True, but I can generally only play the various aspects of myself. The reclusive one, the arrogant one, the happy one, and the diplomatic one. I have a hard time doing anything else, and all my character ideas embody one of these traits.

That's the same with me: I find it difficult to play as something I, at least, don't share an aspect with.

It is most definitely difficult to put yourself in someone else's shoes. But to do so is a strong mark of empathy, and empathy allows you to better understand others and be more sensitive to their needs, emotions, and desires.

So try it out. See what happens. Force yourself to think from a completely different mindset than your own. You'll enjoy it.

I do as well, actually. Half the time I play characters and realize how many ideals they have the same as mine, and every time I do, something feels off for me (personally) and it starts rubbing off badly on me to see so many of my characters have the same type of "intelligence" (I don't mean this as in smart, really, just the same type of ideals) as me and I start going "Okay, so I really don't need ALL of my characters to be so open minded...", and change things. Or try to...

*Ignores the fact that no matter what, pretty much all of his characters are Atheist*

I wonder if this is partially why I feel like I can look at both sides of discussions so often so well. Because I just see people going "You're all bad" about one political group/group of people, and vice versa, and I'm always like, in the middle, being able to see both sides of things...I dunno, I just never understood why that seems to be so rare with people.

I feel the same way. Actually, if you look at both sides of my family, or look at the family wherein I was raised, I'm actually the first to be able to empathize with so many different types of people. Most likely it is because of the form of religion that my entire family professes rather than any personal "inability" to empathize, but that is a discussion for later.

Well, I met 2 of my introverted cousins for the first time since they were like, 4 (They didn't even remember me), and they were both introverted. At first it was hard to talk to one (One's so quiet she barely talks), but just like myself, as soon as we get on the right topic...We don't stop talking. Sadly, that started at 12 AM, so the talk didn't last long enough. But damn it was nice to actually have a talk with a relative I could relate to the most, and I love people who are super smart like she was at the age of 14. She is the type to say she doesn't know much while dropping random things you can use to help issues with your throat. And sadly, had issues when she was younger that held her back (Apparently not too much, though, since she's smarter than a lot of people in high school...And adults..)

Not sure why I said all of that, but that's besides the point. Think I was just saying that I can do the same, and it was nice to have someone who I felt could probably do the same as well in my family. Not to say that others can't, either, but when you have a grandpa who tells people that they're just "uniformed" while he watches Fox News...Yeah, sometimes you wonder how much they can empathize with others.

Also, as far as sides of the family goes, it is pretty obvious which is more about family get togethers. On my dads side, I just knew my grandpa, my grandma (before she died of cancer), my uncle, and his wife. That's it. My moms side? I could name 20 cousins on the top of my head.

*Rambles even more*

So my friend is now 18. He's a nerd, many people dislike him (I tolerate him), obnoxious, but he's got some good friends. Invites at least a dozen people to come over, swim, play games, hang out, the works. Only 6 show up: me, somewhat "special" friend (not handicapped, he just has this weird problem with his upper lip. Hard to talk), funny underclassman, token black guy, ROTC guy who hangs with him, and one girl who associates herself with guy nerds so much she's just become a staple.

Anyways, we play some Smash, swim, more Smash, trololol on a golf cart, end up back at his house at like 10pm. Dark as hell.

Smash time. I draw a crude bracket for a tournament (7 people, girl gets a by. 3 lives, no time, Smash ball only item). Me and him (most experienced in Smash) end up as opposites. Underclassman beats black guy, I beat guy with lip problem, friend beats ROTC guy.

Round 2: I beat underclassman, friend beats girl after giving a 150% handicap and a 2nd match (he hardly tried, it was just a formality).

Final round. We can't agree on characters. ROTC guy: "Why not random, if you think you're the best?" We random. I forget this round, but I win with like 2 lives. Me: "Best 2 out of 3?"

We go again. Final Destination FTW. Me: Lucina. Him: Game & Watch. Fight's going alright, I kill him, controller gets stupid and runs me off the edge. I KO him again, he gets me. Final lives: go hard mode.

I smack him, he smacks me, I smack him A LOT. Eventually, he's standing there doing G&W's side-B: Judge. Just swinging the hammer. "Can't kill me now!" He proclaims. I try to hit him, not enough reach. Try again, he hits me with a 6 Judge. I'm hurt, he's hurt, but he's just waiting me out.

I stand there. Right at edge of reach of hammer. Hold Neutral-B: Swordbreaker.

Wait.

Wait.

Hit him. With tip of sword. Goes flying, KO, entire room explodes into cheers. Fucking amazing.

Woulda been better with Marth. That tipper would have sent him to the moon.

Also, you should have just slowly inched up and then countered. Countering extends your hitbox, and I'm pretty sure the return strike has enough range to go through his hammer, and if you got a 9...

The Templar High Council wrote:So my friend is now 18.

Feel free to contact me about any fantasy, sci-fi, or otherwise futuristic RPs, especially those involving aliens or other non-humans, especially if it is an original universe/idea. I also enjoy Mass Effect, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and many other things that transit to roleplays.
