I don't really get that, either. Have you read the VN? Because most of his actions (certainly all the important ones as far as I remember) actually make a lot of sense. The anime didn't really do him justice. It wasn't as bad as their treatment of poor Caster, but still.

I don't like Fate Shirou, but I rather like him in UBW, and Heaven's Feel Shirou is pretty amazing.

I've come across this youtube vid which lampshades anime cliches of annoying kind, according to the guy speaking in the video.

So Enclave and fellow animu fans, any thoughts about it in your opinion?

I agree with the first -- one of the many reasons why I could never remotely like DBZ.

The second one I have issues with, mainly due to phrasing. I hate it when characters either cower out of a situation they've been openly craving for their entire life, or just never pick up on the most obvious displays of thirst -- basically most harem MCs. However, the guy in the vid says that "logic kicking in" annoys him. That's stupid IMO. It perpetuates the fallacious and annoying cliché that men lose or should lose all self-control as soon as they are confronted with a pair of breasts. If a character has a logical reason not to have sex (or, you know, if he just isn't interested in the prospect), then doing so at the first ecchi situation would annoy me more than any other cliché.

The third is entirely true. Also the lack of therapists, useful law enforcement, administrative issues and common sense tends to annoy me unless it's justified.

The fourth is my opinion as well. In the first place, I dislike ecchi by default, so ...

The fifth I don't care about at all, since I systematically skip 99.9% of openings and endings.

Apart from that, the clichés I particularly hate are that nakama power BS (Fairy Tail's main plot device); idiotic MCs like Naruto who forgive everything and love everyone no matter how horribly twisted the concerned people are; and characters who find it "dangerous" or "risky" to have a girl at less than 3 meters from them. Goddammit, can't you keep yourself in check? You aren't a f*cking bonobo.

Oh, and in hentai, that constant scenario where the bad guy blackmails the girl into sex with some inconsequential photograph or whatnot. Just tase him and go to the police, damnit. Hell, there's no need to do anything, if he actually goes through with it you can sue him for half a dozen severe charges and destroy his life utterly. I mean, come on. That annoys me.

Oh, and while we're discussing clichés, is there anyone here who lives or has lived in Japan, or has hands-on knowledge of Japanese society? Because there are a couple of things I'm curious about.

Namely, are Japanese people really so inhibited that walking under the same umbrella is like making out in public, holding hands is an orgasmic experience and being in the same room as a member of the opposite sex means sensory overload?
Is there some kind of stigma associated with going to see a therapist?
Do guys really randomly hit on middle-school girls in the streets?
And are middle-aged men really all perverts who buy used panties and dream of dragging the aforementioned middle-school girls into a motel?

Well, I watched other genres of Hentais. But I do also enjoyed vanilla very much cuz it'll be nice to have something sweet for once. If so, a break from bitterness of bad endings.

Yeah, this is actually true. Basically, following their honour-based value system, bringing a relative to a therapist would be seen as a 'failing' from their own family in managing to bring happiness for their loved one.

It's the reason why Hikikomori aren't simply kicked out of their homes and instead benefit from economical support and subsistence from their family.

It burdens the economy slowly, though. And then there are elders who always stole things or did criminal activities just to be arrested and sent to the prison so that they will be taken care of. The elders who do these are the ones who had been abandoned by their family.

Honestly, there's stigma around seeing a therapist even in Western culture. Very few of my RL friends know that I've suffered from serious depression and that I see a psychologist. It's just not something I talk about all that much -- even in supposedly safe spaces (because often attempts at creating safe spaces fail miserably) -- because there is that stigma, and I don't feel comfortable talking about it.

I doubt the Japanese are that scared of the opposite sex, although it is a pretty conservative society, from what I've seen and been told.

As for therapists, yeah, there's a stigma for that everywhere, but I can see where it'd be greater in Japan.

As for the guys hitting on girls, while I doubt the majority of men do that, there are some, for sure. I've seen videos and heard stuff about guys peeking and messing with girls in public. Saw a funny video a tourist took when he caught a guy doing that, and he got right up on the dude and started calling him out. It's definitely not something that I'd let slide, either.

Not all middle aged men are perverts. Really, anyone of any age can be a pervert alright. Hell, I've seen some major perverts who weren't from Japan...but yeah, I think it's a thing over there, with buying panties. Not sure what the thing is with sex over there in the cities.

I think most of that would apply to big cities in Japan, though. I'd love to see Japan, but I'd like to see the countryside more than the cities, and get a taste of the culture. Shrines, nature, all that. I'd love to go to Okinawa.

That is, if I ever have the chance. Maybe when I'm in the Army, I can see Korea. I want to see Shanghai and the rest of China as well, but Japan is special :p

Would have been better to go through the cliché dragon kill ending than that, to be honest, but then I suspect people will complain that's too cliché.

Hell Girl? I've tried to watch that, but lost interest after it didn't stop repeating the same pattern of introducing us to a total asshole and proceeding to show how that person dies. Is there actually any plot in there? Have I been simply too impatient with the anime?
