So I started on Neon Genesis Evangelion, decided to stop at episode 2 and watch the next one later in the evening.

Pretty good so far. It's kind of enjoyable to watch an old classic (really like the animation) and it was refreshing how they had a straightforward beginning instead of something complex. Only thing I'm dreading is fanservice.

Rei has gotten little screentime, but she is already best character.

Really enjoying Rokka at the moment. It didn't look all that promising but got interesting pretty quickly and its gorgeous to look at.

World Trigger and the third season of Drrr are the things I'm enjoying the most at the moment though.

I used to lean towards the if it looks, sounds and smells like anime then it is regardless of geography but lately I find myself going the other way. I mean you wouldn't call something Russian literature if it was heavily inspired by Tolstoy but written in America by a British person or whatever.

Granted, the original word for 'anime' in Japanese is literally just short form for 'animation'. So, if you're going to call anime-inspired shows as 'anime', you technically would have to call all cartoons 'anime' as well. I understand that some people refer to anime with regards to arts style, but for me, it's just really jarring to apply it to non-Japanese shows, no matter how animeesque, simply because the geography just doesn't sit well with me.

In my case, I just simply watch for enjoyment, regardless of their origins. For me, RWBY is a good and entertaining show.

That's how I think too. Anime is anime, and those inspired by it are just cartoons/shows inspired by anime. I like them the same, but only one is what it is, while the other is imitating.

Well, it's not. Similarly to how a painting done in the Baroque style in 2015 is not truly Baroque, a show done in anime style in North America is not truly anime. That's not to say it's not good, it's just to say that it's not technically anime.

I'm really quite enjoying World Trigger. I love the emphasis on strategy in combat.
