The Black Arm around us only grew in number, even if their advance was briefly stalled by the arrival of these other two warriors. My own area of affect attacks have also done a job of keeping them at bay, however like a hive they began to try and force themselves back into the attack. Entirely fearless of any prospect of injury as they moved in like a tidal wave, obviously attempting to overwhelm us with numbers. Within the horde of attackers, the plasma bursts from the weapons of the common warriors collided against a instinctive force field which I had erected, the field covered a small radius, barely larger than myself formed more by reflex than as a tactical decision. As they got ever closer I finally took in the sight of there rather gross appearance up close. Most all of them shared common traits, mostly their rough and bumped skin, the black and red coloration combined with their large glowing yellow eyes. Looking almost like insects in that respect. It was then that a larger one, easily towering over the others being more than twice their height it's arms were as thick as a large barrel. It forced its way over to my own force field, pushing and shoving its allies aside as it focused on my small frame.
Upon reaching me, it had began to wail against the Force Field, and even with the barrier up, the sheer force of its blows made tremors that I could feel from beneath my defense. As he did so, swarms of flying monsters small in size but moving as a single large formation of aerial enemies began to slam themselves against the top of my own shield. Keeping me on the defense. And in so doing, I soon found myself so surrounded by the aliens that within a minute I was entirely surrounded by the monsters, unable to even see my new allies outside of my bubble as I held the wall up against the pounding fists of the behemoth, the hostile flying swarms and the blazing weapons of the warriors as they attempted to endlessly crush my dome of protection.
I began to feel my arms grow heavy, as well as my fists shake and tremble as I held them outstretched and bracing each and every impact. My psychic powers are limited in some ways to my own physical durability. If forces that collide with my telekinesis are stronger than my mental power, the excess is channeled over and felt as physical pain. If that physical pain becomes too great, it further exhausts my mental state, thereby collapsing my abilities.
And at such rates, despite my power, the sheer number of my foes will erode my stamina quickly...as my knees slowly began to yield, I felt the shield's radius grow ever smaller. And the encroaching hordes grow ever closer.
"ENOUGH!" I screamed in pain and frustration. I refocused my power from a shield and into telekinetic flight, plowing through several of my enemies and rocketing into the sky, colliding with many of the smaller flying enemies, taking their weight smash into my small body unprotected by a shield. As I trained myself on a new target.
Sailing higher and higher above the city, if one from below watched me, they could see I was fast approaching the rift in space and time above the city...far above the city. Where the enemy were drawing their main reinforcements. Attacking their army would be useless if we try to eliminate them all one by one, without cutting them off from their supply. This rift is not the only one in the world, in fact, there may even be as much as hundreds more scattered across the planet, but this is the one in the immediate vicinity. Closing it, should make dealing with the forces in Gotham far easier for the Rainborn, whatever that was and the new arrival.
As I continued to climb higher into the sky, several swarms of Black Arms broke off their original attack and pursued me. Trailing behind at a few dozen meters as I raced them to their portal. I soon found myself face to face with a new enemy however, as I grew ever closer to my goal.
As I reach the upper levels of the atmosphere, the tempatures begin to drop sharply. Finally reaching the rift, I could feel it's pull attempt to draw me in. But then the swarms which had gave chase to me, seemingly unhindered by the cold, began to pelt me like bats in the sky. Slamming their frames into me as I stretched out both of my hands. Not even certain this would work. Or even make sense, but knowing I have to try. These will likely close in time...but Gotham does not have that time.
I ignored the frost building up on my fur. Ignored the burning sensation in my lungs. Ignored the mind splitting pain my head was in. Ignored the screaming aches in my arms. Ignored the jelly like weakness in my legs and ignored the pounding from each and every Black Volt, those small flying aliens gave me each time they hit me.
I focused on one thing only, pulling the rift closed. I began to scream in pain as I grasped out in telekinetic power and saw the rift starting to show signs of closing. Encouraged by this, I poured every last ounce of power I had into the effort, still crying out in the physical pain of it.
My eyes began to flutter open and closed, as my head felt as if it carried the weight of the world, and before I could even comprehend what was happening. I found myself passing out and falling from the sky, cold and beaten. My small body began a spiraling downward descent into Gotham City, reaching terminal velocity in only a few seconds as the battle raged below.
