"A Broken Body Does Not Mean a Broken Soul" - Astrogomenite Proverb

Some call them the Cynical Syanlins, others call them the Just Syanlins. Those who do not use the titles, simply refer to the Syanlin Family as House Syanlin, the Traders of East Artosgome, Rulers of the Paseral Trade Routes, Lords of the Coin of the City of Lamazanii. Whatever they are called, the Syanlins are a brutal business family, using whatever means necessary to protect themselves, their trade, their allies and their reputation. Bribery? Murder? War? It does not matter to them as they do what they want to get what they want.

Welcome to the Grand City of Lamazanii, the main trade port of the realm of Artosgome, specifically the eastern part where no ship can get in and out without going through the city. Who rules here? Feuding business families, who constantly bicker, murder and fight each other over the amount of trade that comes through. Most famous of all of these families, are the Syanlins. "The Syanlins will always rule the Paseral" people always say, but that is not always the case...

Recently, a new family, the Camasesi, have begun to invade the Syanlins' trade, taking over their trade ports in short yet bloody skirmishes between their own retinues. As well, fights in the streets of Lamazanii have begun to increase as the Camasesi ships begin to trade more with Syanlins clients, bribing their clients until they begin trading with only the Camasesi.

Picarry Syanlins, the former head of House Syanlins before his untimely death due to Slow Fever, had now begun to take this rivalry with the Camasesi seriously, arming his levies on his properties in other provinces of Artosgome, in preparation for a trade war. However, with this serious decline in power, the Syanlins have seen other families such as the Hakisnam, the Batunamizi, the Vocanni and the Kiriaks rise up and begin to do similar as the Camases, threatening the Syanlins' trade. With this in mind, Picarry's son, Aser, has only one thing on his mind:

Remind who rules the Paseral.

The Recent Years...

Blood was spilled in the previous years. The skirmishes have become more rampant, more deadly and claim more and more lives than ever before. Notably, the heir to the Camasesi assets, Kasma Camasesi, slain by a Syanlins thug during a night ambush in the streets. This fighting has become more noticeable with the commoners in Lamazanii, knowing where to stay away from and at what times as the local police force does nothing to try and stop this outbreak of violence.

While the Syanlins try and re-establish themselves as a capable trading force with their eastern clients across the Paseral Sea, Camasesi trade ships have begun to board Syanlins trade ships, in an effort to try and physically block the Syanlins from trading. A miniature embargo, it is being called by freelancer traders and neutral families. A bloody one as well, the ships being sent back to Lamazanii with the crew dead and the ship stripped of its trade and valuables.

Whatever the plans of the Syanlins and the Camasesi are, they are only escalating the violence to extreme points.

1. No Godmodding, Metagaming or Cheating in general.
2. Please listen to the OPs and Co-OPs and their decisions please.
3. No one-liners, good quality RPing. This means there must be at least ninth grade grammar and spelling at least.
4. No flaming.
5. Even if you have 15+ years of combat experience or something like that, no, you're not immortal/unkillable.
6. You are strictly restricted to the city of Lamazanii and its surrounding countryside.
7. Go easy on the brutal details of fights and such.
8. Your character, if he/she is unmarried, may be forcefully married to another family's member for political reasons. This was common during the time we are currently RPing in (High Middle Age) so keep that in mind please :)
9. It's a P2TM RP, not real life. Although we may gun for realism in this RP, don't go that hard to the point where it's stressful for everyone. Have fun.
10. THIS IS A PRETTY IMPORTANT RULE: We are only RPing as Syanlins, NO OTHER FAMILY/OUTSIDERS, so keep it close kin (cousin maximum belonging to the House being the furthest you can get). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Character Name: Aser Syalins

Nickname (If Any): The Young

Titles (If Any): Head of House Syalins, Deputy Trade Minister of the City of Lamazanii

Age: 29

Appearance (Description or Picture): About 6"0, 195 pounds. Blue eyes, Caucasian, short brown hair kept in neat order.

Personality: Outgoing, ambitious and deceitful. Aser has the tendency to lie and cheat his way for his goals, which he sets often for himself.

Strengths:

  • Ambitious - Aser possesses a drive to achieve better every single day, no matter what the cost.
  • Outgoing - Since he is outgoing, Aser has almost no trouble making friends on the spot.
  • Deceitful - Another shade of Aser would be his deceitfulness. Always thinking of new ways to bypass the Camasesi's efforts to try and enforce their mini-embargo on the Sylans as well as erode the Camasesi and their allies' trade power.
  • Quick - Aser is able to think on the spot, allowing him to form new deals and political agreements with both other families, new clients and the Lamazanii officials

Weaknesses (Minimum 2):

  • Cocky - Due to his strengths, Aser believes that he is the best head of house, since, well, ever. Even though he has accomplished little, Aser still maintains this aura of pompousness.
  • Inexperienced Commander - Aser, even though he has spent his time learning how to fight with a sword, has never commanded any form of military organizations ever. This has lead to Aser becoming a very poor leader during fights.

Equipment (If Any): A Mark XII Short Sword, an expensive short sword that is fast and possesses a deadly point for stabbing. It can be used for slashing and hacking uses, but it is more effective as a stabbing weapon.

Biography:

Born in the time of the Syanlins' decline, Aser was groomed by his father, Picarry, to embrace the times of hardship. During this, Aser was taught how to manage finances, how to handle a sword, etc. A natural diplomat, Picarry never fully developed this to his advantage as Aser grew up. Throughout his time growing up in Lamazanii, Aser was never affected by the political events at a young age, becoming friends with the current head of the Camasesi House, Riekal. The two were inseparable, skipping their lessons about history, language and mathematics to further their friendship, becoming very good friends. This was until Kasma Camasesi, the older brother of Riekal, had been killed by a Syanlins soldier, pretending to be a generic street thug. This was enough to dissolve the friendship Riekal and Aser had enjoyed over the years.

The air between Riekal and Aser had grown cold, especially with Aser rising to the head of House Syalins following his father's dead due to Slow Fever. With this power, Aser began to wage a trade war against Riekal and the Camasesi. By age 23, Aser had managed to increase the trade flow of the Syalins once again, boosting the number of their ships and training additional men to their retinues to protect their ships while they embarked to the east.

Relation to the Syanlins Family: Son of Picarry Syanlins and Georgia.

RP Examples: Haha, I'm so funny.

Anything else we should know? Sloppy app, haha.

"Who Rules the Lamazanii, Rules the Paseral Sea"

Head of House: Aser Syalins
Heir: -TBA-
Strength: About 920 Men (250 part of a retinue) for combat, 3200 sailors, 80 trade ships
Allies: The Vocanni, The Hakisnams [Unofficially]
Rivals: The Camasesi, The Kiriaks
Brief History:

The Syanlins have been the Lamazanii's dominant trade family ever since 689 After Revival (After the Revival of the Kingdom of Artosgome, AR). Ever since the prominent landed noble, Irias Syanlins, founded the house back in 685, the Syanlins had taken advantage of numerous heads to advance their trade power within Lamazanii. Numerous Syanlins have become advisers to the royalty of Artosgome, in return, the king/local count/local duke have given surplus assets for the Syanlins to build themselves upon. Notably would have to be Toeasdem Syanlins, who offered the king at the time, King Arosgam IV, his stewardship in return for military training of numerous Syanlins levies to turn them into professional soldiers.

Notable Members:

Irias Syanlins - Founder of the House - [Dead Since 702 AR, Died of Natural Causes]
Tieasdem Syanlins - Prominent Former Head of House, Established the Syanlins' personal guard - [Dead Since 805 AR, Died of an Infected Wound]

Elisabeth Syanlin - Cousin of Aser - [Unknown Parents]

Junitaliaranus Syanlins - Cousin of Aser - [Unknown Parents]

Power: The Syanlins' political and social power mostly comes from their brutal reputation to assassinate or murder close kin of people who double cross them. Another way the Syalins' power emerges from would be their powerful personal army, trade fleet and excellent stewardship. The Syanlins have also been known to be just in terms of crimes, preventing crimes at the source by donating food and money to those who would usually resort to stealing. For murderers however, they are usually hunted down and publicly executed by Syanlins soldiers.

"Every Tyrant has their End"

Head of House: Riekal Camasesi
Heir: Osmond Camasesi
Strength: About 890 Men (400 part of a retinue) for combat, 3040 sailors, 76 trade ships
Allies: The Batunamizi, The Kiriaks
Rivals: The Syanlins, The Vocanni
Brief History:

The Camasesi, unlike their rivals, the Syanlins, are not an original house in Lamazanii, only founded recently in 809 AR. Being mostly underdogs their entire existence, the Camasesi saw their power almost quadruple with a creation of a 400-man retinue. Tired of seeing the Syanlins ruling the trade in Lamazanii, the Camasesi used their 400-man retinue to overrun key trade ports outside of Lamazanii where word would be difficult to get out. The Syanlins only discovered this when their ships who usually travelled to these ports were never heard from again. The Camasesi were also responsible for the dramatic increase in the Syanlins' private armies' numbers and quality as their irregular trading methods were implanted.

Notable Members:

Rikkard I Camasesi - Founder of the House - [Dead Since 862 AR, Died of Natural Causes]
Riekal Camasesi - Current Head of House, the Wolf of East Host Bay

Irok Camasesi -3rd Brother of Riekal - Younger
Elijah Camasesi - 4th Brother of Riekal - Younger - Married to Bianca Batunamizi
Thema Camasesi - 1st Sister of Riekal - Older - Married to Fleamos Kiriaks

Rikkard III Camasesi - Father of Riekal, Former Head of House - [Dead Since 989 AR, Killed By a Vocanni Soldier, mistaken for a thug]
Michelle - Wife of Rikkard III - Lowborn - [Dead Since 990, Died following an accident occurring at the Camasesi manor]
Edmaurd Camasesi - Uncle of Riekal Camasesi, Brother of Rikkard III
Oscar Camasesi - Uncle of Riekal Camasesi, Half-Brother of Rikkard III
Esmira Camasesi - Aunt of Riekal Camasesi, Sister of Rikkard III

Power: Unlike the Syanlins, the Camasesi are known for their popularity with the commonfolk. Known to be charitable to those whom they approved of, the Camasesi are actively involved in the politics of Lamazanii, supporting their politicians in their vies for senate positions.

"When There is a Space, There is Always Someone Willing to Fill it"

Head of House: Gratiano Batunamizi
Heir: Cassio Batunamizi
Strength: About 500 Men (All 500 part of a retinue) for combat, 1000 sailors, 25 trade ships
Allies: The Camasesi, The Kiriaks
Rivals: The Vocanni, The Hakisnam, The Olocks [Northern Trade Family whose power crosses with the Batunamizi's. Not located in Lamazanii]
Brief History:

A recently formed family, House Batunamizi has been a relative second string trade power in Lamazanii, only having influence in the lower legislation of Lamazanii, the district governments. However, Batunamizi has become a good ally with the Camasesi and is able to support the Camasesi with 500 extra soldiers and 25 extra trade ships. Of course, the Batunamizi, unlike the Camasesi, have no reason to become rivals with the Syanlins and vice versa, but instead wage a miniature trade war on the Hakisnam and the Vocanni.

Notable Members:

Antonio Batunamizi - Founder of the House - [Dead Since 906 AR, Died of Pneumonia]
Gratiano Batunamizi - Current Head of House, the Quiet
Angelica Kiriak - Wife of Gratiano

Cassio Batunamizi - 1st Son of Gratiano & Angelica, the Learner
Montano Batunamizi - 2nd Son of Gratiano & Angelica

Stephano Batunamizi - 2nd Brother of Gratiano, Older - Enlisted in the Armies of the Kingdom of Astrogome, Unable to Inherit
Alonso Batunamizi - 3rd Brother of Gratiano, Younger
Miranda Batunamizi - 1st Sister of Gratiano, Older - Unmarried (Rumoured to be married to Villem Syanlins for political reasons)

Damiano Batunamizi - Father of Gratiano, Former Head of House - [Dead Since 989, Died of Slow Fever]
Cerima Kiriaks - Wife of Damiano - [Dead Since 991, Died of Depression]
Leonardo Batunamizi - Uncle of Gratiano, Brother of Damiano
Solanio Batunamizi - Uncle of Gratiano, Brother of Damiano
Lorenzo Batunamizi - Uncle of Gratiano, Brother of Damiano
Erin Batunamizi - Aunt of Gratiano, Brother of Damiano - Married to Pakuh Kiriak

Power: The Batunamizi have not really accumulated that much power over the years it has existed. Although the Batunamizi may not have that much power, whatever power they do have is mainly focused towards the City Watch, where most of it is funded by the Batunamizi family. As a result, the Batunamizi, if their own retinue were to fail, could count on the City Watch to bail them out of tough situations.

"To the Winner: Spoils, the Loser: Defeat, the Observer: Knowledge"

Head of House: Michael Vocanni
Heir: Orchard Vocanni
Strength: About 600 Men (200 part of a retinue) for combat, 2320 sailors, 58 trade ships
Allies: The Syanlins
Rivals: The Camasesi, The Batunamizis
Brief History:

An unlikely house from an unlikely start, the Vocanni have been called everything in the book. Rats, dogs, bastards, barbarians, northerners, black cats, bitches, whores' children, everything that is an insult, the Vocanni have been associated with it. This is probably because the original Vocanni was a lowborn, who rose to power through a marriage with a noblewoman that led to inheritance. It was from there, that Caleb Asprien (who adopted the name of the family he had been married into), began to expand himself in the world of noble politics. A natural diplomat, steward and warrior, Caleb grew his power by forcefully seizing power from his father-in-law, killing him and grabbing the title of Head of House before anyone else could. Changing the name to his mother's name, Vocanni, a new house had been born, with most of the Asprien family being integrated into it, forcefully. However, the house would settle after a while but the actions of Caleb would never be forgotten.

Notable Members:

Caleb Asprien (Vocanni) - Founder of House - [Dead Since 875 AR, Died of Natural Causes]
Illiad Asprien - Claimant
Michael Vocanni - Current Head of House
Esmilia - Wife of Michael

Orchard Vocanni - 1st Son of Michael and Esmilia
Jacob Vocanni - 2nd Son of Michael and Esmilia
Pierre - 1st Bastard Son of Michael and Jacqueline, a courtier in Michael's court - Twins with Yiuam
Yiuam - 1st Bastard Daughter of Michael and Jacqueline, a courtier in Michael's court - Twins with Pierre
Elisak Vocanni - 1st Daughter of Michael and Esmilia - Married to Aser Syanlins
Tamia Vocanni - 2nd Daughter of Michael and Esmilia
Luanette Vocanni - 3rd Daughter of Michael and Esmilia

Saxon - 1st Bastard Son, Half Brother to Michael - Older
Liam - 2nd Bastard Son, Half Brother to Michael - Older
Adiska - 1st Brother to Michael - Younger
Heramil Vocanni - 1st Sister of Caleb - Older
Ilyma Vocanni - 2nd Sister of Caleb - Younger

Richard Vocanni - Father of Michael, Former Head of House - [Dead Since 992 AR, Died after a period of illness]
Asthinia - Wife of Richard - Lowborn
Marco Vocanni - 1st Brother of Richard
Lucas Vocanni - 2nd Brother of Richard

Miranda Vocanni - Apparent Mother of Sigmund Syanlins (Sigmund Vocanni at the moment) - [Dead Since 988, Died of Slow Fever]

Power: The Vocanni base their power off of their intrigue. Their famous line of spymasters for the kings of Astrogome have drawn the Syanlins to protect the Vocanni. This mutual historical connection between the Syanlins and the Vocanni have been noted to be the basis for their alliance, that is continuously renewed with marriages of cousins, nephews and sons. The Vocanni themselves possess a well-trained and medium sized retinue that is always skirmishing with the Camasesi, this makes the Vocanni a decent military power in Lamazanii politics.

"A Foreigner is Not Always an Enemy, He Can Also be Your Superior"

Head of House: Bashir Hakisnam
Heir: Faizel Hakisnam
Strength: About 750 Men (300 part of a retinue) for combat, 1840 sailors, 46 trade ships
Allies: The Kiriaks, The Syanlins [Unofficially]
Rivals: The Batunamizi
Brief History:

As part of the Jamahidi Empire's effort to establish its own trade family in Lamazanii, the Hakisnams were a minor noble house that had been chosen to embark west. During this time, the House's founder, Irfan Hakisnam, was a young, experienced fighter, steward and teacher of the Jamahidi's religion, Azkababnami [similar to Islam]. This arrival of a new religion saw the Jamahidi's expedition falter initially, due to the pressure the aggressive trade tactics the Syanlins used to fight their competition as well as hostility from the local population, who did not accept Azkababnami right away. Regardless, the Jamahidi Empire began pouring soldiers, sailors and experienced merchants into their expedition. The Hakisnams grew as a result, seeing an increase in economic growth and their fleet.

Notable Members:

Irfan Hakisnam - Founder of House - [Dead Since 762 AR, Died of an Infected Wound]
Bashir Hakisnam - Current Head of House, the Poacher
Celisia Kiriaks - 1st Wife to Bashir
Katherine - 2nd Wife to Bashir
Osilia - 3rd Wife to Bashir

Faizel Hakisnam - 1st Son of Bashir & Celisia
Mahir Hakisnam - 2nd Son of Bashir & Celisia
Abdullah Hakisnam - 3rd Son of Bashir & Celisia
Rabi Hakisnam - 1st Son of Bashir & Katherine
Baqi Hakisnam - 1st Son of Bashir & Osilia
Dua Hakisnam - 1st Daughter of Bashir & Celisia
Ghadir Hakisnam - 1st Daughter of Bashir & Katherine
Afaf Hakisnam - 2nd Daughter of Bashir & Katherine

Junaid Hakisnam - 1st Brother of Bashir, Younger
Mahdi Hakisnam - 2nd Brother of Bashir, Younger
Ihsan Hakisnam - 1st Sister of Bashir, Younger

Rashid Hakisnam - Father of Bashir, Former Head of House - [Dead Since 983 AR, Died of Natural Causes]
Nada Hakisnam - Wife of Rashid
Safi Hakisnam - Brother of Rashid

Power: The Hakisnam's power comes from their trade ties back east from where they originated. As part of the eastern empire's (the Jamahidi Empire) efforts to establish their own trading family counterpart in Lamazanii, the Hakisnam were the second family to arrive in Lamazanii, remaining a neutral family towards the Syanlins, however, occasionally providing them with extra troops, ships and goods to support their fight against the Camasesi. This has allowed the Hakisnams to rise further up in Lamazanii politics, with the Syanlins returning the favour by putting in good words about them and placing pro-Hakisnam politicians in lower chambers of the Lamazanii government. Unofficially, the two families are allies, bound by friendship, not marriage.

"The City of Broken Hopes, Broken Dreams and Full Pockets"

Image
Overlooking the Ponotiria District of Lamazanii, probably one of the poorest yet most populated districts in all of Lamazanii. Home to about 14,000 people.

Founded: 408 AR
Founder: Freka "the Honest" Luksja
Municipal Government Structure: Elective Republic, 4 year terms, only political parties may participate
Current Government Leader: Head Elective Alamse [Lowborn; the Militarist Party]
Population: 3.1 Million
Ownership: Duke Dakamira Seakk [Liege: King Arosgam XII]
De Jure Kingdom: The Kingdom of Artosgome
Military Size: 11,000 Levies - 1,800 City Watchmen - 410 Galleys - 130 Trade Ships
Brief History:

Founded in 408 AR, the Grand City of Lamazanii (a title given to cities when they reach 1 million citizens, Lamazanii one of the only cities to receive such an honour) was established in the East Host Bay, a large bay whose basin stretches far into the eastern parts of Artosgome. Originally, Lamazanii was to act as a fortress city, defending against the barbarians to the north and south of East Host Bay. Following numerous subjugation wars and the creation of the Dukedom of East Rakiirm [3 counties, the county of East Host Bay, the county of Grainlands and the county of Isilgraik], Lamazanii lost its military importance. However, what it lost in military importance, it gained in economical.

East Host Bay, due to its location to the Paseral Sea, was one of the only safest landing spots on the entire eastern coast. Following contact with the far eastern Xujaksi Empire, Lamazanii, along with its sister cities the Grand City of Olmiak (way far north) and the City of Darsgrad (about 2 days travel to the south) both grew economically powerful. Their borders expanded and population swelled as work began to open up for the unemployed across the kingdom.

Lamazanii, unlike other cities also provides a large military levy to its Duke, taking a meagre 11,000 levies from their entire population (not including crew for the galleys and their own private army, the city watch), Lamazanii boasts an impressive decent recruitment basis for the armies of Artosgome. Their levies are armed with good quality equipment and trained prior to their call-up intensely by the veterans who live in the city.

"What is a House Without a Roof?"

Image
Although it looks like a regular country manor from the front, in the back the Manor of Lions spreads out into multiple different buildings such as the armoury for the personal guard stationed there, living quarters for servants, family, recreation, dining room, gardens and more.

Ownership: House of Syanlins
Built: 798 AR
Size: 130,000 Feet Squared, 64,000 Feet Squared of Living Space
Brief History:

Built by Tieasdem Syanlins in 798 AR, the Manor of Lions has been the centre place for House Syanlins' economic, military and political plans as well as a place that is always safe for the Syanlins. The Manor houses a 150-man garrison, but has never been attacked before. Despite the threat of an attack on the Syanlins, the manor never saw the introduction of walls and keeps its open feeling with its multiple buildings and acres of land.

As well, there are two villages located not far from the manor that reside under Syanlins control: the villages of St. Groakis and Crow Stream.
These villages were formed about 130 years following the creation of the manor.

Character Name: Villem Syanlins

Nickname (If Any): The Bastard

Titles (If Any):

Age: 32

Appearance (Description or Picture): 6'1”, 205 lbs. Green eyes, medium length blonde hair.

Personality: Outgoing carouser, well known in taverns and brothels. Loyal to his family and friends.

Strengths:
  • Fighter – Villem is well schooled in the arts of combat. Though he favors a long sword and shield, he is also been taught how to fight with pole-arms, great swords, twinned swords and atop a mount. He has lead armsmen of the Syanlins in numerous skirmishes, earning the respect of more common men.
  • Hunter – Because of his greater freedom when younger, Villem was given ample opportunity to learn how to hunt. Stealth, patience and a steady bow hand have been combined with great knowledge of the forests near Lamanzanii have made him one of the best hunters in the city.
  • Quick – Much as his half brother, Villem is able to think on his feet, finding creative ways of solving problems or outsmarting opponents in combat.
  • Knowledgeable of Pagan Ways – There are many pagans who yet haunt the forests and villages of Artosgome, each with their own practices and systems of belief and superstition. Villem knows much of it, though how he came of it and to the extents of his knowledge are unknown to others.
Weaknesses (Minimum 2):
  • Bastard – Villem was excluded from inheritance due to being born a bastard, and is looked down upon by others for his status. He has little prospect for a good marriage, and is dependent on Aser's good will to continue living in the Syanlins manor. His social status among the great houses is further injured by rumors his mother was a pagan or of pagan stock.
  • No Business Sense – Though he was given tutelage in many other areas, Villem never studied matters of business or finance. Though he could eek out a base living if cut off, he would not be able to maintain the lifestyle to which he has become accustomed.
Equipment (If Any): Long sword, shield, recurve longbow

Biography: Villem was born to a servant in the Syanlins house that Picarry favored prior to his marriage to Georgia. She had been sent away from the manor with some money to keep her quiet. Villem's mother raised him as best she could, but grew ill when he was eight years old. Knowing she would soon pass from the world, she sent Villem with a letter revealing his relationship to Picarry to the manor. Though he was scorned by Georgia, Picarry welcomed Villem into his house.

Villem was scorned by Georgia, who feared he would rob her own children of their deserved inheritance, but was not so by Aser. The greatest point of contention between them while growing up was that Villem could get out of any tutoring sessions he didn't care for (since he would never be Picarry's heir) while Aser could not. Villem used this greater freedom to become even more adept at combat, hunting and the many other activities practiced by young boys for the fun of it.

When later reaching adulthood, Villem has come into full realization of the limits of his station. He seeks status amongst more common men that he can never attain amongst the great houses by proving himself through force of arms, ability to carouse and generosity for his friends.

You gunning for that mean and badass uncle role?

Character Name: Villem Syalins

  • Knowledgeable of Pagan Ways – There are many pagans who yet haunt the forests and villages of Europe, each with their own practices and systems of belief and superstition. Villem knows much of it, though how he came of it and to the extents of his knowledge are unknown to others.
Weaknesses (Minimum 2):
  • Bastard – Villem was excluded from inheritance due to being born a bastard, and is looked down upon by others for his status. He has little prospect for a good marriage, and is dependent on Ares's good will to continue living in the Syanlins manor.

Pretty much, yeah. Perhaps he'll hold or have held an important security or military role. Probably won't be married, since I can't RP a good wife NPC.

Gotcha.

So what do you want to know about the families (the extra information)? Just fleshing out the who's who for the existing families and adding the other families?

Basically, I want backgrounds. What is the history of each family? What power bases do they derive their political and social clout from? Any details, really.

Tell me more about the setting, as well.

Sure, I can do the backgrounds in a bit.

Character Name: Job (Pronounced "Jobe," but without the "e") Syanlin.

Nickname (If Any): The Stallion of Artosgome.

Titles (If Any): Knight of the Military Order of Artosgome; Lord.

Age: 42.

Appearance: Job.

Personality: Job simply does not have trust for people he is unfamiliar with, though he does not express this fact overtly. He is loyal to the Syanlin line, to a point, but his true loyalties lie with his kingdom. In his interactions with others, he is noted as being a very kind, respectful being, though he can be blunt and even hostile when the situation calls for it. He is ever-suspicious of those outside of his family line, though he knows that too much suspicion could spill over into his outward personality, and poison his image. He is mindful of mannerisms, how people present themselves, and other facets that express people. He understands the desires of people, and using this skill in good faith has made him popular with both the rank-and-file levymen and military officers of the kingdom.

Strengths: - Job is a seasoned warrior, having begun his fighting career at the age of 14 as a simple squire, though from the ages of 16 to 20 he was a foot soldier. His preferred weapon is the sword, though he has also been instructed in the care and usage of the handaxe, the lance, the pike, and the bow. In close combat, he is a vicious combatant, always leading from the front and never giving in to his fear. As is customary among noble families, he began his knighthood training as a boy. He is also skilled at mounted combat.

- Among the military establishment, the courageous officer is highly regarded by both the nobles and the common men. Despite his father's opposition, he started his career in the bowls of the military force at the age of 16. By 20, he had already earned plenty praise from his superiors for his courage, his charisma on the battlefield, and his quick grasp of military strategy and tactics during their fight against the northern barbarians, prompting the king to knight the young warrior. The next 20 years have seen him rise from a lowly noble knight to become an esteemed general in the ranks of the military, advocating for the needs of the military to the nobility, which led to improved training and pay in the military.

- Job is an individual who cannot help but analyze and understand everything. During his knighthood training, his instructor had taught the young boy to be aware of how his enemy fought, and to constantly adapt his fighting style in order to better combat the enemy. He put this skill to great use as a levyman when fighting the barbarians, and it was further honed as he continued his military career. Outside of the battlefield, it was immensely useful when interacting with others.

Weaknesses (Minimum 2): - Unknown to all, Job suffers from an affliction of the mind that is not fully understood, though future study of this affliction would discover Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has seen unbridled carnage, and he himself has done horrible things that have left him mentally scarred. Thankfully, his rigorous training as a youth has prevented him from completely losing his fight. The most prevalent symptom would be his recurring nightmares, forcing him to constantly relive the carnage and mayhem that he has witnessed. From time to time, he can grow unresponsive, embroiled in a flashback of some past battle. On rare occasions, he has lashed out at others for no reason whatsover.

- Job's other weakness would be his debauchery. He commonly indulges in alcohol, hashish, and pleasures of the flesh. Nothing else to really say.

Equipment: His equipment varies, as he is no longer a standing officer in the military. He is never without his blade, which is a steel bastard sword. When in combat, his armor depends on his affiliation. When fighting for his family alone, he usually chooses a jack-o-plait setup (think Dawnguard armor from Skyrim), while he dons a much more protective plate armor setup when he is fighting for his kingdom. He has been known to wear the jack-o-plait in more "clandestine" military operations, especially ones that require him to fight aboard a ship.

Biography: Job Syanlins was luckily born in to the Syanlins Family lineage, the nephew of the current patriarch. He lived a rather comfortable life among the nobility as a child, receiving basic tutoring up until the age of 8, when his parents placed him under the care of Sir Roderic Mercer, a wealthy knight who had agreed to take the young lad in as a Page to learn the ways of Knighthood. He spent 4 years as a Page, receiving thorough educational instruction, rigorous martial training, the code of chivalry, and strict discipline and bearing from Sir Roderic, who intended to ensure that the young man would be ready for the rigors of combat. Job learned learned his skills quickly and his resilience grew, allowing him to endure much of the physical and mental abuse. At the age of 13, he made a squire of Sir Roderic.

His responsibilities soon placed him as a personal steward to his master, where he truly began to learn the path he had been embarking on. At the age of 14, he got his first taste of combat, carrying the colors of his master into battle against a hastily-assembled militia of rebelling peasants. The conflicts were relatively low-intensity and quick, doing little more than pumping up the young squire. He enjoyed the thrill of battle at the time, the adrenaline pumping through his veins as he and his master rode into combat, steadily clapping his coconut halves. A bond of trust grew between the two, and Job was eventually allowed to travel on his own around the city, actively spending time with his family and getting into all sorts of youthful trouble. He was enjoying life, until he was suddenly railroaded by reality.

Out of nowhere,Job was stripped of his title, and Sir Roderic forcibly conscripted into the military. Much to Job's disgust at being betrayed by his master, his parents sided with Sir Roderic. He had no idea why Roderic would do such a thing, but he decided that he had nothing better to do than fight. He received further training as a levy, before he was sent up north to battle barbarians as part of a military operation to secure the borders of the kingdom. the conflict was brutal and terrifying, even for Job. He became much more fierce, distinguishing himself in the brutal wilderness fighting that dominated the conflict. For four years, he remained isolated from his fighting as he began to feel a greater loyalty to the men around him than he felt for his lineage.

During one particular battle, he was reunited with his former master, as the two proved themselves to be paramount in repulsing a barbarian charge. It was on that day that he truly learned why he had been unexpectedly stripped of his squirehood; Sir Roderic intended for his protege to truly see warfare at its most brutal form, to see the world for what it truly was. He passed his test, and he attested to the battlefield knighting as the proudest moment of his life. Upon returning home, he was welcomed with open arms.

His military career only took him to greater heights, and he showed deft skill at all forms of land combat, particularly in terms of mounted combat. Even as a general, he led his horsemen and knights from the front, and he was branded as "The Stallion" by the nobility. He was a staunch advocate for the military faction of the kingdom, tirelessly fighting for their rights as though he was back up north. In recent days, his attention has shifted to the rivals of his family, as he feels that the power balance must be maintained.
