I came here seeking advice on how to do my OP thread. If you will not help, I will HOPE i do it right, having no experience as an OP.

Nat: Night's always in some bizarre state somewhere between "intoxicated enough to kill a hair metal lead singer" and "annoying Mormon missionary sober".
Swith: It's because you're so awesome. God himself refreshes the screen before he types just to see if Nightkill has written anything while he was off somewhere else.

Cons of Besiege: It's really hard to control flying machines and it needs a decent graphics card to run. Integrated cards aren't nearly good enough.
Another con; it costs money, and for a poor bugger like me, that means torrent is the automatic recourse, but for the fact that my dad doesn't want torrent software on our computers.Astrolinium wrote:

More manipulative than Joffrey isn't an achievement. He isn't smart enough to manipulate a pigeon into shitting on him, though that fact may well be blamed on his upbringing.

Eh, I kind of disagree with the "interest burn" theory, but the rest seems fairly accurate, I suppose.

Well, not all theories are perfect.
I took quite a lot of base in my experience, and I've seen a lot of people losing interest in my days. I appreciate criticism, though.

Yeah, I understand that. I don't contest that interest loss is one of the main culprits of widespread RP death. What I disagree with is, mostly, the statement that there is only so much interest a person has and that it must inevitably burn out.
Of course, it is entirely possible that I may be in the wrong here, since I too am drawing from my experiences and I could simply happen to have an unusually long attention span or something, but still, that's my opinion.
Nonetheless, good essay.

Fair enough.
I have one thing to say - if you're new to the subforum and you want to start a RP, DON'T read this essay. It will really turn you back. Feel free to read it when it dies, though, to see what could have been done better.

I know it wasn't directed at me but I was still rather amused to see it after you quoted me.
One thing I'd point out is that to me it seems unnecessary and a bit misleading to say things such as "The death of a roleplay begins when you click the Create Thread button" or "So it's your fault that it died - you created it", but that's just me.

Indeed. It's a bit like saying, "By giving birth you are causing the death of a person", IMHO.

I like this a lot. To be frank, I imagine a lot of people could have claimed to have known this, essentially, beforehand, but it's very good at putting it into words and elaborating where others might only have a more vague idea. Also, enjoy the inclusion of nation RPs, which usually doesn't happen anywhere except where they congregate. Only places where I disagree/criticise;
1. A reboot will only be less successful if it was influenced by the first one. If you reboot an RP that had a failed takeoff there's no reason it might not have better luck and take off into later stages. Or, if you reboot it in such a way that very fundamentally alters it, as in MiM 1 vs 2, or the reboot is simply a continuation for, perhaps, such purposes as changing OP.
2. Emphasis on players who leave is a tad much; a not-insignificant minority had structures that allow this to be much less significant, especially modular (i.e. portals connecting universes that are liable to shut off) or mechanic-based ones.
3. Some alternative models/ideas don't really fit in, to a degree (e.g. the overwhelmed OP, colliding visions for the direction of the RP, interest being leached to other RPs), though I can't blame you for leaving those out.
4. "even though being out of schedule lowered the hype a bit" actually, it was quite on scheduleI purposefully stretched the schedule to prevent myself from being overwhelmed by the "early craze". Addendum to that; perhaps you could do a bit more on the role hype plays, as well as on interest/planning threads, which is a somewhat more grey area.

I'm apparently also a socialist on social issues.
The Green Party is pretty wacky. Stay away from that stuff.
