Dragon Age Roleplay: Thedas Wars (OOC, Newcomers Welcome!)

Postby Zemkal » Mon Jan 12, 2015 9:29 pm

Hello, I'm Zemkal. It's been a while, but you may know me from my previous work maintaining and guiding The Elder Scrolls RP (http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic ... 1&t=154354) and it's successor (http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic ... 1&t=185774). In both those series I set out to create a world outside the TES official timeline for writers to create characters that would find great adventure and world-changing events over the course of the game, and from there choose how they would approach each subject, or even if they cared in the least.

The idea of the roleplay was fairly simple. This is a broad world, these are the events that threaten it. Do with that what you will.

And now, I'd like to bring that idea to Dragon Age.

The basic plot would play off of the end of Dragon Age 2 and arc into it's own story, based off the dangers presented in Dragon Age: Inquisition but with a distinct feel all it's own, with different subplots and absent the anchor's early inclusion. Our characters would be the pillars of creating change in Thedas, not one person. Where this will lead will depend on where the mage and temlar war lies and the dangers and respective changes you and your other players make upon the world.

Where do you begin? Anywhere you want. There are various writings on places outside the Free Marches, Fereldan, and Orlais beyond what the games have presented (heres a hub link if you want to take a look and don't want to go back through your various game codexes: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Thedas), and just like in the TES roleplay, you can build the world through RP off of these explanations. Do you want to be a Qunari loyal to the Qun in Par Vollen? Go for it! How about a Tevinter Mage Nobleman with evil intents? Go for it! You create the character you want to be in this world and allow that to be your guide through the events forthcoming.

I'll be playing my own character, along with writing scrolls addressed to Seeker Cassandra to describe large events happening across Thedas. These will be your clue-ins as to whats going on in the world around you. Remember, you can try and get involved in helping early, completely ignore it all and chase your own goals, or complicate things early however you wish, as long as you stay within the rules!

My hope is that this meets as much success as my former RPs, so you can expect my full attention on this project. Let's get rolling!

Rules:
1. NO GODMODDING: This is obvious. It also works on the trust system. No, you cannot be the King of Fereldan or the leader of the Wardens. If you want a role such as this, talk with the OP.
2. NO BREACH MAGIC: We're starting the game immediately after the events of the chantry's destruction and just as the mage and templar wars begin. Breach and Breach Magic aspects will play in, eventually, but it will likely be a controlled plot element, similar to how dragon shouting was banned in my TES RPs.
3. WORLD HISTORY AND PRE-ESTABLISHED CHARACTERS: The Grey Warden's race and gender, as well as Hawkes gender. This is so we can all put a bit of shade upon our own interpretations of what happened. The most important part is that we have a clear king in Fereldan, and for agruments sake, we will say that is both Anora and Alistar. PLEASE LET ME KNOW AHEAD OF TIME BEFORE HAVING ANY CHARACTERS MEET WITH PRE-ESTABLISHED PARTY CHARACTERS FROM ANY OF THE THREE GAMES.
3. HAVE FUN!: Most important rule. Remember it, as it really should be the goal here.

Here is your application. Please catch up before jumping in.

Nation Name: Zemkal
Name: Utue
Race: Qunari Tal-Vasoth
Gender: Male
Class: Warrior (Two-Handed Weapons)
Starting Location Just off the shores of Kirkwall
Bio: Formerly known as Karasten in his role within the Qun as an Infantry Commander, Utue was amongst the Qunari dispatched to Kirkwall during the issues in the Free Marches. A loyal commander who had already spent twenty years of his life as a loyal abidant member of the Qun, it was those several years in Kirkwall that brought about his questioning of his entire livelyhood, specifically a patrol mission in the free marches where he would find himself dealing with a group of Tal-Visoth from a previous Arishok's searches in the relatively unmitigated area. The Qunari that had escaped had banded together and formed a community where the children knew their mothers and fathers and the neighbors all had strange, single-noun names that made them unique from their jobs. This was heresy, and thus they were ordered to kill them, one by one. And so he did, but amongst the chaos he found a young hornless Qunari of about three scared and lost amongst the wreckage, and, in the chaos, he aided that one child of the manythat died that day out of the area before he could be noticed. While his men never realized, it was this event that festered in Karasten's gullet over the next year and, upon the day they were ordered to take Kirkwall, he saw the fear in the eyes of the Alienage he'd been sent to deal with, and children no different than the hornless child. In that moment he turned upon his own army to save them, and in return the alienage hid him. Over the next few years he slowly went from that thing they hid in the village called Tal-Vasoth to something more noteworthy, an actual hidden secret and, eventually, member of the community. He grew close to many in the village, especially an old woman who had been imprisoned for theivory in her early years while on a mission for medical supplies for a member of her Dalish Elf clan. she spent twenty years in the prisons because of it, and eventually settled into the Alienage. It was she that gave him the Elven name Utue, or Choice in Elvish. Utue clung to this name and this ideal, of choice, until chaos befell Kirkwall and his safety was no longer guaranteed. To avoid the Elves in the Alianage coming under pressure do to his presence, he snuck out of the city and caused enough of a ruckus to make the guard aware he was outside, leaving a trail of misdirection amongst those that had hidden him so the guards would believe he had done wrong and that they hadn't sheltered him. Thus, he became a mercenary.
RP Experience: See Above.

Looks good! Just try to keep it past tense and spellcheck and punctuation a bit and you'll make a terrific addition to the group.

Sounds good! And it's good to be back, thanks so much! Honestly this idea isn't far from our TES work but it gives me a chance to do something similar, yet all together different, and that's why we're here. I'm incredibly excited about getting this moving and seeing what community springs from it, while building something new and different with other peoples imaginations combined with my own.

Nation Name: Aeuria
Name: Tanon
Race: Elf
Gender: Male
Class: Mage, Dalish
Bio: Born to an unknown clan of the Dalish, Tanon showed magical capabilities at a young age and as such was raised as his clan's First. Maturing in the wilderness of Orlais, Tanon spent the majority of his youth by his Keeper's side, learning and studying. Saddened and disgusted by how far elven-kind had fallen, Tanon instead turned his focus from his study of Elven lore and history to current world events, such as the worsening situation in Kirkwall. While his clan roamed Orlais, Tanon secretly sneaked into numerous Orlesian galas and festivals, disguising himself as a servant. He found the Orlesian nobility to be highly fascinating, except their distaste for the Dalish however. Inspired by the opulent halls and gardens of Orlais, Tanon swore he would one day possess such wealth and power. Unfortunately, he sneaked away one too many times and was discovered by his clan's carpenter. Forbidden to leave their encampment by the Keeper, Tanon soon longed for the halls of the nobility while stuck, under guard, in a forest. During the mage rebellion, his clan was approached first by a large group of rebel mages looking for aid, who were turned away, and then by a larger group of Templars who accused the clan of harboring apostates. Needless to say, fighting broke out and Tanon took advantage of the scenario to escape the camp and his clan, leaving to take advantage of political and societal instability furthered by the Breach. Armed with potent arcane abilities, an understanding of Orlesian culture and politics, and a silver tongue, Tanon hungers for power, wealth, and the betterment of all Elven kind.

Absolutely accepted, excellent bio. A few notes though, we're starting our alternate history RP during the civil war and the breach has not yet been opened, that dastardly plan is still in the works by Corypheas. We did this so we could both have the world in a stable spot where ther land hasn't been hugely altered, and so that we could tell a story where all of our characters can make broad changes and shape the world around them. So, all you have to do is drop the breach part and you're good to go!

Also, I think I'll get the IC started when we have five people, myself not included. So, hopefully soon!

I don't see a problem with that. As long as it's small for the start of the game I'm happy to see a Mercenary leader and his band. Go for it, man.

Also, I didn't think of this until now, I'm adding a starting location to the sign-up forum, just so we know where everyone is at start.

Nation Name: Asyir
Name: Belgrim Stonehanmer
Race: Dwarf
Gender: Male
Class: Warrior, Berserker
Starting Area: Denerim, Ferelden
Bio: Belgrim was born to a warrior caste family called the "Stonehammer's" in Orzammar sometime within the year 9:1 Dragon. His upbringing was rather harsh, as his father Flint Stonehammer, was a "washed up" wastrel whom happened to be fortunate to be born within the warrior caste. Flint was known for his drunken rages, and commonly would beat Belgrim's mother after returning from a night of drunkenness and debauchery. Flint was eventually forced into the Legion of the Dead after committing murder during a drunken argument with a fellow warrior. Flint was believed to be slain in battle by the year 9:11 Dragon, when Belgrim was ten years of age.

Life improved slightly after Flint was sent into the Deep Roads. Belgrim's older brother, a competent and promising warrior by the name of Bergòst, took over as head of the family soon after. Bergòst soon married a beautiful dwarf from a respectable warrior caste family. Bergòst had Belgrim begin combat training when the latter was twelve years of age. Belgrim took great interest in his training, and became enthralled with the concepts of battle. When Belgrim was fifteen years of age, Bergòst set about to find him a suitable spouse from among the warrior caste. However, in the year 9:18 Dragon, when Belgrim was seventeen years of age, Bergòst was ambushed by a group of casteless thugs. Belgrim later discovered that Bergòst had owed the Carta substantial amounts of money, and had refused to pay. With Bergòst dead, his young son Belfàst became the de Facto head of house. He was only five years of age. Belgrim was given temporary leadership of house Stonehammer however, at least until Belfàst came of an older age.

Belgrim was constantly visited by the Carta, whom demanded exuberant amounts of coin, that Belgrim knew his house never would possess. Eventually, he payed some of the debt of, and the Carta softened it's demands. Belgrim proved he was not only strong in battle, but in mind. He entered the provings for Prince Trian Aeducan's appointment as a commander in 9:24 Dragon, at twenty three years of age. He placed fifth, but was still selected by Trian for a Deep Roads scouting. Following Trian, Belgrim would enter the Deep Roads in 9:25 Dragon, and would taste real battle for the first time. During the weeks he remained in Trian's company, he fought Genlocks, Hurlocks, and Deep stalkers. His battle skills became honed by his time spent in the Deep Roads.

Eventually he would return, with the praise of Prince Trian. Under the steady hand of Belgrim, the Stonehammer family prospered, and even the Carta remained away from sight. Belgrim eventually married and sired three sons by 9:29 Dragon. When King Endrin Aeducan's second son was appointed as a commander, Belgrim was chosen to accompany Trian into the Deep Roads. Trian decided to place Belgrim by Endrin's side instead of his own, at the request of Endrin himself. Belgrim was within the company at the crossroads where Trian was slain, allegedly by his younger brother. Bhelan placed the blame upon his older brother, and the older Aeducan was cast off into the Deep Roads. Belgrim was grieved by the loss of his friend Trian, but was unsure whether or not he was killed by his outcast brother.

When the Dwarves of Orzammar answered the call from the Grey Wardens in 9:31 Dragon, Belgrim led a small host of dwarves in the vanguard at Denerim. Belgrim's force found itself surrounded within the Palace District, and nearly suffered annihilation. By luck, at the exact moment the darkspawn forces surged forth, the Hero of Ferelden slew the Archdemon, causing the darkspawn to rout. For his gallantry, he and his surviving force were offered honors by Orzammar, and King Alistair.

Belgrim returned back to Orzammar in 9:32 Dragon, but found that Belfàst had taken control of the Stonehammer's. Belfàst considered his uncle as a threat, and treated him as such. Belgrim convinced his wife to leave Orzammar for good, which would allow Belfàst to remain in power unopposed. Belgrim asked the dwarves that served alongside him to follow him to the surface. Many did, and they took their families with them. Belgrim founded the Silver Company in 9:33 Dragon, a mercenary company of fifteen dwarven soldiers. He resides in Denerim with his company, hoping to find a hefty contract to expand his company.

Absolutely impressive bio you have there my friend, and I get the feeling our characters may meet, what with mine looking for mercenary groups. I'm also glad to see you have experience in this specific 'verse. Accepted, and welcome!

And you can put them on hiatus for various reasons - people move away, go to university, get married, get a job, have kids, other unimportant stuff that gets in the way - and still come back to them at any point in the future, and the gameplay will be just as good as you remember it. It won't feel outdated."

Thank you! That bio took a while to write. Glad to see it blossomed. A Qunari warrior with a bunch of dwarven berserkers? Hop right in!

Can't wait for this to start. I'm intrigued already.

A Tal-Vashoth who's trying to find a sense of self would likely find a home with whoever offered him a place to pick up the blade again for a decent reason, so I see it as a high possibility since he's heading South anyway!

I'm very much amped to get us going. We've got four of us, including me, so I'm thinking two more and we'll get the IC up then! I have it written out, mostly.

Oh, my interest. It's piqued. There aren't enough DA RPs around here.

What should I play? Dalish hunter/first? Or a city elf turned something cool? Whatever I be, it'll likely be Elvhen.
Above even The Boss
Feel free to contact me about any fantasy, sci-fi, or otherwise futuristic RPs, especially those involving aliens or other non-humans, especially if it is an original universe/idea. I also enjoy Mass Effect, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and many other things that transit to roleplays.

I love me elves, so expect a variation of them.

Or maybe an Orlesian Seeker....

Damn, I wish it made sense for an Elf to be a Seeker.

Well, he'll be in good company. For now the band is a merry bunch of loyal dwarves. I take it his destination is Denerim then?
