Its not completely unreal. Mussolini OTL hated being the 'underling' of the Germans, which is why he made a bunch of rash decisions like invading Greece, Egypt, etc. to prove that he was a good military leader and could conquer nations like Hitler did. Mussolini didn't also particularly like Hitler, and he wanted to prove that he didn't need their help to do stuff. The Axis powers barely cooperated together, which is the part of the reason they lost.

I can at least agree with this. Because of Italy's invasion of Greece, and the Yugoslavian coup after the country joined the Axis, Hitler didn't want to have enemies threatening his Southern flank when he was going to invade Russia, so he sent troops. He wouldnt have not done anything
