Well at least we have a word for "parkade", and for "tuque", and for "poutine".

Canadian English has lots of useful terms.

Indian English has "prepone".

I generally keep my English on NS free of Indian-isms. That one creeps in on occasion though.

The problem is that I'm not always sure of whether a word in my vocabulary is Standard English or a Canadianism. Sometimes I have to look things up to make sure, but there have probably been a couple of times before when words have slipped by me unnoticed.

And of course, there are also the words that I'm pretty sure don't have an equivalent in other dialects (or all the quasi-synonyms that are from other dialects sound too weird and I don't want to use any of them) (see tuque), and then I have a dilemma on my hands. And the words that refer to something that only has a word for it in Canada, because the referred-to thing doesn't exist in other countries (see poutine, loonie, toonie, reserve, chinook). I'm not always sure what to do with those.

I can't think of any "Australian" words I've used here, or that I even normally use. Maybe "cooee" but that's not even Australia-specific, necessarily.

That makes sense. I personally prefer Commonwealth spelling in most cases, but in cases where the Canadian manner of saying something is the same as the American manner and different from the British manner (e.g. "math" vs. "maths"), I use the Canadian/American manner.

See, and people wonder why things like apartheid were able to go so long; it's hard to organize a resistance movement when everyone is making words up.
