Jackson took a deep breath as he gazed at the Emerald Forest before him. Indeed, the cliff was magnificent, with the forest stretching as far as the horizon, but he wasn't there to enjoy it. In his hand was a weapon that was clearly not his Apertor. Instead, it was more of a prototype blade with a similar design motif that he had been working on for many days. Turning his body away from the forest and towards the targets that were set up nearby, he got into a combat stance and prepared himself for the moment where he will hack those targets to pieces. He hoped that this was it.
Charging towards the targets, Jackson took a dash and sliced a few of the stationary targets. So far, so good. The sword was cutting like it was supposed to, and it's weight was manageable for someone like him. He should probably work on his handle grip — it seemed like it could need a little more lengthening — but hey, that was trial and error. After cutting down the stationary targets, he proceeded to take on the moving targets that were going back and forth across a certain contraption. Wanting to test his weapon's alternate configuration, he held the sword with both hands and the blade suddenly retracted in a mechanical and automated fashion.
However, one of the moving parts locked, and it felt like it was already heating up. In fact, it heated up to the point where the handle became hot to the touch. By his reflexes he dropped the weapon, and it fell to the ground with a thud. Smoke was starting to come out of the "half-sword-half-gun," followed by a loud pop. Jackson placed his palm over his head and sighed to himself as he tilted his head up to the clouds. Not again…
En route to the Cafeteria
"To be honest, I never really understood what Professor Lewiston was trying to say," Carmina walked beside Avena with her hands behind her head. To her, history may be interesting, but it was certainly hard to connect the dots with everything. "I mean, I get the Faunus War and all, but I don't see how the Battle at Fort Castle was exactly a turning point and stuff like that — you know what I mean, right?"
"Not really," Leif followed behind, placing his hands on his roaring belly. "All I could think of is my stomach. By the way, have you seen Jackson around?"
Carmina shrugged. "I dunno, he said he was going to catch up with us later." She has no idea where the fox faunus went off to, but she hoped that he can keep his word. Hopefully he won't skip lunch like last time, or like many times before.
Other students just like them were also heading to the cafeteria to have lunch. For many, the cafeteria is an opportunity to get to know classmates better outside of class and talk about a plethora of things, since they don't have to deal with the teacher eyeing them and calling them out. Plus, for a cafeteria it has pretty good food — perhaps too good, even by Hunter academy standards.
She may have spotted a certain student in her class going to the cafeteria as well — someone that may have attended the same class earlier. She must be; after all she did seem familiar to her. Was that Anna? She decided to get her attention. "Hey Anna," she greeted. "Guessing you're hungry as well, huh? Wanna come eat with us?"
" Yeah, I don't really get it either. " Avena chimed in, her hands deep in the pockets of her targeted leather jacket. " I just think Faunus are badass as hell. The things that some of them are capable of are totally awesome. Kinda makes me wish I was one...with out all the racism." Avena paused for a moment. " Then again, history and social divides are not really my thing. I prefer fighting to equal rights. I don't care who's a Faunus or not. I'm all about the bang bang pow." She said as she moved her hand around like a gun.
Avena glanced at Leif when he mentioned their missing leader, Jackson. " Yeah, where is out fearless leader?" Avena said as she looked around. " I swear, he's been rather off for the past few weeks, almost as soon as I gained Severance. He is one moody Faunus." She said as they entered the cafeteria. She followed Carmina up to where Anna was sitting alone. She had a big smile on her face as Carmina asked Anna to join her. " Come on, join us! We can tell each other badass moments in the field!" Avena said as she got right up to Anna's face, a few centimeters for touching foreheads.
