An M240 is not a light machine gun by your definition because it's generally operated by at least two people, a gunner and at least one ammo bearer, and can also be used in a fixed position when mounted on a tripod. Basically, this is how machine guns are classified:

Light machine gun: Able to be fired on the move and used as an infantry weapon and is light enough that it can be fired from the shoulder like an assault rifle and the gunner can carry their own ammo. Generally fires an intermediate cartridge. Can be belt or magazine fed.
Heavy machine gun: Always fired from a tripod or vehicle mount, fires large cartridges, generally 12.7mm or 14.5mm. Always belt fed.
General purpose machine gun: Capable of being used effectively in both roles, although you're not going to be firing this from the shoulder like a light machine gun. Fires a full power rifle cartridge, can be operated by one person but usually used in a machine gun team because it's heavy enough that you're not going to want to be carrying the gun and ammo. Always belt fed.

Those are the exception. And also just soldiers having fun on the range. 99% of the time you're going to see these types of guns fired from the bipod or the hip.

On another note the SAW is also the FN-MAG :P half of these guns are belgian :D
Plus the M240B is a medium MG which is a general purpose designation. :/
A few examples of LMG's is the BREN, BAR, L86A2 LSW, and L108A1, L110A2, L110A3, Minimi 7.62. (Note, only two of these guns aren't Belgian XD )

Scaldis Prestige de Nuits (Barrel aged delectable Belgian brew/a mug or glass of heaven) Goes great with the waffles!(With powdered sugar on top) :P

Belgium makes a lot of guns in general XD

Lol, if Patrick lives long enough to get leave he is going to take a little of that time to take any friends he makes for waffles covered in chocolate and beer in some historical mideval town(Probably Bruges) :D

If the Bren were still good it wouldn't be obsolete, as for the L86A2 LSW it doesn't quite meet the exact spec's here for a full fledged MG :P

The BAR is on that list though and that's an American gun. FN was only one place where it was manufactured and most BARs were manufactured in America. By that logic the BAR is also Polish and Swedish because it was manufactured in Poland and Sweden as well. AKs are also American and AR-15s are Chinese and Russian by that logic as well.

Even the popular general purpose mg the lewis gun, also used in the squad mobile automatic weapon role, was made by the belgians. Every allied nation used it except possibly Russia :P (WW1)
