Short Bio: Born in Belfast, Ulster, MacBrien grew up in a strongly Catholic family - And true to their nationalist roots. An Irish citizen from birth, he remained in the British system for eighteen years before applying to join the Irish Army. Having completed his training, MacBrien served for five years with two tours of relatively peaceful duty on peacekeeping operations. Prompted by his fellow comrades he applied for the Irish Rangers and, after a year of intense training, was accepted into their elite ranks. This was not to last. Deployed to oversee disturbance in a Viir camp on the Isle of Man, as part of a multinational operation, he found himself questioning his orders and unable to maintain his loyalty. Forced away by his conscience, MacBrian looked to the 389th for a new life.

Full Bio: MacBrien's parents were both Irish Catholics in the heart of Belfast, and fierce ones at that. Though his father largely kept his hands clean, MacBrien's uncle was arrested at twenty three for involvement with the IRA - A resurgent organisation as demographics in the north had slipped away from Protestant control in the early twenty-first century. With the renewed violence, bigotry re-birthed itself too and for either side life was not easy. MacBrien himself was born in Ardoyne, once a viciously divided area but now shielded from the urban front line. As per Irish policy, his parents ensured he received the Republican citizenship he was entitled to - A citizen of Éire, of the Republic, not of Britain, not of the monarchy.

As a child, he attended the local state school which was once again predominantly Catholic. In such a close minded community, despite the school being "British" in administrative regards, almost all the students saw themselves as Irish - Including MacBrien. Throughout his education, a largely successful education at that, he looked to the south for his future. To this extent he even left the local Scouts and learnt to shoot with a pardoned IRA man, later arrested for supposedly training new recruits - Not far from his role with MacBrien.

At eighteen, MacBrien finally left the United Kingdom and applied to join the Irish Army. The step across the border was a step of acceptance, a rejection of his birth in favour of his mind, and he took it willingly. In the first few weeks of training, MacBrien found his footing easily enough - though not without gruel - and cemented his loyalty to his nation. He passed basic training with flying colours, joining the ranks as a promising soldier.

Throughout the first seven years of his service, MacBrien saw foreign lands twice. First involved in peacekeeping operations in Mexico, he saw little action, before partaking in military supervision of conflict in Iraq. There, his squad was involved in minor engagements with hostile locals and militia on a number of occasions without casualties on their side. Having proved himself a loyal soldier, a calm head and a good shot, upon return to Ireland MacBrien was referred to the selection process for the Irish Rangers.

To any man, such a test was a shock. Like all others, MacBrien was forced to his absolute limit, stretched taught mentally and physically, and then pulled twice further again. His Sergeants dragged him all over Ireland, forcing him down cliff faces in full body armour and monitoring his every breath in the gym. For MacBrien, failure was not an option. For others, it was an inevitability. Out of the original group of three, just forty made it through the first few weeks. Then, only after another year of training, MacBrien was a Ranger.

Within a year he was deployed to the Congo as part of a multinational peacekeeping team. One of the largest Viir camps in the region had erupted into violence, as guards had drawn the ire of some of the clan's more militant members - Allegedly having harmed one of their kin. The force of mercenaries and veteran guardsmen had been forced to withdraw quickly, chased out with extreme prejudice. Already, an advance force of American SEALs and Marines had begun to retake control of the camp's outskirts but MacBrien was part of a second force sent to seal off the remainder and begin advancing inwards.

At first, the operation was smooth. Though the Viir made their hatred obvious, the heavily armed soldiers faced little challenge. However two days into the operation, the camp spanning miles and containing millions of Viir, a French platoon were forced into opening fire upon a group of Viir who had hurled incendiary devices at them. Violence erupted. MacBrien and his squad took shelter in a small hamlet of tents, isolated by uncut rainforest, but were quickly surrounded as Viir swarmed the nearby trees. With no other options, they began to attack, driving their way through the neverending mass of Viir. Barely escaping, the Rangers reformed at their rendezvous point with a contingent of SAS soldiers. There, they were given the order to retake the camp within the next few days and enforce absolute curfew. Any Viir on the streets were to be shot on site. Meanwhile, American attack craft were brought in to cover their advance.

Within hours it had become a bloodbath. Though MacBrien hesitated to shoot the Viir as they fled before him, others did no and bodies lined the streets. Pockets of resistance were simply obliterated, precision missiles leaving no trace but devastation. With the original militants slaughtered, more Viir took up the cause as their friends and families were gunned down with absolute prejudice. Finally, the centre of the city fell to the combined forces.

However, it did not end. Officials were soon at work compiling a list of the Viir who had fought or led. Dragged out of their homes without trial, they were left in the street where their kin before them still bled. Internationally, the media who had been denied access were told that the Viir had attacked the advancing forces and civilian casualties had simply been an externality of the ensuing battle - A story only half true. With the order to take out a Viir leader, MacBrien found many of his comrades encouraging him to include the Viir's family in the death toll. He snapped.

Using the extensive transport network set up to provide to the multinational operation, MacBrien made it out of the Congo before any knew he had gone. Presumed missing in action, a legacy of heroic death will turn to cowardly desertion if he sets foot in Éire again. With other work limited, he looked to join one of the many mercenary police forces employed globally. He has not made public to any in the organisation his experience, rather relying upon his ace of the Corps' training to grant him respect and a new job.
