I hadn't considered a character with that kind of background, and it works well. It's not different in a bad way.

In short, what ever is sensible. Limitations are self imposed. On their own magicians should not be able to teleport buildings, cause natural disasters, or to instantly kill.

Speaking to the dead, yes. Though such would require something akin to a saiance or ritual involving personal possessions of the deceased.

Raising of the dead into a true living state, no.

Animation of a dead form that continues to decay (Zombiefication), yes.... though it'd be unlikely that such could dig it's self out of a grave. Skeletons would have to be prepared with bindings to hold it together. It might be a strange art, but permissible.
