Well there was an All of Mexico movement and such, though if I recall correctly that the main goal of the Manifest destiny was to stretch from Atlantic to the Pacific.

Actually, unless Rnclave fortified Washington D.C. since the start of the rp, you would be able to take it while the sun is up, hypothetically speaking. In regards to Richmond, yes you would see them making trenches but you wouldn't be able to do anything about it, you are in a siege, you are having explosives lobbed into the city and your defenses, you can't really come out to fight them while they are entrenching themselves without mass casualties. I think a sufficient number of casualties would be inflicted on both the sieging and defending forces, as they are both going to be lobbing explosives and ammunition at one another and the fact that the sieging force became entrenched and the defenders are also well entrenched would lead the battle to be long and bloody for both sides.

Oh yeah something about American expansionism that isn't discussed in history is that Lincoln wanted to colonize Mexico with Freedmen to prevent racial conflict and to cement US control in northern Mexico.

I've taken 8th Grade American History, Modern World History, and Survey of 20th Century America, and I am absolutely certain that Manifest Destiny was the belief that America had the right and the responsibility to spread from the Atlantic to the Pacific, "from sea to shining sea." Anyone who says otherwise needs to go back to school.
