No, that'd suck.

Yeah, that's a bit more of a direct form of self-insertion that I tend to like.

Nope. I've done plenty of blatant self-insert characters (basically any of my characters you've encountered with "copper hair" and an "athletic build" are straight-up Ularny-Sues) because wish-fulfilment can be fun but I've never...

...actually no, there was one time not long after I started RPing when I was taking part in a reboot of a Zombie RP over on the Escapist forums. My character in the original had been a self-insert. Then the RP was rebooted with all new characters so I decided to give my self-insert character a younger brother - my younger brother.

It's probably just as well the reboot died quickly. I doubt my brother would have been comfortable knowing what I was doing with him and I wasn't actually comfortable with the character either. It's one thing doing a self-insert to make myself look like a badass but here I kept wondering if I was writing what my brother would actually do or what I hoped he'd do, or just getting it wrong entirely, and any sort of error made me feel guilty about a) using my brother in the first place, and b) not knowing him well enough to use him properly.

Nope.

I mean, if I did, they'd probably be kind of interesting to RP from a writer's perspective, since I have a lot of pretty fucked up relatives and fucked up characters are fun to write. Then again, that might hit a little too close to home at times. There are many good reasons I don't talk to most of my family.

So, yeah. The most I've done is borrow an aspect of a family member's personality or appearance; I've never actually based a character on a family member.

And in regards to ancestors, I can only trace my lineage back about five generations or so on my mom's side, and only a couple generations on my father's and dad's sides (my father and my dad are different people). And even then, I don't know much about most of them; I only know tidbits I've heard from my mother and grandparents.
I wear teal, blue & pink for Swith.

Nah.

I mean, I've stolen ancestral names for characters, and used some of the old family tales as inspiration to give a few of my characters a back story, but never based them on any particular person. It might just be because deep down inside, I worry their spirits are hanging out somewhere, listening to my private thoughts.

I think you'd have far worse things to worry about if that were the case.

Anyway, no, I haven't. Though, I've got decent grounds to, for a historical RP, considering that Yang Ye fellow.

Not really, I'm planning on doing a semi-realistic FT RP with another group. So that kinda fills up my FT slot. Sorry tho.

If I say Girls und Panzer but with mainly Cold War era armour (Chieftains, T-72's, Leo1's and 2's, and Centurions) does this make any sense?

If they haven't added something to counter the dominance of 'i nook u' then it isn't worth playing.
