Seeing as Turkey is Secular/Sunni and Iran is a Shia Theocracy, I would say Turkey would remain independent. Turkey has always been very secular and quite left wing (particularity along the coast) so i think Turkey could work as a counter to Iran in the region.

History
During the 1990s depression, the RP began to lose its grip on the country. This gave rise to Islamist elements in the North and center and socialist movements in along the coast and in Kurdistan. Riots broke out in all cities, but the largest were in Istanbul and Ankara. With the economy continuing to shrink and more people becoming unemployed, the socialist TKP became more and more popular. Eventually, after rioters stormed in June 1998 to the GNA and demanded an immediate election. The President complied and in the 1998 election, the TKP stormed to victory.
