Napoleon III launched an invasion of Vietnam in 1861, and historically, it went on to 1862. But with Siam also invading Vietnam, it will end far earlier.

World War one is more than fifty years after the current time period, during a time in which the Ottomans had further stagnated, their naval forces were all but disbanded and the Ottoman Empire could no longer be considered a Great Power. However, considering the year is 1861, the technology to take the canal against the Ottomans would be all but impossible, especially considering they have the third most powerful navy during this time period, only after Britain and France, at 173 ships if you tried to force your way through the canal it would fail miserably and then you experience the full force of the Ottoman military, a military that at this time would be far superior to your in all but leadership.

Furthermore, I would like to make the point that my 'shitload' of internal problems isn't really as much of a shit load as it seems, the Ottoman Empire was modernizing at the same rate, if not at a faster rate, than many Eastern European countries, in fact even the Russian Empire/Tsardom wouldn't be as modernized as the Ottomans. There are 5 primary problems I face as the Ottomans, military leadership, modernization, which in itself isn't a very big problem as most nations are experiencing this, imperialist expansion against the Ottomans, corruption, and finally internal ethnic conflict, something I will deal with in my next post.

Despite what you might think of the Sick Man of Europe, the Ottoman Empire was an empire for a reason, their ideals, their technology, and their willingness to incorporate other cultures without destroying them, similar to the Mongol Empire, is a major reason for their success in history, it is a major reason they reigned as the supreme power on the Eurasian continent for over 5 centuries unchallenged.

The fact that the Ottoman Empire lost a war isn’t new, the Ottomans lost many wars but they won far more. But the fact that you believe the Ottomans would’ve lost in any realistic situation when it came to full on military clashes is ignorant, the only way a country like Rumania would be able to handle the military might of the Ottomans is through tactics and excellent leadership, your morale would be low, your people would’ve been scared shitless at the sight of a well-equipped Ottoman army and on top of that your army would be unable to have competed with the skill level or equipment quality of the Ottomans, the best you would’ve had was militia.

However, that is not to say it shouldn’t have happened in the RP, it makes for an interesting story and I will find it an interesting challenge to deal with and I know it would’ve been possible but the entire advantage of the Rumanian forces would’ve been one thing, asymmetrical warfare, tactics that allowed the United States to break the grip of Great Britain because they could attack and then disperse and disappear without being caught, not your so called national pride or superior equipment or training.

I am more than willing to give de facto control of Lesbos to the French, it would increase the power projection of an ally, allow a location to station allied forces and serve as a training ground and trade hub between our two nations. However port authorities will still have authority on the island, it prevents the smuggling of opiates and other substances without government tax/approval. Plus it will prevent the militarization of rebel factions.
