History: The history of the Jewish excursions into the Americas began with the Frankfurt Company. Founded by westwards-looking Radhanites, it used the ever-loosening grip of the church on the Jewry to trade all around Europe, with fellow guilds and organisations all about, often centred in the concentrated Jewish communities many had been driven to. Ever more wealthy, but always having to put checks on itself lest the Christians grow envious or suspicious, it looked for an outlet.

It was during a period of its prosperity, having adapted well to the post-Constantinople fall situation of reduced trade with the east, that it heard of the New World. Many European countries began making incursions and exploring parts, and by the 16th century, the company had gotten ample information. Partnering with coastal communities such as the Brussels Quarter, a large but declining population of Jews, the Hamburg Company, a sister branch and even small isolated groups in Spain, looking for any way to get out, it scraped together enough capital to mount an expedition of its own, reaching the Caribbean and making a fortune in trade goods before returning home.

Thus, the association between the Jewish "usurers" of Europe and its surrounds and the New World began, trading expeditions increasing. With few roots to look back to, indeed, the Jewish were once again in a unique situation as they had been as intermediaries between the Islamic and Christian world in the medieval ages, or as they had been in the Christian world as moneylenders before the loosening of the rules. Burgeoning associations of Jews revolving around the quarters they were granted in a few generous port cities gained power and wealth.

This, of course, though, was at the expense of the locals and the state, and despite the Pope happy that the Jews had been reined in and monitored so successfully, their profits were not appreciated. Discrimination often grew, and as the number of communities grew fewer in a Europe finding less and less space both for foreigners and for townsfolk alike, a solution was sought.

Finally, as the many merchant bases in the Americas run by these "landless" travellers developed but even then were often pushed out by national colonisation, a meeting was held in Antwerp, under the auspices of the strongest companies, often from the low countries and other western European areas, accessible to the sea but not always accommodating, and the decision was made to begin creating permanent colonies, instead of travelling back and forth. Henceforth, the Jews, with Papal approval, would wholesale relocate to the Americas. Both economically and culturally, it seemed, it made sense.

The first ship, however, foundered and sank, scarcely a trace of its wreckage finding its way into the Caribbean. Sobered by this, a greater fleet and more preparations, as well as a whole lot of bureaucratic dithering went on before the second set off, tracing a calmer route to the as-of-yet unclaimed Pampas. There, with the Pope's authority, they claimed an area of land among a magnificent river, and set to work building the city that the locals, some say in mock, termed New Jerusalem.

Disease, isolation and other such issues were the colonists' enemies in the early days, and without a dedicated national entity to back them, things were often unsure. People glad to see the companies move out or at least see Jews getting on ships to leave forever made sure that supplies kept flowing, courtesy of money and investment though, and it was able to make it through the first bumpy few years. The area, fortuitously fertile and the town planned by some of the best, quickly grew. Though a cash crop economy that had been envisioned was impossible due simply to what would grow and what wouldn't, the immigrants, all having moved willingly into a cultural environment more friendly than they had ever encountered, prospered anyway. Fish and grain were the backbone of a soon booming subsistence agricultural sector, and unlike the feudalistic strip-farming dominant in Europe, it was managed in commune-like plantations, kibbutzim, and slaveless. Expansion into nearby areas went quickly, and collision with the natives was relatively minimal, interestingly.

Even as the New Israel Corporation formed, in charge of the venture and based in New Jerusalem, the companies, many of which were drawn to this city, kept functioning in the Old World. With a more stable reserve location and a better way to remove themselves should tensions flare up, they did even better, the earliest corporations finding themselves competing with these ones. Despite further tension, profit only increased, if only due to more objective business and even a better workforce to draw from, with an educated, culturally unified group in the colony. The corporation expanded as well, absorbing many companies, all the while drawing more Jews to its base, now a major financial and banking centre as well as a place of fame; the gateway into the Americas for many, even if its actual surrounds were small.

Finally, in the most recent stage of its history, national approaches in the Pampas area as well as more publicised military encounters with natives caused the corporation to successfully seek the Holy See's blessing in declaring itself a state, the Republic of New Israel, and forming a government from the corporation, its assets in Europe subsidiaries, albeit via a poorly understood relationship. Management was transferred and mixed into the civil side of things, and a new, stronger entity for managing the surprisingly well-managed metropolis emerged. This unlikely merchants' base metamorphosed, under mild pressure from those who had more legitimacy over land, into a nation, and not only that, but a well-built, prospering, financially colossal one, and full to the brim with the followers of Judaism.
