's basically an Israel for memes and isn't particularly notable aside from its strange species and situation. The majority of memes are doing their own things randomly in the universe with their own agendas and lives.

Picture: N/A

Description:
Wikipedia wrote:A meme (/ˈmiːm/ meem) is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture". A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.

The memes could be considered a species, but not in the regular sense of the word. They can be best be described as sentient mental parasites, in the format of mental information and psychic energy.

  • Basics: They are rarely formed from someone who has psionic abilities, whether they're latent or not. Usually it forms when the individual possesses mental instability or is otherwise not in control of their powers and mind, but it's difficult to confirm if it can possibly happen in perfectly sane espers due to memes forming as a voice in the host's mind. If a meme never left a host and the host never was scanned by a psionic (or advanced technology for scanning for psychic abnormalities and such), it would probably just be written off as schizophrenia. Primitive or otherwise superstitious groups will oftentimes consider a discovered meme to be a demon or other spirit. Memes will usually originally have a personality that will be a distorted version of the original host species (like a schizophrenic voice), but over time this personality will change with disregard to any hosts.

  • Elimination: In any case, the memes means to destroy a meme are generally to kill the current host, or have an advanced esper do battle with the entity on its own turf: the mind. The latter option is vastly more risky, as fighting a being that is entirely composed of psychic energy will be difficult since its lived its whole life knowing how to see energy. Unfortunately, killing a person and reviving them won't work unless you kill them and recreate them from scratch (such as with some forms of cloning), as the meme is as much a part of their mind as their 'normal' mind. So, to get rid of the meme, a sacrifice or a risk must be undertaken.

  • Abilties: As for what a meme can actually do... not much physical. It can manipulate the mind of the host and speak to the host freely (a la schizophrenia), and control the host's emotions (sending him into a rage to inhibit cooperation with undesirables, giving heartfelt joy to reward obedience, punishing with pain, and so on), and eventually (with a sufficient amount of influence) become the meme can become the dominant voice and exercise complete control over the as if it were its own with no need for negotiation.

  • Perspective: Memes don't feel the pain of their host, they just know it. Basically, when a meme is in control, picture it as someone playing a videogame. The needs and senses are known, but aren't directly felt. Like health bars or something, but more abstract. Additionally, a meme can access the current host's memories, but not auto-learn knowledge. For example, if a meme possesses an engineer named John, the meme can attend the memories of his lessons and such, but isn't going to automatically know how to construct a building or anything. Unless a meme feels like attending every lesson and basically get a free education at the cost of wasting time, it's not going to really be worth it. It'd be better to try and convince the host to cooperate and design something with threats of pain or promises of joy, not directly possess the host.

  • Extrasensory Perception: While memes' primary senses are those of its host, they have an additional sense set due to being psionic beings. They can scan a nearby 10cm^3 area or rapidly scan nearby people/creatures. Scanning areas will result in material information on cells and molecules and such, and is more like an electron scope examination of a large amount of stuff. It's not very useful as a sense on its own due to the face that scanning such a small area takes a few seconds, and it provides more scientific information than practical information like "where is this grenade going?". Scanning a lifeform will result in extremely vague information regarding personality and mental/psionic ability, and is moreso for determining potential hosts but can be used by a spy to know the best way to handle manipulation. Unfortunately, most memes prefer the simple method of "pin someone down, transfer oneself, then brute force the new host's mind into submission", but this water-testing ability does help in any case.

  • Contagion:Memes rarely stick with their original host to the bitter end. One of the most important abilities a meme possess for its survival is to leave its original host to lurk inside another. Optimally, this occurs with hours of the next potential host being slowly opened opened up with specific verbalized noises to pick open the mental lock and open the door for a full retention of power, but a simple quiet invasion of the mind will do as well, but this will either take more time or lose more influence. In either case, the official transition is undetectable with only a psychic being able to see or feel it occur. In a less optimal situation, the meme can hastily hurl itself into someone in an instant, but will lose the vast majority of its power unless the target is EXTREMELY lacking in willpower (such as an animal or a particularly pathetic person). The lack of power will prevent the meme from making another leap, so if a psychic is present, the new host can simply be detained or shot. Additionally, by spending power, a meme can attune its current host so a jump can be easily be made later at a lower 'cost' and with notably lower time spent.

  • Potential Hosts: Any advanced creature (regardless of materials, except for machines) can be the host to a meme, but a sentient species must be used if long-term survival is desired. Taking over an animal will result in easy control due to the lack of a competing 'voice', but will eventually result in death of the meme if it does not find a more suitable host to live in and support the healthy living environment. Additionally, people with lower willpower will be more resistant to a meme's influence, and will take less power to force actions from. Conversely, people with more willpower (such as zealots or people with discipline from modern military training) will be much more difficult to influence and force into submission and possession-susceptibility. Additionally, it's also possible for certain advanced specifically-designed pieces of technology to successfully host a meme. These artificial meme hosts usually take the form of a purpose-designed crystal with some sort of power source to feed the meme. Some of these devices are used simply as emergency escapes, while very rarely a meme will order the construction of a body utilizing a crystal as the "brain".

  • HOW BABBY FORM: Most memes don't actually come from an original host, and are actually the result of an occasional error during a jump. A seed will hatch in the first host that is almost identical to the meme it was spawned from. Unfortunately, this leads to some major identity issues as two memes will have the same set of memories and a similar personality. This splitting phenomenon is relatively rare, however, and usually happens once every fifty years per meme. In addition, every time a meme splits in two the personality of BOTH will drift slightly. Ever jump will slightly change the meme with microscopic mutations, but a split is usually more notable and is massively amplified. This is how most memes gain their distinct personalities, as the meme's personality is not limited by its host's personality or even species. This can lead to truly alien or bizarre personalities over longer periods of time, however natural selection usually weeds out the more crazy ones.

Is the holy meme leader of leaders a Shiba Inu?

OOC Information (Compulsory for non-invitees)
RP Example: I was in the last RP.

Such wow. Much meme.
"Free will is a myth. Religion is a joke. We are all pawns, controlled by something greater: Memes. The DNA of the soul. They shape our will. They are the culture. They are everything we pass on."

I was expecting either a doge post or a Rick Astley post. Was not disappointed.
But no, no gods. Hard to have people worshiping a coherent religion when every twentieth one thinks they ARE a god. :p But now I'm sorta tempted to a certain title for the faction leader...

Species Name: Harmony
Scientific Name (Optional):
Homeworld/Origin: First formed shortly after the Big Bang, no homeworld
Distribution: Can be found in clusters across the universe, some worlds have been covered in Harmony crystal growths as have many asteroid fields
Picture (if any): http://f1.bcbits.com/img/a3452432192_10.jpg
Description: Beings of pure crystal that manipulate magnetic and gravitational fields in a local area to bring together their parts. Combat is very easy for them as with slight resonance changes in their arms they can fire plasma or laser bolts and beams as well as shoot shards of crystal that they can change to perform a variety of functions including hacking, controlling other beings and growing more of themselves. As far as eating goes the Harmony can leech minerals from anything, even people though directly consuming the biomass causes pain and deformities so if they must consume a living being they slowly break down the being to gain the minerals they require. Harmony technology is almost entirely crystalline with only a small amount being mechanical, this technology is directly attuned with the Harmony who change change resonance frequencies to turn what is solid to liquid and back again (only applies to crystal) with this only being possible because their technology is literally grown from pieces of them. All harmony typically glow a bright blue but change colours according to their moods e.g. happiness is a deeper blue, anger is red, embarrassment.

Character Information (Compulsory)
Name: Song of retribution and Penance
Age: 1997 Terran Years
Species (must not be full Homo Sapien): Harmony
Appearance (picture link is preferred): http://f1.bcbits.com/img/a3452432192_10.jpg (Harmony are incidental, they can tell differences in resonances and the individuals song)

Statistics Description (25 points to dispense, will be automatically assigned if blank)
Speciality (e.g. Navigation, Research, Ship/Mech/Plane Piloting): Research
Basic Statistics
  • Strength: 7/10
  • Toughness: 8/10
  • Dexterity: 1/10
  • Intelligence: 8/10
  • Charisma: 1/10
Items (up to three): Plasma weapon (carbine)
molecule edged crystal blade (knife)
His personal fighter

Physical Description (Optional)

G-Tech Corporation wrote:Character Information
