Why not steal or gain the support of rebel Alliance who want to fight back against the Batarians and the Asari? Like a sort of Mass Effect Red Dawn?

I am aware of that. I'm just saying that Cerberus knows how to keep secrets

Illium is busy making friends outside of Citadel space, because they are not a part of the Council and would rather keep it that way. At this point, most people know about the Collectors. They have been caught in the act of raiding planets a few times at this point and a few people know where they are coming from, thus are working to find a way to defeat them.
I already posted regarding this awkward animosity towards the Asari, a race generally liked by all. The closest anyone has come to hating Asari should be the Turians, who were denied by Illium passage through to the Terminus Systems where their colonies were being attacked by pirates.

If I were to contact Illium posing as a Mercenary Group, would I be able to get information on the Collectors?
