Rickard Hollowell, House of Hollowell, Free Hold of Marosia

Rickard Hollowell moved along the beautiful stone streets with grace and dignity, being the son of a rich and powerful plutocrat, Edwin Hollowell, no one dared touch Rickard unless they wished to find themselves dead or tortured in the dungeons of the Hollowell estate, which was more of a palace really. Rickard disregarded all around him, focusing simply on his goal, finding the man he was looking for, Lawrence, a bastard mercenary leader who Rickard had become friends with over the past few years.

Five years ago when Rickard and Lawrence met at a pub in the Freehold Docks, they immediately saw the potential in each other and liked each other immensely from the start. Rickard, knowing that Lawrence was a rather successful mercenary(and assassin), he sometimes contracted his new found friend to eliminate rivals by robbing their supply trains, attacking the farms and mines where they purchased their goods from until the point where the rivals of Rickard's father went out of business completely.

Rickard's friendship to Lawrence had completely elevated him from 3rd born son, who likely had no future, to the scion of the House of Hollowell, the most likely heir to the estate and the most intelligent, atleast in his father's eyes, of all of the Hollowell children. Rickard intended to repay Lawrence in the future, maybe by making him a member of the aristocratic plutocracy that dominated the city since its conception?

Rickard finally reached the mercenary compound near the docks of the city where his friend resided, the building was large and made of stone with an iron door that could only be opened from the inside to help defend the mercenaries if the City-State was invaded. The gate opened swiftly with a clanking sound as Rickard neared the gate, and he waved at some of the mercenaries residing within his view, having grown friendly with him over the past half decade.

Rickard moved around the compound looking for Lawrence, after a good 20 minutes he finally saw him. Lawrence was sparring with one of his new recruits with wooden swords, and it was obvious the other man had no idea what to do. The man lunged at Lawrence, who side stepped the attack and swiftly hit him with the wooden sword on his neck, the attack would've effectively cut his neck open and crushed his windpipe if it was an actual sword.

"Lawrence," Rickard said approaching with a smile on his face towards his tall, muscular friend, Lawrence looked back at him grinned at him then ducked down to avoid the sword coming at him before hitting the trainee's knees knocking him to the ground.

"Enough for the day, my friend," Lawrence said in his deep, commanding voice, a voice that had caused many in the past to rethink their actions against Lawrence and his mercenaries, the authority of this man's voice was so great that it could stop sieges and could make armies surrender.

"How are you doing my friend?"Rickard said as he neared Lawrence, grabbing each others forearms as they got close to each other.

"Well, how are things?"

"Decent, however I have come to offer you another contract from the plutocrats in the Freehold Senate. A bunch of pigs I will tell you now, I do not agree with what they ask me to contract you with, however I brought it to you because I'd rather you have the wealth that comes with it than any other person I know...

"What do they ask of me, Rickard?"

Rickard sighed, "They want you to begin raiding the villages to the north and taking the civilians there as slave to be sold on the market, but they reward is enormous, enough money to elevate you to the position of a plutocrat in the city's government."

"Hmm... If this is what I am asked, then it is what I will do," Lawrence said with his business like voice, knowing it would be unwise to refuse the plutocrats unless he wanted no more contracts in the future.

"Excuse me I have to begin readying the men for the march north, I will see you when I get back, my friend." Lawrence grasped Rickard's forearm and walked off towards the armory, calling of the men to follow him.

Rickard headed back out of the compound, back to his family's estate to speak to his father and to ensure that his friend would get the reward he truly deserved.


Captain Romunas Dramatica, First Squadron, Western end of the Great Sea

Romunas looked over the waters, his sharp eagle like eyes scanning for any vessels, particularly pirate vessels. The 5 Liburnians under his command and his skillful team of officers would ensure that the squadron would be able to take down entire fleets of pirate ships or, hell, even polyremes and triremes due to their superior speed and mobility.

As Romunas was scanning the waters, he caught sight of a sail rising up from the waters... Now who would that be? He wondered as the ship continued its head long approach at Romunas's vessel.

Then, it struck him, as 4 more ships with the same exact sail rose up into view, it became entirely obvious to Romunas what was happening. 5 Triremes, armed for heavy combat coming directly at his force, it was time for him to hope into action. Romunas quickly had messages sent to his ships... Preparing for a quick surround.

Using mirrors, Romunas was able to warn the other ships in his squadron of what was going on, and ordered them to surround the pirates and begin ramming operations to sink the ships, using the superior rostrums on the ships before swiftly pulling away and watching the ships sink.

As the ships neared Romunas, archers on board loosed flaming arrows into the sails of the ships, catching them on fire. The lack of a sail would make the enemy ships nearly completely immobile and the use of Liburnian ships which made use of a rostrum ram and the ships protection from missiles. With the burning of the sails, Romunas had his squadron ram the enemy ships and let the mercenary marines that they have brought with them take the ship, they were instructed to take the ships and their loot back to the Freehold to be given over to the government.

Romunas would certainly be rewarded for his services to the Freehold.
