Seeing all these Muslim powers in Asia, I think I may go for a traditional spiritual approach to Japan, or perhaps make Orthodox Christianity and Buddhism go hand in hand. Like perhaps a mix of the two.

There's a Buddhist state in Southeast Asia. In actuality, there's only four Muslims in the game, tartar and Berber, which are Sunni and Persia and China which are Shiite

There is China and Tatary, but other than that I cannot think of any regional threats big enough to be considered that well big and bad.

There is China and Tatary, but other than that I cannot think of any regional threats big enough to be considered that well big and bad.

Not sure if Japan'll really shift that balance. Will be looking more towards Pacific domination and New World west coast.

Though, whoever plays China, would it be alright if I included several profitable trade routes with both you and Korea? To perhaps explain some of the modernization in Japan at the time. Though, it'll still be going through a slight identity crisis between the more traditional affluent families and the ready-to-modernize government.

I dont think my Tarsal Kingdom idea will get accepted. After all i am just a tiny 2 Province state on the map squished between Poland and the Byzantines and he probably wants more "Big countries"

Lorraine would not make much sense, seeing as I own it.

Palatinate then. Other options would be a Kingdom of Taurica between Tatary/P-L/Byz, a Miaphysite Kingdom of Armenia, Mali Empire, but I'm unsure which. Probably not a huge state, since I've always found medium-small nations a lot more interesting and easier to handle.
