Occupied Deutschland wrote:The thought came back to haunt her almost as soon as she attempted to exit the library. Some tiny klutz had managed to bump herself into another student so hard as to actually fall over. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad. Still, Umber couldn’t be too amused. She’d gone through her own awkward period years before as well. She’d once managed to bump an Atlas teacher’s SCROLL out of his hands so hard it had broken when it hit the floor. That had been embarrassing. Particularly since he’d been taking roll-call at the time. This kid had lucked out, she was in a library and there were only a handful of people to see the fall rather than an entire class.
“—Help—“ The voice was scratchy and electronic, with no inflection that might belie whether it was a request or an offer. Compensating for the failing of her new voice, Umber extended the hand not at her neck controlling it to the girl who had fallen to make it clear she was making an offer. To be doubly certain, she cocked an eyebrow. There was a familiar heat rising in her cheeks, but there was nothing she could do to combat it. It still happened whenever she ‘spoke’ around anyone new. But it didn’t really matter. She very well wasn’t going to write down such a simple offer of help on a SCROLL. If for no other reason than doing that would be even more ridiculous than asking in her unnatural voice.
If she could get used to it, other people could as well.
Umber’s eyes flicked to the boy—Togami, if she remembered correctly—and she gave him a quick scan. Some Faunus bi—girl had been hanging over him moments before, but she’d continued on her way. Umber couldn’t say she was unhappy with that, much as that wasn’t a ‘proper’ thing to admit. He looked rather dazed, however.
“—You—“ Umber ‘said’, tilting her head slightly at the boy.
Jolana gripped Umber's hand and helped herself up with little effort - she didn't have far to go from 'on her ass' to 'standing', and she didn't weigh much either.
"Th-th-th-th-thank y-you," she managed to get out. Who was she again? I recognize her - hard to miss someone who needed an electronic device to speak at all, but I can't remember her name... something with a U.... hm... Urdina? Urrea? Umbridge?
"U-U-Umber, right?"
