Here's a map of the world in 1700.

It's a little more blobby than my map, but they are not too dissimilar. I forgot how much further they could expand into the Peru-Bolivia area so that area on my map will be a little smaller than it was historically.

I mean, inland Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Louisiana, California, Great Lakes, all of those seem to be missing, and all of them on the 1700 world map.
An AH with less colonisation wouldn't be bad though.

Colonies map take two.

South/Central America a lot more similar to the actual world map for 1700, but there is still less than their actually was.

Also in regards to the Great Lakes and what not, I think one reason they are left well not colonized yet is players intend to RP colonizing them.

Well, fuck. There goes California.

I guess it's back to Genoa then. *sigh*

How unrealistic is it for me to take Sicilian ports for trade domination between east and west Mediterranean?

Considering we had a player apply for Sicily a while back, who Val might have even given Naples. He applied and talked about things with Val and I for a bit, but that was the last I heard of him.

To be frank, I suspect there isn't even much to dominate in the Mediterranean. :P Italy is splintered, and much under the influence of Austria which is decidedly land-based and Germany-facing, north Africa poor, probably, Romania sitting happy with a monopoly on the Black Sea's gates and not being a great trading power anyway, and Occitania the only ones left, except that they're colonial too and have the land power to easily overpower Genoa.
tl;dr it seems the Romans and maybe the Austrians are the only ones Genoa can profit much by competing in trade

Well, being Mediterranean, I suspect you'll find it pretty hard.

Yes.

And Allen, it'll be hard, but Spain is no doubt an ally, and I've got territories beyond the Mediterranean.

And how do you know Spain is an ally? Have you spoken to Lunas about it at all? Historically, no one gives a shit if Spain and Genoa were allies or whatever, as this is AH. For all you know he wants to eat parts of you just like everyone else you border.

Genoa also colonized Cafa, the Aegean islands, Corsica, and random little cities they held from other nations. They were pretty good at it, but that is small scale. It's time to find things to trade with in Africa and Asia.

And also not done in the same way as Atlantic colonisation would be. If you've a good Mediterranean (or Baltic, or any other large inland sea) navy, your blue sea fleet is likely to be shit, and vice versa.

Which is what I am working on. It'll take a few years to get anything major dine, but until then I'll be occupied with rolling in still somewhat relevant trade route dough.

What do you mean? Do you plan to focus on the Atlantic or the Mediterranean?
