An M240 is not a light machine gun by your definition because it's generally operated by at least two people, a gunner and at least one ammo bearer, and can also be used in a fixed position when mounted on a tripod. Basically, this is how machine guns are classified:
Light machine gun: Able to be fired on the move and used as an infantry weapon and is light enough that it can be fired from the shoulder like an assault rifle and the gunner can carry their own ammo. Generally fires an intermediate cartridge. Can be belt or magazine fed.
Heavy machine gun: Always fired from a tripod or vehicle mount, fires large cartridges, generally 12.7mm or 14.5mm. Always belt fed.
General purpose machine gun: Capable of being used effectively in both roles, although you're not going to be firing this from the shoulder like a light machine gun. Fires a full power rifle cartridge, can be operated by one person but usually used in a machine gun team because it's heavy enough that you're not going to want to be carrying the gun and ammo. Always belt fed.
