Hmm, we'll see. If you fight both the Ptolemaics and Etruscans and mainland Greeks you may have an issue, but aligning with one will probably see off other potential aggressors, even if the alliance is only a trade port on your isle or a mutual campaign against a small Greek city state.

Previously, the population of Carthage(city) was 150,000. After further investigation, I'm asking the city be increased to 300,000 and the entire civilization be increased to 1,750,000.

Great naval Power: With their vast amount of territory spread along the Eastern Mediterranean such as Cyprus, southern Turkey (the orange bit north of Cyprus on the map) and a number of small Aegean and islands, the Ptolemies required a large navy to defend these far-flung strongholds from potential enemies like the Macedonians. Egypt is rich and can thus afford a large and well equipped navy. The royal Ptolemaic navy is commonly regard as second only to the Rhodian fleet. Effect: Bonus when fighting at sea and increased trade because of the fleet's ability to protect merchant men.
Nubian mercenary Archers While the Egyptian themselves always placed an emphasis on infantry and cavalry over archers, the Ptolemy's are rich enough to hire vast amounts of mercenaries. Some of the most important are desert archers from Nubia in the south. These Nubian archers, armed mainly with composite bows are trained from birth and are said to be able to hit a man's eyes from the maximum range their bows allow. Effect: Bonus when fighting other civilizations on land and sea
