I'll take a stab at questions...

Ripples can go either way, depending on how the player words their post and what it is. An exploding shrew detonating in Point Park would be negative. Characters playing guitars to amuse people would be positive. Building the park will gain attention, and is a positive thing, but can also attract negative attention from those that hate everything to do with Abs.

Regarding Kale's magic... bear in mind that Kale does have a character flaw on her app. "Overdoes things. Often causes 'Unforeseen Consequences' like raging plant minions or rampant uncontrolled growth. Possibly gets more paradox when it is gained." Kale has been popping plant creatures from seeds and having them operate exactly as she wants them, but Carly's posts do not allow OP/CoOPs the chance to determine if Kale has that intended result. This has built up a metric crapton of paradox. The flower magic trick thing would be a positive thing unless the OP/CoOPs roll the paradox dice and the result is those plants exploding into violence outside of Kale's control. :p

Slo, I don't see it as limiting provided Sandy doesn't cause destruction or attract negative attention. The Market District is pretty esoteric and it's accustomed to strange things and to strange beings walking around.

Yup. I was trying to do two things at once and failed with reading Cer's post. :P It's back to Plan A for Sandy. 8)

I'll have Adri remove her horn and cut off her tail in order to have a chance at blending in as a human (excessive use of hood and dark lighting to help), as for Elka... I'll think on that.

Fair enough. Just trying to think of ways to minimize risk for her. Smoking her way across town and riding the wind would be a possibility, though she'd arrive at her destination exhausted and ready to collapse... Gives me something to think about overnight, at least.

On Post Blocking

It's come to the attention of several PL players and the PL staff that post blocking is becoming an issue in PL. It always has been, really, and it's about time some guidelines and rules were set down so that players are able to keep up with the RP and minimal time-skipping and consequences are needed to keep players moving and to keep the plot from stagnating. Without further ado, let's begin:

What is a post block?

Post blocks are times when a group of players role-playing a scene are stopped from posting because a minority (usually one, sometimes two) of players is not posting and thus the rest have to wait for them to post. Post blocks result in the need to time-skip, manipulate other player's characters to get the story moving, and general nastiness and unnecessary bureaucratic paperwork for the OP and CoOPs when it comes time to get the RP moving again. In short, they're not fun for anyone.

Post blocks are usually identified after a prolonged, unexpected period of player absence (not posting for two or three days without any heads-up that the player will be unavailable, for instance). Otherwise, players who state that they cannot post usually have characters parked (that is, removed from the scene and stored safely for the player to pick up later) or can ask other players to manipulate their characters for them to avoid the block. Blocking occurs when players do not give a heads-up, resulting in the others being unable to respond and/or park or manipulate the character for fear of angering or misunderstanding the player's intentions.

How does one avoid post blocking?

It's quite simple, really! Just follow a few simple tips:

  • Check the OOC thread (the one you're reading this post on right now) for regular updates from other players.
  • Read the IC thread regularly so you don't fall behind on the plot.
  • If you're afraid you missed anything, don't hesitate to drop a "What did I miss?" post in the OOC thread so that players can fill you in.
  • Post regularly and at a reasonable pace for all your characters to ensure none of them get stuck and force other players to stop posting.

What's "regularly"? How do I know what a reasonable posting schedule looks like?

Regular posting is hard to fully define since everyone has a different schedule and some people tend to put more time into individual posts than others do. As a good rule-of-thumb, regular posts should happen at least every-other-day if not once-a-day. Anything less than that will cause players to grind to a halt as they wait for a character to catch up and result in necessary time-skipping to make sure the PL time frame keeps up with RL time, which is necessary for certain events and to make the setting easier to understand and relate to.

For posting purposes, the PL staff (OP and CoOP) will count as a single posting entity. Since they have to deal with RP bureaucratic cleanup and updating threads and stories, they will individually post at a reduced rate but should be able to, combined, keep up with the one-post-per-day rule.

Please note that while the OP and CoOP count as a single posting entity, do not expect them to play each other's characters or all the NPCs. Not all the staff are comfortable with all the characters or familiar with all the NPCs and thus if one cannot post the other is not ignoring you if he/she posts for only characters he/she is familiar with rather than for all the characters that need posting. Posts will come in time and the staff are more than willing to cooperate if your character is held up by staff characters or NPCs being unable to reply to your post.

Most importantly, what are the consequences of post blocking?

Post blocking is a serious offense in RPs as it stops other players from roleplaying and seriously hampers motivation and ability to keep the roleplay moving. If a character or characters are post blocking for a sufficient amount of time, prompting a time-skip, their characters will suffer the consequences of whatever they were doing. If they were in danger or in a situation where a time-skip would put them in danger, killing them off is not out-of-the question.

Please, try and keep up with all your characters. If you cannot, the staff will be happy to let you shelve a few while you work things out. And if you don't do that, they'll be more than happy to take them off your hands and reassign them to daisy-pushing duty. And no one wants that.

Thanks, and good RPing!

The opposition is less active during the day, FWIW. It's also not clear to me how much the rogue USiPo care about random people using magic... it just makes us visible to them. There's the related question of how much they can act on too, since they need to avoid being caught by the rest of their organization.

Edit: some of the characters have vehicles, which helps the problem somewhat.

Time Skippage of Timely Timeness!

We've had requests to skip to the next day. Players want to get out and about, perhaps exploring or else working on things. This will break up stalled conversations and allow us to park non-participating characters.

The Resistance Groups will be meeting in a few IC days. Players are encouraged to free form until then. Some free forms currently in play or in the works:
  • Silent Hill
  • Targquest
  • Explore the City (go see Slo or Tilt if you want your character to join with theirs)

I'll do a SITREP in a few.

OP/CoOP STUFF:
  • Players have expressed an interest in exploring. Coordinate with Slo and Tilt if you want to be part of their group. Otherwise, form up your own group. I'll be the one describing what they encounter, so please try to keep your characters grouped together so I'm not overworked.
  • Make sure you send links to Cer if: you're missing a character or a tab, your one shot isn't linked, or you don't have an apartment number
  • If you haven't let Cer know about your goal/event, now is the time. Otherwise, it ain't happening.
  • Free form play is in effect. This is a good opportunity to establish canon.
  • *A note on the date: Carly expressed an interest in doing something with her character for spring equinox. The IC date is March 19. We're fudging it. The following IC day will be March 20. Just bear in mind what was said earlier about ripples, if things are to transpire outside the Building.

Primary Skill or Power: Dragon Riding.

Power Weaknesses/Flaws: None because he doesn’t have a power

Secondary Skill or Power: Understanding dragons. (As in he understands what they’re trying to communicate)

Power Weaknesses/Flaws: Again, not a power.

Character Background/Biography: Draxis was separated from his parents at a very young age. At just a few months old, he was accidentally left behind when their traveling camp was attacked by bandits. It wasn’t intentional, his parents got carried away by the panicked crowd. Of course, he could never know that. A young Night Fury found him and took him back to the dragon’s nest, where they took care of him and raised him. Growing up together, he and the night fury were great friends. Like brothers, almost. Growing up under the care of dragons, he didn’t learn to speak english until he was 13, when he and SilentWing went out to explore, and they found a town full of people. Staying out of sight, he came to the town day after day, observing the people, finally understanding why he was so different from the dragons. He learned a few words just from listening, and one day, he actually entered the town. People weren’t all too happy to see the Night Fury, but they quickly realized the odd pair were no threat. Draxis stayed with the humans for a while, learning their language, before finally returning to his home with the dragons. He and SilentWing spend a lot of time exploring, and that is how they came across Bielefeld, after getting lost in a bad storm.

Why the character is in Bielefeld/Occupation: To live there for a while and check it out.

IMPORTANT:
One paragraph that sums up your character: Draxis is shy and reserved, and generally keeps to himself around people, until he gets used to them. Then he’s crazy and fun-loving. His English is a bit limited, and he has a strange accent that is sort of...hissy.

IMPORTANT:
One paragraph that sums up your character: SilentWing is like a puppy and a cat mixed together. Imagine like Toothless if you’ve seen How to Train Your Dragon. He is playful and curious, but protective of Draxis, and the humans he comes to care about.

Both approved. All I ask is that you imply an accent rather than attempting to add it to written dialog.

[from earlier OOC post] Klaus und his Men haff heffy German akzents. It bekomen sie confuzink ven vee ofervelm das reader viz zem, ja? hehehe. [/end]

We need to fudge their arrival because we have players "cluttering" the area outside the Building. Just place them as suddenly arriving in the lobby itself. I'll update tabs later due to my limited time online tonight (Swith, add that to my to-do list, please).

NVE was in the middle of doing something right outside the Building. We were waiting on Swith, but she passed back to NVE on the condition that she gets to post the outcome moments after his characters activate their device. We're a bit frozen as NVE's thing is time sensitive.

@NVE. Go ahead and do your thing please. We need to roll over to the next day. I'm vetoing Swith's thing and USiPO notice in order to make that happen, and so you can bring Velocidoctor in. See next paragraph.

@All. Please keep in mind that any strange activity, be it magic or SCIENCE!, will gain USiPO attention if done in the open. Everything done by characters at this point will become a ripple that will either positively or negatively impact the setting and all other characters.

It was my plan to imply an accent rather than typing it, don't worry :P

Edelweiss and Reina, the two previous ones are still alive. None of Tsuyoi Tekikoku's leaders are killed in their duels of succession.

I don't use NS stats.

I'd prefer the pronouns she/her,if your referring to me
