Navy paid for the cybernetic replacements but then deischarged him after he fell into a bout of heavy drinking and use of prostitutes, and was considered soon "mentally unfit for duty" due to depression from his experiences.

After the navy discharged him, he drunk and f%^*ed all his money away and then one night his ex girlfriend came and visited him leaving him one gift which was a way into the orbital police corps. After that she left leaving him still depressed but able to at least do something with his life again.
