Well, one of the major factors in their defeats in WW2 is poor leadership. Italy being unprepared and having outdated weaponry didn't help things either...not to mention Italy has less raw resources and way less industry than the other powers...anyway, by the Ethiopian campaign do you mean the first war, or the second, or the one in WW2, or what?

Outdated? Italian Equipment was the best adapted to Desert Conditions in the war.
But yes. Poor leadership and poor morale played a significant role.
