The main infantry corps of the Songhai army is the Line infantry. They were brought about after the defeat of the Moroccan invasion force in 1591. The commander Imer Haskai became king after overthrowing Askia Ishaq II, and he saw the immediate need to modernize the empires armies after fighting with the moors. The line infantry are well equipped with older Moorish firearms and imported 'Brown Bess' land pattern British muskets.

Just to say, the 'Brown Bess' as we know it wasn't in service until 1722. Sorry I couldn't leave that unnoticed because I quite like the history of the development of weaponry.

What, you mean be invaded by both? Rhineland could be Protestant or Catholic, but whichever it goes with it'll have an enemy in the other branch, especally considering that A-B/Netherlands are Catholic/Protestant respectively so Rhineland could become a deciding power in Central Europe. Lemme see population and stuff first.

Population seems to be between 9-11 million, depending if I take the parts in Italy/Switzerland as well. Only problem I really have is what to call it; Rhineland wouldn't make sense since the Rhine only occupies the northern part, Burgundy is too far to the east, Lombardy only occupies the southern part, and otherwise there's never been any large states in that region I could use.

Quite frankly we have nothing much in South America and Africa. Also Asia could perhaps do with a little more filling, or more Native tribes in North America.

Bengal, Siam and most of the land of the Tuangoo Dynasty are open if you'd like to be in South/East Asia.

I like Lotharingia. It has a nice sound to it and doesn't really have a geographic connotation like Rhineland or Francia.

A Kingdom of the Kongo could be a good, especially one that buddied up the Portugal and is a little more technologically advanced than the rest of Africa, similar to what was actually going on there.
